Whether it's a Sustainiac, or Fernandes system, or something else, I love the sustainer systems for electric guitars. The give unique sounds and abilities that you can't typically get any other way. BUT the issue has always been finding a guitar with one of these installed. Now there's a company that will custom build one of these systems for any guitar! Veyz Sustainer. And it's not even expensive! Let's check this out.

I have a question: does the sustainer act like a normal humbucking pickup when the sustainer switch is off? Or are you losing a pickup position in the bargain?
It depends on your order, you can order just the sustainer or humbucker and sustainer or even single and sustainer

Nail polish has always been guitar touch up paint. I've taken a guitar to a beauty supply store before.
Car touch of paint works great also. Even has clear coat. If you can find the exact color it's impossible to see
Man, this Indonesian brand is a counterfeit of Sustainer and Sustainiac. They approached me as well. It shouldn’t be promoted, even if it sees to work well at first glance.
Also, like those kind of “brands” they create dozens of profiles on social medias to spam their products on groups and people who like Satriani of Vai. Of course, I’m at you disposal to give you further information. I’m easy to find on social medias. Cheers
I did buy from these guys and it was the worst experience I had in years, I almost felt scammed, they sent me a defective one at first then I had to pay for the return and it was expensive, after that i waited for couple of weeks because they didn't want to send me the new sustainer, and when it arrived it doesn't work as advertised, plus the customer service is so bad, and that without they're bad English,
Cool that there's another option for these. Their website is kind of wonky at least on Android and I couldn't find any pricing at all.
As to buying from Indonesia, it can be a little tricky sending money from the US, but a little patience is all it takes. Indonesia is full of very talented craftspeople in all kinds of fields. Thanks for sharing this product. 🙂

Yes, @@chronox2 when powered on it is a feedback loop and physically vibrates the strings. Connect the guitar as usual.

Follow factory diagrams. The diagrams they get me were a mess. I ultimately had to multimeter it and cross reference with a fender switch pin out.

Does it still require a giant control cavity? Or is it a little smaller than the sustainiac setup?
I've owned two Sustainiacs and two Sustainers. I currently am down to just a Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe, which is an amazing guitar. I let the other guitars go way too cheaply. To the people that bought them, you're welcome...but I digress. In my opinion, these pickups completely change the dynamics of your playing and allow for versatility and creativity you wouldn't otherwise have. Thank you, Max, for making this particular video. I've seen these Sustainers on ebay and will now be giving them a closer look.
PS-I saw someone driving in my 'hood a few days ago. He had long hair and looked like Danzig. ;)
Sustainiac and Fernandez Sustainers are the same exact product. These are knockoffs.

I was hyped to get one for years and it works even better than I hoped.

I have bad experience for the neck pickup tone from Veyz Sustainer.
Years ago I got a Kramer Baretta that has a sustainer. I got it from MusicYo back in the early 2000s for $400. My sustainer also has an "Intensity" knob for better mixing of the effect.
I also have one of these Baretta's, was not easy to get back then. Very easy to play Vai's "Whispering a Prayer" on these.
@@billburns2915 I bought a few of the Strikers from MusicYo. They were only around $180-$220 depending on pickup configuration and bridge setup. I always got the H-S-H with the Floyds. I had a nice Candy Apple Red and the Black & White Crackle. I still have my white one with the Red & Black "Splatter" paint. They all came with the EVH D-Tuna. I also bought a white Steinberger Spirit GU Deluxe for $230. Had I known MusicYo was going to shut down, I would have bought more of those and the Barettas w/sustainers. Prices for the Spirit GU series are insane these days. If you can even find one.

I have a Kramer V that’s looks similar to the Jackson in this video, only the headstock looks like a hockey stick, unfortunately. I got it from Musicyo for something like $300. Then I put KFK EMG’s in it.

I bought a Veyz Sustainer. It didn't work out of the box. Going around in circles trying to return/refund.
I'd strongly suggest you buy ANYTHING other than the Veyz brand. :(
unfortunately I bought one of the Veyz sustainer systems ages ago and despite asking 100 times for an accurate wiring diagram and despite ordering it specifically to order, I have still been unable to get the diagram not have i been able to get it to work. All the Veyz dealers give the same big talk about helping to fix the issue but not one has been able to provide me my very basic request... I need a wiring diagram to suit a PRS SE Tremonti, SD Custom in the bridge position, 3-way toggle switch and I also wanted to add intensity pot.

Do not buy the Veyz they're cheaply built and offer zero support, I made the mistake of ordering one after watching this video, I miraculously got mine to work on my own as they couldn't provide me a matching diagram, never heard back from support after trying for two weeks, stick to the real deal, only the Fernandez models! They're noiseless, sound better in all modes, USA made with better components, came with a proper diagram and arrived in 48 hours, it was a breeze to put in, they're worth the extra money if you want the best, although I got a refund and got to keep it for $50 it was not worth the troublesome installation, I was just dropping it into a Les Paul, it was all a such big hassle so let me spare you the trouble if you're considering any of the Veyz models...
Now you can blow on the string to create a harmonic to amaze people 😲
Hey, Max you are the proof about nothing is more important to practice to become a great guitarist. I remember I stopped being a guitar snob the day I discovered your channel and saw you playing awesome well on a guitar that most of the people at that time used to say is a crappy brand guitar. I am awaiting my HB Guitar Max to arrive and am trying to keep practicing to play better day by day.
The Fernandes Sustainer has been available in Fernandes guitars for decades. Can be ordered from Japan or a lot of them on Reverb.
WTF? Phil Collen, who signed with [Grover] Jackson around 1986 - and the late genius who had it 'all', Steven Maynard "The Riffmaster" Clark who signed with Gibson, Collen and his PC signature line has been around for well over a decade. Collen, who imo is an inferior guitarist to "Steamin" and Vivian NEVER uses pedals. Eddie, Tracii, so many guitarists use a shitload of pedals but the 'sustain' on Collen's guitars allows him, true with a minute help back stage as his guitars have it all. Don't know why you did not delve into Collen's rig, he arguably was one of the earliest guitarists to use sustaining on EVERY song.
Ummmm....standalone Fernandes sustainer packages have been available for many years now. I don't understand how this is something new that hasn't been available before?
Thanks for the video and pointer to this system. My Jackson PC-1 is my main guitar and I use the sustainer in it all the time. It also works as a neck pickup. So I am curious if their single coil option also works this way? Like others have noticed, their website has cool pictures, but not a lot of information. To those that have already ordered one, what is the process, just email them?

I bought a Kramer Sustainer in 1989. I still have it.........I still love it...........and the built in Sustainer, is just pure genius. It`s the best guitar I`ve ever played, and I`ve played them all.
I'm buying a J Custom in a few weeks. It has 2 humbuckers and a single coil. I'm going to change the the 2 humbuckers. Do you think the sustainiac would fit snuggly in that single coil space?
They are cheap junk Chinese copies. I’ve banned the dude trying to peddle these on FB for years, so sick to see this garbage continue.

I’ve seen this previously. Product looks fantastic, but their site is not very easy to navigate and has poor access to info on pricing, ordering or availability. Also doesn’t help that it’s in I’m guessing Tagalog, and Chrome can’t/won’t translate it.

Bought a hot rail one..
1. Wiring diagram was clearly wrong. He showed hot ending on jack sleeve. INSISTED it was correct. Told me not to follow a fender switch diagram. I listened, twice from scratch didn’t work. Got tired and fed up, and did it all myself per fender switch pin outs
2. Got it installed to where the pickups work. But have proven time and time again that the board is 100% fault. Guy leaves me on read now, EVEN THOUGH I even fuckin offered to pay for the replacement board.
Obviously the shit he sends to TH-camrs and stuff that will get him clout is going to work as advertised and give better customer service. I think that’s totally worth noting

My question as well, I saw some much older comments saying that it could not be used as a pickup; just as the sustainer generator.
Yes, it can function as a neck pickup too, there are many other options, there are many styles/models. I ordered too and it's cool
Any idea how it works ? Is it an oscillator that excites the strings; or the signal from a pickup amplified going thru the exciter coil ? I did the signal thru method. I went into a tape recorder w an amp and speaker and used the line out to excite an old coil from a Japanese old school cheapo guitar pickup. I just used it left hand only for violin type lines which didn't make me want to do a permanent install; but hearing it used here to just lively up response seemed very cool.
Hey bro me and a friend ordered 3 ($100 each + 30 shipping) he got a single coil, I got a humbucker and a single coil... (only took about a week to get them ... we are east coast) I do have a couple Fernandes guitars with Sustainers and yes these work but nowhere as good but they are also so $400 cheaper. also if you switch the pickup selector while it's on you get crazy squealing and there is only 2 modes even though he advertises 3 (UPDATE: I saw in the description on their ebay listing that the "MIX mode was with system on and neck PU selected) It will work when the neck pickup is selected but sounds darker and the drive pickup when system is off sounds a bit darker and not as good as the ceramic pickup that was there. I put in the single coil last night and well it works but you get what you pay for, I am hoping the humbucker will be better since the magnet seems much stronger I say that cause I had to get the pickups closer to get it to work better. If you can't shell out $500 for the Sustainer or $350 for a Sustainiac then get this one .

I bought a Fender Ed O'Brien Stratocaster when they were first released in 2018. It came from the factory with a Fernandes Sustainer in the neck position & two switches (on/off & harmonics). Love it! It's a great guitar all-around, built to Ed's specs, with a Texas Special in the middle and a Duncan JB Jr. in the bridge. The only gripe I have is that the battery compartment is so tight it is mighty hard to remove an old battery. But it's a keeper!

I love this. For a room setup, I got tired of batteries, so I wired a variable power supply (VPS) into the battery port. No more batteries. You also want to be sure the VPS is hooked into a power conditioner like a furman to reduce any outside noise.
Id order one but their website is absolute trash.

Back in the Mr. Scary days I gave the "sustainiac" a go on I believe an ESP & one other guitar. It sounded great but I was afraid I'd get lazy & use it too much, sort of overly dependent on it, but as I get older, instead of working way too hard to get feedback, this is a good choice for the "greying" Mr. Scary aficionados!

I just received my new “Sustainer” setup, which I chose to go with 2 push/pull volume and tone pots. The first thing I noticed was it did not arrive with a 3 way selector switch, so I went to their website to get a more specific wiring diagram to se if I need a basic three post 3 way switch or a 6 post switch, also information for how to wire up a bridge pickup for a (start from scratch) complete description for my specific layout, and even though they do have an impressive selection of different setups, but the specific information I am looking for couldn’t be found. If anybody can advise me as to what 3 way selector I need, how to set up my “DiMarzio Evo” bridge pickup with the “Veyz Humbucker and push/pull components” it would be greatly appreciated! 🤘🎸😎

There is no legit shop selling these. When you buy it, you're ordering from an individual person. Honestly this product has become pretty sketchy!

Veyz is the knockoff company of sustainers. Sustainiac in Indiana is who supplies the sustainer systems for Schecter and to the public for purchase.
I'm guessing they aren't in the united states.

I have had 3 actual Jackson DK2S guitars, and each one needed costly repairs more than once. Even when it had already been repaired by the inventor of the Sustainiac(A. Hoover). Try getting a hold of those guys on the phone or through email when you need help. Very difficult and not the friendliest individuals. There's a reason Eddie Van Halen didn't work with them, and there's a reason most of the big name guys were with Fernandes or Hard Driver. Veyz is a very friendly guy, and I was happy to do biz with him about a year ago.
Bonus: One of those Jackson's came back with a giant ding/chomp when they shipped it back to me after the first repair. So the system got fixed, but I got some free damage to my guitar 🙂...and then the system failed again not even a year later. I'll never use a sustainiac again, never do business with them again, and will stick to the hard driver ones in my PC1's, my old Fernandes guitars, or a Veyz.

The thought of drilling holes and chopping about my Les Paul would give me nightmares. I would opt for the Burny RLC-55 if I needed a sustainer, but my LP has all the sustain I could ever need. Cool gizmo though and at that price well worth it but I'd defo not carve up a top line guitar.

I'm with ya! If Sustainiac's site had some level of organization, and an actual web-based ordering system (email? Come on!) I'd have had one years ago. So confusing. I can see some people having installation issues, so fair play - but too much info is a turn-off. This Indo-system looks like a clone without the intensity option.

I just got in the mail My custom single coil driver from Tony. It's going in my Charvel DK24 and will be complementing My bare knuckle pickups.

As someone who grew up as Priest and Motley were becoming popular its HERESY that now in their 60’s and 70’s they kick out Original members and use replacements. Richie and John Lowery are two of the best hired guns but i still find it heresy. Whateva.

I was thinking of ordering one of these for my Stratocaster. Since the bridge pup on a Stratocaster sucks anyways I was thinking of getting a single coil version and putting it there. Would be cool for some blues...
I just received my Ibanez prestige like a month and a half ago and it has fluence moderns and with a little reverb and gain they sustain almost as good as that sustainer lol.

actually, its pretty common here in my country to make a custom sustainer. i think their tone is not that good, but if you want the sustainer so bad, well you can get it with really cheap prices

I’ve had experience with Veyz before.
And sadly, It wasn’t good. They always sent the wrong wiring diagram and the product they sent me was absolutely faulty, Couldn’t sustain any of the notes and the tone is somewhat off. And it somehow destroyed some of my electronics.

There used to be a guy from Bulgaria that was selling a kit with a sustainer driver the size of a fret... You'd put it on the end of your fret board and keep your pickups setup intact... I'm so sorry i wasn't ready financially to buy one when i found out about it... Now this guy is completely gone, can't find him anywhere...

I own a Fernandes Retrorocket Elite guitar with a 3 mode sustainer (normal, harmonic and harmonic mix) 🤗
The sound is very good for gothic style music, thats the one I play.
However I find the sustainer is hard to control compared to an ebow 🤗
The advantage is that u still can play with ur mediator and u have infinite sustain but you need a really precise action as any string hitted will ring infinetely 😅😅
i still find this too expensive... in the end its just simple technology like a microphone amp and speaker ... but in small and weak wehn it comes to wattage ... they should make an even simpler version .. just 2 cables for pick up signal (from the input jack) maybe a ground one if needed against noise ... maybe a twist knob for intensity (volume) and thats it ... the rest is too mutch and unasked for if you ask me ... all these features.... for example, my budget would be no more then 50 euros with shipping and all ( ca. 60 USD)
I’ve ordered from Veyz. Pickup didn’t work. Pickup wasn’t even waxed. They refused to give me a refund. Buyer beware. They suck.

Max, I installed (ok, my local music store tech installed) a sustainiac pickup, readily available, from the company in the good ole USA, on my 70s vibe squire strat. Easy to order, they needed make, model, pickup configuration, sent it pre-wired, only major hurdle was the router work for the battery box. Install kit was $225, tech charged me $80 for the work, and I gotta say I love it! Gonna take a while to figure out how to use it, cause it changes the whole personality of the axe, but it's fun as hell!
