Cillian did not win a BAFTA because they have a preference for British actors as he is not British and in fact is the first Irish born actor to win the Leading Actor category at BAFTA.
I enjoyed the insightful discussion but I need to make one correction: Cillian is Irish not British and the bafta does not always have preference for that. Case in point is how Cillian did 6 seasons of Peaky Blinders w/c still is very much talked-about to this day yet he got nominated only once and won 0. His fans were actually worried that bafta may still not recognize him this year; good thing they finally did.
Thank you very much for the correction! I was actually the one to make the mistake, which is funny because I've corrected others in the past for that same mistake. Appreciate you spreading awareness about this topic, which is how the BAFTA's are an even more out-of-touch institution than the Academy.
Cillian is the 1st irish born bafta lead male actor winner, these people...
Cillian Murphy is Irish, not British
And the one called him Sillian at first!
I cannot believe that with all the interviews, award shows, and print articles, the hosts, interviewers, photographers insist he’s from England and on calling him Sillian. How embarrassing for them. Do you all live under a rock??
Saying that an actor won an award just because of his nationality without really knowing the actor's nationality😂
Pretty ironic considering Lilly Gladstone will win because of her race. 😂😂😂
@@cinemajunkie4176 absolutely this cause none of them can say she had the best performance up to now
Best Picture: Oppenheimer
Best Director: Christopher Nolan
Best Actor: Cillian Murphy
Best Actress: Lily Gladstone
Best Supporting Actor: Robert Downey Jr.
Cillian Murphy is not British and he doesn't like to be called British as well.. and he didn't win Bafta(and all the other awards) because he was British but because his performance as Oppenheimer is hands down one of the best ever put on screen.. he deserves to be crowned with an Oscar
Cillian 🤞🏻🥹
1:43: Oh Julie, I always love seeing you flash a smile on your face.
If they really want Lily to be in the front, they should have given her more screen time and let the story revolve around her.
when i saw rita moreno was announced as a presenter i was like oh shit america may actually take it .. would not be shocked in the slightest if rita moreno goes on stage, starts talking and as she countines it becomes obvious that america is taking home the oscar
I agree with your predictions for Oppenheimer.👍
Emma did a LOT of acting and I'm so into it. It was a balls to the wall performance.
Lily stunned me with just a look here and there and her screen presence moved and stayed with me.
At the end of the day, I'd be bummed out if Lily didn't get the Oscar but if Emma lost? Not so much.
Ugh I’m so so sick of supposed “experts” saying Cillian Murphy won BAFTA cause he’s British and yet he was the 1ST Irish born male actor to win Best Actor in the history of the BAFTAs.
And saying Cillian will only win the Oscar because Oppenheimer is a strong powerhouse and yet Emily Blunt won’t win against Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Oppenheimer probably won’t also win makeup or costumes or production design either.
Is it possible Cillian Murphy was just the best of the bunch this year amongst some truly impeccable actors? Let the man have his moment. Giamatti will be back & win another year.
Bottom line Julie's gorgeous thats why I'm here.
Upset is Emma ..
I hope Lily Gladstone wins the Oscar, I loved her in killers of the flower moon.
Hoping for some shock moments
Cillian Murphy is Irish and its awful that hes the first Irish actor to win a Bafta for lead actor, not Peter O Toole, not Richard Harris, not Colin Farrell etc etc same at Oscars - the awful anti Irish bias is evident in the Baftas and the British influenced Oscar voting pool. But they want to reward Brit film maestro Chris Nolan ( US resident, also has Irish passport!) and their racism would be too evident if they rewarded Chris Nolan without recognising the fulcrum upon which that behemoth of a movie turns - the exceptional Cillian Murphy. I was scandalised last year when the Irish movie Banshees of Inisheerin got 14 nominations and won NONE.
Some people might feel Oppenheimer is boring...
lily gladstone, while excellent should be in supporting category shes only in 25 percent of the film...totally unfair.. emma stone is unforgettable in poor things and should win.... the fact that lily is indigenous has nothing to do with winning the oscar.
Great hosts 👈😎👉
stop it......i did not kill him....she is gonna win..........the rest are predictable performance!
Not one movie that is nominated did I even want to see. 🤮
That's a shame. You missed some terrific films.
