Could you imagine? Two days after self titled released being here? Oh man what I’d have given. I was in a prison school in Virginia and my buddy Luke had the album art so for a year all I knew of them was that cover. Felt like I already knew them by the time I heard them.
i disagreethis was just pure chaos. Corey‘s voice kept giving out he sounded exhausted all the time. Iowas was organized chais and much more brutal
I saw this ozzfest in c-bus ohio.
Agreed. No cell phones waving around
@@briananderson7104 amen to that brother
Joey snare sound like if you hit a frying pan. It’s so pure and so good
Kkkkkkkk is really true bro
Or like cowbells from devilish Memphis music
It’s like if a keg had kids with the sound of a 50 cal hitting a bank vault. And then clown ducked that offspring with a baseball bat
Sounds like Lars' st. anger snare. Unironically good.
Terrible in fact :D

Imagine going to Ozzfest in 1999, never hearing of this little band from Iowa and you wander over this stage not expecting to meet the awaiting onslaught.
Did it, they blew the roof off the place in Phoenix 99. Them and Fear Factory were the reason that concert was one of the best I ever went to.
I was only 14 but not going to ozzfest 99 is STILL one of my biggest regrets. Never got to see pantera, missed a good sabbath reunion, and the beginning of slipknot. These guys came out SWINGING, like no other band before or since.
I had a similar experience in 1992. I went to see Megadeth and was curious why so many people were so excited to watch the support act. A band from Texas called "Pantera". And man, did they blow me away! After that Megadeth was almost boring.
Exactly what I did ……never been the saMe since (SIC)
Went to ozzfest 99 in st Louis and had no idea who they were. I’ll never forget seeing them walk off the bus in the parking lot at 11am as the opening act for the 2nd stage and just absolutely destroying everyone!
29:47 nobody gunna talk about this outro? The echoing mic, the scratches, and the sampling. It was so awesome and sinister at the same time
dats why sid and errybody together so legendary
19:39 Rare sighting of mick jumping
There’s a lot of old videos and he used to jump a lot back in the day
This was just 2 days after the release of their legendary debut album. JUST *2* FUCKING DAYS!!! This is music history right there. Thank you for sharing :)
And people already knew surfacing, amazin
@@guts9160 but as I rememember they were perfoming on 27th May🤔
this person filming sacrificed enjoying the show just so we all in the future get to enjoy this.
i saw a dude with a slipknot shirt at the start of the video, wanna bet how many went and got a shirt after this performance?
The hype about Slipknot was so huge even before they released ACTUAL music. I remember I had a promo Slipknot VHS that I got in 1999. Early 99. And it was only 47!seconds long and it was a mashup of them and their masks and showing them taking promo band pics. And it played some of their demo stuff over the footage and I have never seen that VHS again. Even on eBay after all these years! I was so stoked about them before they even released their album. And I was an 11 year old kid with no internet, only metal magazines, and they were my gateway to everything metal that made my life worth living.
i was 13 and my older brothers went to this ozzfest and couldnt stop talking about how insane slipknot was.. i went to the mall that following monday and me and my best friend stole that cd. i listened to it a hundred times that month. i still love slipknot and love that first cd. long live the masters of metal.
I would do the same
I was 21 and took my q3 year old brother, so glad we got to catch them 2nd stage, amazing.
Always glad when some millenial tries to put things into perspective 😂😂

Dude is it me or is there a lot of slipknot never before seen videos showing up on TH-cam lately ? Like this shit needs to be downloaded and saved before it gets deleted. Fuck its so good man
You're not alone There's a lot of old concerts footage surfacing
Edit: no pun Intended lol
I feel like a read a similar comment might’ve been yours and in the responses someone said something like a guy who had a bunch of ole footage of slipknot recently sold it? Or gave it to someone? Something to that affect and wah-lah we have been blessed to see these gems.
@@xvor_tex8577 releasing the debut concert footage 22 years later is a long time to wait and bleed...
why TF would it get deleted? yt is NOT the only platform to find vintage (the best time) slipknot
@@DanRustle copyright bullshit is really stringent on TH-cam these days. So videos like these do unfortunately get the snuff
Miss these days, people just having an amazing time, not worried about recording it for some social media clout
I wish it could’ve stayed like this. Where people actually go to concerts to connect with the artist and the music and the crowd around them. Now people just want to record and flaunt, fucking waste.

this comment killed me omfg
Lol
That 99 ozzfest tour was something else.
They came on 3rd, went so hard, they broke the stage on both sides of it. The show was delayed for awhile while they rushed to fix it.
When I saw them in st Louis they were the opening act, first band on the 2nd stage at 11am. People were still coming in the gates when they were on
@@toxicgavyt that means they weren't meant for small stages, they were made for sturdy big stages 😆

Damn two days after the debut's release and they're at ozzfest 😮😮😮 no wonder they blew UP after this
17:53 man, Corey's exhausted. Probably from screaming without any type of vocal warmup or technique. It seriously messes with your oxygen intake and can make you pass out for sure.
Plus the mask
@@lowbatt3235 Definitely!
Sometimes I do wish Corey would still scream like this but man if he screamed like this for his whole career we most likely wouldn't have slipknot or Corey as the vocalist since his voice would be completely fucked up
He went balls to the wall for 30 minutes straight, I was exhausted for him after the first song
@@honeyhatesme exactly

I recall being at a friend's house trying to make a band, and this album just came out, Bro there was nothing like it at the time. Literally it was a force of nature in metal
I remember buying it and being like, "whoa SHIT!!" lol...I had been a MASSIVE Pantera fan for YEARS and Iowa made Pantera seem flat out chipper. 🤣
Finally. I waited for this moment more than 15 years. I remember the only versión available was one with very low Quality (like an streamed versión) thank you si much for sharing with the fans. This is pure gold. Greetings from Santiago, chile.

hands down one of the best metal records of all time
The drums sound so fucking raw and amazing it's just incredible. Rip Joey jordinson phenomenal drummer 🙌
What a great day i just turned 21 i have slipknot blasting through the speakers of my 1996 firebird it doesn't get much better than that
I was at this show. I was 21 years old, lol.
I was 14. Slipknot was there for me since high school. #coreylegend #Joeyjordisonlegend
I think a lot of people forget how raw and visceral Slipknot were in their early years. They sound like they want to tear you in half.

Skipping out on watching Slipknot perform in 99 ozzfest was one of my most regretful decisions. I was at the mainstage watching whoever was performing instead. I bought their album the very next day and never forgave myself.
The fact you can't remember who you was watching instead says it all! Please tell me you got to see them live during this period though? maybe even the IOWA period? because that'll easily make up for it!
@@SovereignKing yeah 5 days later I looked thru some CDs at the music store, saw the Slipknot album and bought it. Felt total regret and saw them on tour a couple times during self titled and Iowa and then again during the 5.0 era
@@SovereignKing also I found a ozzfest 99 schedule. i wouldve been watching SOAD on the main stage and then chillin over there during slipknots set on the second stage.
@@LivingwithPerks Ahhh man, at least you got to see SOAD back then!
That's fantastic that you still saw them during that period though. I'm so jealous, I'd have loved to have seen Joey play live during that period.
@@SovereignKing Joey's kit was always amazing. Especially during IOWA. Seeing him play suspended with the kit spinning around on the pentagram was insane.
Joey and his energy will forever be my favorite thing ever. He loved what he did, and you can see that. He’s such an inspiration for anyone, no matter age, gender, race, sexuality, he is an inspired. Your missed by so many people King, I love you. RIP JOEY
I love how Craig is just chilled up with all the people on the side lol. This is the best performance of Self titled in my opinion. They wanted to make their mark with this performance!
Iike how the crowd dont get it at the start but when they see how good they are everybody get more and more crazy
I was fuck¡ng there! It was fuck¡ng awesome.
Rest In Peace, Joey. 🤘🏼
This crowd had no idea what to expect. They lit right up when those double kicks and palm riffs set in.
This gave me goosebumps.
The last show Jim uses that flame green Jackson. After the show the entire band signs it and it's given to his friend. Most likely a member of the Sleepy Clan.
Why don't you post no more slipknot videos?
what is "sleepy clan" ?
Sleepy clan were way early fans of the band
this band was my first introduction to metal around 5/6 years ago and corey ultimately has been my first and still is a big inspiration on me vocally. gonna to their first-ever show in my country in about 3 days, literally a dream come true type beat
It’s very fitting that the video starts with Nick Davis. He played so much Slipknot, and repeatedly talked about them on the Metal Shop at the time.
At 7:02 I couldn't understand why that person in the crowd was taking a backwards selfie until I realized that they weren't holding a smart phone. Nostalgia
Joey's snare tone is godly.
20:39 Joey’s snare more like timbale waited for this moment all his life
Beautiful set. True effort, dedication and physicality to push their music and have their message be heard. Truly timeless music. I'm watching it again and laughing to myself about how now, their stage set-up involves pyrotechnics, amazing lighting effects and hydraulics. But still, they have such passion for their craft and a message that needs to be heard.
I must've missed it. I don't see any of those 3 things you mentioned. Lighting, hydraulics, and pyrotechnics?????

Good luck following that show if you’re next.
Impossible.
I was there. They stole the fuck¡ng show. Everyone was talking about them. Fear Factory was the next band, they were headlining the second stage. They had great set too, but everyone throughout the festival was definitely talking about Slipknot.
Just getting a chance to see a great recording of Purity live from this era is pretty amazing! I went to see them when they came through touring for that first record, I was in grade 10 and it blew my friggen mind! They are at the top of their game here, I'd be sweating if I was one of the bands that had to follow this performance!
I still remember the day I first heard this album. I initally wrote them off as a gimmick with their image but as soon as I heard the opening track in local record store it all made sense and I was hooked for life!

I can remember Ozzfest at the Gorge amphitheatre in George Washington one of the best lineups ever for the Ozzfest with Slipknot that blew the doors off everything, Rob Zombie ,Slayer, Static-X, Primus, System of a Down, Black Sabbath with Ozzy of course, Godsmack, Deftones & awesome concert

Did he still likes scenario the scene? Anger Metallica album?
It is nice to see everyone actually watch the show back in the day and participate in rocking out when phones weren't distracting people from seeing history be made. These shows were the best. I fucking love the late 90s Slipknot.
