I think I find cheaper gear more enjoyable to listen to, it’s usually less picky and like you say brings about an old school analogue sound (of you find the right kit)
I prefer my better systems but it’s only prob 20% of being an audiophile. The remaining 80% is just liking music on anything because music is king. I don’t think just because it doesn’t sound as good as best possible sound at budget, it’s not a good playback chain system

I would liked to have seen a sub out on these, I bet FIIO could make a stonking micro sub if they set their minds to it.

A direct ‘service’ if you got my joke. 😂….in all seriousness though, the volume control is set in the pre/streamer/dac and the rear knob only relates to gain for that, so it is rightly placed imo.
