I'm New York based and I'd say the Complex list is based less on NYC and more just on sneakerheads specifically. I feel like GQ is scratching a little closer to the right idea. I do also like Complex having the AE1 leading the pack in GENERAL, regardless of colorway; having a model (not just a colorway) is a really good idea that maybe should be considered for more entries at large. I feel like GR models are really defining the conversation right now, perhaps more than ever. I live on the lower east side of Manhattan and I see incredibly fashionable people every day, even celebrities semi-frequently. 95% of the time, maybe more, when I see a "fashionable" person wearing sneakers, they are not wearing hype sneakers, or even collab sneakers. GR colorways of New Balance and ASICS are absolutely dominant in that conversation right now, as are brands like On Cloud Running, HOKA, and Salomon.
I don't think it's practical to try to make a "Top Ten List" into a journalistic summation of what's happening in sneakers at large, but I do think it's also worth acknowledging that shoes like the NB 1906 (even WITHOUT Action Bronson's name attached) or the ASICS Gel-NYC (even WITHOUT Hidden NY's name attached) are making waves in popular consciousness.
As far as my own nominations for SOTY, aside from shoes mentioned, I've got a few in mind-The Reebok NASA collab was excellent across the board, all three models were really thoughtful and complemented each other without any redundancy. I only bought one of the three NASA Reeboks but I'm debating dipping back in and grabbing the whole set. The BSTN Reebok Premier Road Ultra is also gorgeous, made zero waves but I think it's an outstanding colorway and design. CLOT x Adidas Superstars, as said another user, also in the running, and also the CLOT Adidas espadrilles. The Auralee x New Balance WRPD runner is the best-yet version of that shoe, it's a small subtle shift but making the "N" leather rather than fused material really completes the shoe. Lastly, the Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS Gel-Zientzia "Knicks" leaps to mind for me, Kiko is consistently up to some interesting things and I'm glad his partnership with ASICS has been so long-lasting.

The GQ list seems like their taking the most trendy popular shoes and looking for the hypest collab. If you take the collab out of it, those are the models people are wearing nowadays. Asics and Adidas are killing it on that front. The Complex list is a typical list catered to sneakerheads, not necessarily the fashion forward looks of today. This is coming from a person who travels to NY and Miami a lot.

Both lists are based on sneakers no one can buy, except for going to resell sites.
Imagine a list of movies that no one can see or a list of restaurants no one can enter.
Not sure where i go with this, lol

the Made in Italy sambas? I usually go with shoes with timeless design and good materials. Not hyped but the adidas Y-3 Country is very nice.

Idk, but imo the complex list sucks. All they do, is to throw some Jordan’s or Nikes and some (overhyped) collabs on the list.

I do not really get the hype behind the futura dunks. For me that shoe is not that wearable.

Agreed. If they massed released it, it would sit on shelves.
