    A lot of people didn’t like it when Games Workshop changed the formula of their Shade paints and reduced the size of the pots. So that's why I'm always on the lookout for better and cheaper alternatives. The new Deep Shade washes from AK Interactive seemed promising, but when I put them on a model, the results were not what I was expecting at all! #akinteractive #deepshades #review

    The fact that they dry matte sold me. The GW washes drying glossy infuriates me to no end. Thanks for the review

    I would say GW's intention with washes is to fill the recesses, not tint the model, that's what contrast paints are for.

      Given the recent popularity of oil and enamel washes I imagine that one of Citadel's goals with their new shade paints was to reduce the overall tinting/staining effect they have.
      Personally sometimes I find it very useful and sometimes it's just a bit of a pain, so I don't think there's a single answer to the issue. I suppose with the new ones at least you can apply them twice to get a stronger tinting effect if you want it.

      @baboubortmandu 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Very true. I also like to work in smaller increments as it pertains to building up value, and their washes are great for that. Want it stronger? Slap a few more coats on there.
      Seraphim sepia in particular is great for building up the first layer of muzzle burn, and I like being able to have it heavier near the front and weaker at the back.

      Don't think so, in all their recent videos of painting, they still uses their washes to cover the whole model, also their new fórmula isn't very dark compared to the older ones, and you need darker colors to pin wash or panel lining.

      They lack consistency for that, even in this video you can see some act identical to AK deepshade and others are much thinner. As usual the optimal solution is still grabbing the best in each line if miney isn't a factor.

    Big fan of the AK deep shades, colour range is my only issue - I keep finding GW dries way too shiny for me, I only find I use them on metallics - also the deep shade medium works wonders if you want to get less tinting on the raised areas.

      Promoting their products caused their entire issue. People were very upset they demonstrated their rust medium with a holocaust diorama. The paint is fantastic though. Top top top tier.

    Those washes from AK are looking good. Pure Grime and Hazel Brown look like washes that can become mainstays in my toolbox. Blue Moon however is something I've been looking for. I like thinning down a grey-blue like Russ Grey for shading white and Blue Moon basically looks like that mix in a pot to me.
    I'm curious how they'll look over metallics. I don't mind the matting effect since I varnish my models anyway. Some metals can be very slick however, giving certain washes trouble sticking to them.

    Dear Stahly, I also bought and tried the deep shades and so far I really like them. But I found one interaction that was quite concerning. The invocation purple reactivated my xpress colors deep purple from vallejo. While I didn't observe that in the more matt or desaturated xpress color paints. Can you make a quick test on that?

    I prefer to thin down my AP Dark Tone, over applying it directly. Straight out of the pot it feels too "tacky" and stains more than I would like. Looking forward to what the Fanatic Range brings. I will def check out Pro Acryl's offerings and will continue to avoid Citadels "improved" formula for the time being. Not because I think they're trash, but the value is just not there.

    I think it makes more sense to go with new shades/tones when creating new paints. People are less likely to move over from brand A to brand B entirely as they tend to be heavily committed already. Plus people seem much more accepting these days of cherry picking paints from across ranges.

    Thank you Stahly. You have one of the best (if not very best) channels for product knowledge, reviews, and insights. May I have your thoughts on a preferred wash for primarily recess shading with minimal staining? My plan is to Prime a model in white, use a wash for recess shading, followed by painting with Contrast/Speed/Express paints. I can use Acrylic or Oil. My concern with "Oil Wash" is the need to varnish before applying the OilWash and varnish again before applying the "Contrast/Speed/Express" paint. Your thoughts/suggestions are welcomed.

    JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. This is the second time I hear of a paint company being controversial, what is it with this hobby.
    For those who though they'd rather skip the controversy, thinking it's some hysteria over a minor thing: Basically AK Interactive made advertisements portraying Nazi gas chambers as a pretty cool thing while aligning themselves with the Nazis. REALLY worth looking into whether you actually want to buy from them.

    • @Grendelnz
      @Grendelnz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "what is it with this hobby"? bunch of softcocks who cannot see context or nuance and want to cry about everything? AK did not "align themselves with Nazis" dont be hyperbolic. they made a marketing decision that was supposed to be edgy and backfired. thats it. calm down.

    • @PrzybyszzMatplanety
      @PrzybyszzMatplanety 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, going this route you'll end making your own paints. Corporations are divided between controversial and those who's controversies aren't publicly known, yet. GW attacked fans for supposed copyrights violations and is selling less for higher pricing, AK had issue with gas chambers and African genocides in their dioramas, GSW stole work of some painter without compensating and attacked some content creators over some copyright issue, just like that.
      Dig deep enough and you'll find something on ProAcryl, Vallejo or Scale75. If not - just wait a little longer. How many of them remains? How many remaining are even available to you (good luck buying ProAcryl or Reaper, for example, if you live in Europe).

    • @zhufortheimpaler4041
      @zhufortheimpaler4041 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No the problem is, that they made something that is basicly a product cataloge for their brand and that cataloge revolved around how cool you can paint stuff like sites of warcrimes, genocide etc with their products.
      They tried to appeal to the museal diorama "scene" but failed at it with a tacky and tasteless product.
