Holy Cow! This channel is exactly what I've been searching for! I'm in my undergrad right now (I'm subbing for little bit of experience in the school systems) and your whole channel is so helpful/inspirational! Thank you!!!!
I'm so excited that I found your page! I have been going back in forth on the road I want to take with my communication degree. Like you I am 27, a wife and mommy! I am planning to transfer in the Spring and have been trying to figure out what is best for me (Public Relations or SLP)!! This video, as well as a few others, I've watched has been very helpful!! :)
I love this! My situation is almost identical to yours...older student, 2nd Bach, started a SLP distance grad school program in May and working full time as an SLP-Assistant. Excited for our future!!!
Checking out your TH-cam channel and I'm glad I stumbled across this video. This is Venita from the Lou books and I can't believe how much we have in common! We both live in FL, we're 27, married to our high school sweethearts, 2 dogs, and SLPs - CRAZY! Anyway, this video is awesome and I can't wait to see your other videos! :)
I recognized Lou in your profile picture RIGHT away! 😂💛 I had no idea we had so much in common! Maybe someday we can meet in real life and chat over coffee!
Congrats to you!! I am 27 decided to go back to school this year to finish my speech pathology undergrad as well at USF! Good luck in your journey! Your video is very helpful.Thank you!
Oh my goodness! I'm really excited I found your videos. I've been watching a few and I am happy that there are other people out there like me. I'm creative and love art and animals and I seriously could not find a career that I saw myself happy doing and then I found the SLP field. I will also be entering the SLP scene as an older married student and I wasn't sure how that would go but that is okay! I wanted to know more about the animal assisted therapy if you have a video on it. I've been looking at FSU's program because I also live in Florida but I wasn't sure about all the ins and outs of the program so I think I will go to JU. I'm looking forward to learning from your videos.
Wow! I'm so thankful to have found your channel. I've been searching for SLP's/grad students on TH-cam for a few years & there's literally a handful. My name is also Jessica 😆 & I just completed my second bachelors degree this May in Speech Pathology for the same exact reason as you. I'm planning to apply to grad school in January for next fall. I'm looking forward to watching your videos & learning what to expect in grad school & beyond!
Sounds like our journeys are very similar! Sending you all the good vibes as application season approaches - you've got this, girl! Thanks for watching 💛
Hey there! Just wanted to say that I loved your video and you and I also have a lot in common! I am also 27, got my first bachelors in theater and then went on to work as a teacher assistant at a special needs preschool and worked at an entertainment company dressing up for kids parties on the weekends and that's how I found the field of Speech Language Pathology and working with kids with communicative disorders! I have also lived in Florida my whole life...went to UF (Go Gators), and not married yet..but hopefully soon. I am actually with a guy I've known since high school as well although we were just friends until after college and started dating and def looking as though we will be getting married so thats pretty awesome :) haha! I love theater, kids, target, and all of those things that you mentioned in your video. ALSO yoga=so so therapeutic so amen to that. I am now at UCF in Orlando but in a full time program, somehow still managing to work part time as a behavior therapist but its hard because of the limited time i have with my schedule but anyways, good luck to you on your journey! :)
Wow it does sound like we have a ton in common! I have a friend who is currently in UCF's program, too! Thanks for following along with my TH-cam journey :) Here's to us being CCC-SLPs before we know it!
I'm a year or so younger than you and I already feel like I'm "too old" to be going back to school but discovering your channel is super encouraging!!! If you don't mind me asking, how did you complete a second bachelor's degree from 2015-2017? Did you do a post bacc program? Looking to that option as well.

Hey, Great video. How did you specifically become a SLPA?
It's different in every state :) I went to my state's Department of Health website and had to apply for licensure.
Thank you!
USF! Go Bulls! My alma mater!
Do SLPs only work in schools as teachers? So would I need to pass the mtels for a teacher as well??? Can someone explain how this works please
No, they can work in schools, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient centers, rehab centers, private clinics, home health...endless options. And the tests you take to work in a school depend on your state :)
The Social Speechie thank you so much
Do you happen. To know of any websites I could look at for more information on working in hospitals or such?
