      Every component on each side of the flip-flop circuit must match as close as possible. It is impossible to match each component 100%. This means that one transistor will conduct first. When that happens it also keeps the other transistor from conducting.

      No, but it is similar. This circuit has only one input. Also only one side is on at a time, both sides can never be on or off at the same time.

    I just found out, it is called holding circuit.
    However, it seems that all of them entail physical relay.
    I was on the thought process of it being made up of some sort of logic circuit.
    So far, it is either thyristor type or mechanical relay.
    Unless it can be made with some logic circuit too....? If not I understand the other two.

    When you close the switch why is only 1 capacitor charging ?. Wouldn't Both capacitors charge together as both have free paths for electron flow with this configuration ?

    One thing that has been bugging me for sometime is how a momentary push button works. I don't know how to word it properly on google so I have not been able to find the answer I am looking for.
    I understand how a temporary push button can turn on a system of thyristor/traic type of circuit. That I understand. As you only have to energize the base once, then current flows. However this is AC circuit.
    What type of set up can make it work on DC components.
    I am wondering if you can make a simple circuit that will show how a momentary switch ( a switch that you don't push again to shut the circuit off) will cause a DC circuit to turn on. Or is it that all them buttons we push to turn things on is actually happening at the AC circuit and gets transferred to the DC small voltage.... I still don't get it.

    Hello and thank you for this very informative video. I'm building a buck converter and would like to disable the pwm of the 555 timer if there is no load on the output. So far I don't know how to do this. Could a flip flop like this be used to detect a load and flip the power on or off somewhere else in the circuit? (or just pull a pin to ground if there's no load on the output). Thanks!

      The flip flop circuit does not detect. Why do you want the 555 timer turned off when there is no load?

      @@AllAmericanFiveRadio Although my product is not meant to be battery powered, I still want it shut off when there's nothing connected to its output. This is how many IC's work. They have some kind of a detect pin and are not running when the output is open. My load would be 1mA to 5A, so using a sense resistor also won't work, I think.

    Mine switches from one led to the other in a 1s interval, the button works but i dont know whats wrong with the 1s auto-switch

      Usually I get it does not work. I would try and increase the value of the 200 ohm resistor. Alet me know what happens.

    I am so confused why electric engineers call something with two transistors a “latch” despite the fact, that two transistors are clearly able to flip flop flip flop .

      If you use one side to operate a light, when you trigger the Flip Flop the light is ON, if you trigger the Flip Flop again the light is OFF. First it latched ON, and then it latched OFF. So you have a Latch for each scenario. Flip Flop may be free running also, if you had a light on each side, this would be like a railroad crossing sign.

      @ so a latch is a kind of flip flop? What is a Reset-Set flip-flop then? Synonyme.
      Latch could be an application, but a other flip-flops are named after their application: data flip flop holds data. A toggle flip-flop toggles. Maybe FPGA engineers and physicists have an incompatible language?

      Flip-flop circuits are one of the more challenging circuits to build. Each component on each side of the flip-flop needs to be matched as close as possible. I have built several flip-flop circuits and I automatically do this without thinking. I matched the beta of the transistors as close as possible, this is one of the very important matches. And of course I match each resistor on each side as close as possible. If each side is not matched, one side or the other will be dominant and the circuit will not work correctly. This is one circuit where you must match components. I hope this helps and good luck. Let me know when you get it working.
