What an interesting conversation with such a pleasant, 'down to earth' Professor. Murray was my introduction to the Myaskovsky Piano Sonatas, who clearly "loved the music when no-one seemed to play it". This was evident in his excellent, thoughtful CD notes as well as the actual performances. Needless to say, I'm delighted these recordings were covered in the interview as well as those of other Russian composers including Prokofiev, who, like Murray, I've always "adored".

I never knew Murray was so famous in the piano world, I, being a former student at Chetham's, just thought of him as a tutor, and a great one at that. if not a bit intimidating especially for the audition!
