    I really like your work! Could you recommend a starter set of oil paints for me? I mainly work with watercolor but love your collage with the oil colors. Very organic!

      Thank you, Carol! You might try Gamblin 1980 paint sets. They are student grade, which means that they have more filler and less pigment than artist grade, but they are economical and should be good to get you started.

    Beautiful Serena. Thank you! What do you recommend doing if the underpainting isn't dry yet?

      It's tricky to paint wet-on-wet. I apply the top layer very gently, using the squeegee on its side.

    Subbed! Are the colours to the right traditional oils or are they also cold wax with pigment or something other? thanks.

    • @serenartful
      @serenartful  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The colors are traditional oils mixed with cold wax in a 50-50 ratio.

    What about the fumes - do Ai need an exhaust sytem as with encaustic?

    • @serenartful
      @serenartful  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kate, No you don't need the same kind of exhaust system. If you are using a lot of solvents, you will want to take a break, and open a window or door.

    I have read that pieces of collage incorporated into an oil painting become dry and yellow over time, and start to lift. Is this your experience? Thanks. Rosie

    • @serenartful
      @serenartful  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not yet, Rosie. I suppose that could happen over a long time, though there are well known pieces incorporating collage that are fine. I imagine that cold wax adds strong protection compared with a piece done with thin oil alone.

      @@serenartful that's good news. I would hate to sell a painting only to have it come to pieces after a time! Thank you very much.

    How does this cold wax cure? Does it smudge

    • @serenartful
      @serenartful  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes some time, but oil and cold wax dry completely. It won't smudge after it dries.
