Nigeria produces over 60 percent of global yam output with over 60 varieties of the tuber fondly called ‘the king of crops’. But until June 2017, most of the yam was for domestic consumption with a great percentage of it going to waste. Nigeria’s inaugural yam export was not without hitches but for the critical players, it was a learning curve. In this third instalment on yam export, Farmers Market visits critical players especially farmers in Benue State.
