  • Just making a key for Mr Smallgoods who doesn't have a key for this Lockwood vintage 234. I have two to do so in this one i'll impression and cut the depths via code cuts. The other 234 will be done ol' skool by using an impressioning file Swiss No 2.

    That was awesome! Very interesting ! Love the oldscool locksmithing! Thanks for taking us along, and thanks for the inspiration, I gotta try my hand at impressioning one of these days.. once I find the right lock :P It was cool to see the marks and think what positions I would have cut, then seing what you cut, lol I don't think I would have gotten it open, lol I have to say, its much easier to see marks after filing than after cutting on the machine..

      Thanks Rookie. Yeah, TR is spot on. The theory is simplistic but the practical is a journey of trial and error. If you can, source brass blanks Rook. They are much more forgiving than the nickle/silver. You will read the marks much better. Have a good one and i have no doubt of your abilities to achieve anything:-)

    Wow ... great impressioning video!
    I didn’t have any doubts about your lock skills, but didn’t know your video skills were that good! One of the very few impressioning videos where I could actually see the marks clearly👍🏻
    It looks like you were using as flat bottomed file there ... really allowed the marks to show up! Would’ve love to see one file session to see the file and your filing technique.
    I thought that when pin 3 kept showing that something was wrong and you were going to end with a Fail ... but only briefly as I kept saying ... this is bloody Paul S ... there’s no way it’s ending in a fail!!!
    Great job!! The 20+ minutes flew by like a three minute video!! Thanks!

    So what does the rest of that tool do and why are you reluctant to use it?

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks mate. I will do a demo on it. It can leave marks on the brass or chrome(depending on the application you are impressioning). You need to protect the face of the lock where the plunger meets the lock. A heavy tape or of that type can be used. It works in a different way. It actually leaves drag marks on the trailing edge of the cut. I will explain how it works when i impression a lock with it in the near future. Cheers:-)

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How are you mate. The tool i used wasn't designed for that type of impressioning. It is meant for dragging the key out of the keyway whilst under torque. I don't have the customary holding tool so i improvised with this tool. (Impression tool/gun) I don't have any backround on it but it is available from my supplier down under so i would imagine it would be available where you are located. They are a bit spicy in price but are a durable tool that will serve you well into the future. I will do an expo on the use of the tool soon to explain how it works and the principles of its success. I will let you know when i have a video up on it via replying again to your comment. Have a safe one:-)

    Great video Paul, I really appreciate your making and sharing this. After you did each round of cuts, did you file the cuts down at all to smooth the surface, or did you just put it back in the lot as-is?

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. I did give a few of the cuts a quick swipe now and again. I was cutting to code using s&d keys off a duplicator that was at my side for convenience. The duplicator tends to leave parallel marks which need to be smoothed over. Have a good one:-)
