No Stephen, you're the one who has put so much more into Australian motocross than anyone. Your MXDN involvement, coaching, industry support and brand loyalty. You are Australia's ultimate MR MOTOCROSS.
I will make sure Steve gets this comment, yep he is quite humble with how much he actually means to a lot of people. Thanks for the great comment and glad you enjoyed the vid!
I will pass that on, I am sure he will go and read all the comments, he really is such a genuine passionate man, and living legend, we ride moto every Thursday together and he still holds it on!
Great interview, i was lucky enough to be at MXoN with the Aussie contingent and everything Gally said is 100%, it was the best event, the euro's are mad. The VIP section was brilliant, well catered for and well worth it. Bring on Ironman 2025
That is so awesome! Yes Steve is so passionate about the Aussie team, I felt a need to get this video out there and share. I am not overly stoked with the production but it was my first crack at throwing together an interview in the new garage, so I am happy to hear you enjoyed the vid. It must have been bloody amazing to be there! Thanks for chiming in with your comment, appreciated!
Thanks Josh your welcome, I rang Steve on Thursday and said we gotta do this video while it's fresh. How much passion has the legend got??? He teared up there at one point, what a bloody top bloke.
My God Stephen, stop making the rest of us look so old!😄Great to see you again. Thanks for doing this guys. It's super interesting hearing behind the scene's stuff
Mate even my daughter was home when we shot the video and commented on how good he looks, but it is a result of a healthy lifestyle, its bloody awesome to see him still so active.
1986 was a solid performance by the team and Craig Dack's second in last moto, second 250 class behind Rick Johnson was fantastic. In those days points where based on where you finished in class which is why the US scored 4 points in 1986, 1-1-1-1-1-1 with the worst two scores being dropped. Today points are scored where you finish in a moto with only the single worst score dropped. Australia's best performance from that era was 4th in the 1988 Motocross des Nations held in France. Jeff Leisk finished 2nd in the 500cc class behind Ron Lechien in 1988. That would be the high water mark until Australia finally climbed the podium lead by Chad Reed, in France.
Amazing rider 👌trained at several of his schools & so studied his style from 12 yr old from first school at hungry creek with dacky being his young up & coming rider to show us young ones coming through the ranks how to tackle a berm. Rut. Double jump start proper riding gear & the basic maintenance on our motorcycle. Greg Cady was another positive guide to our career as well love ya time you have put into the motorcycle industry and our up and coming’s riders for Australia
Thanks Sean, Steve will read all these comments and I will make sure he does! Yes Greg Cady was a great ambassador, I did a school with Greg at Hungry Creek in 1980 as a 17 yo kid, I drove up from Cooma to do it.
I went to one of his schools at Hungry Creek, best week of my life with mates camping and riding. Went there a C grade rider came back went straight into A grade and in the beginning of 1983 won the Supercross on the YZ80J at Black Butt Gully

Great chat! So good to hear all the stories and insights from Gally. Like many, I was unaware of Kyle's back injury so that adds to the story and huge respect to him for continuing to race with all that hardware in his back. The pressure would have been huge on Kyle... but I'm sure he had to focus on the now and on the possibility of winning rather than losing it. But be sure to have another chat with Gally again soon! Like so many others, listening to his stories is so bloody good! Cheers!
Thanks Paul appreciate the comment, I have encouraged Steve to read all these as well, and I have been giving him updates, yes we have a few more SG episodes to do, Can't wait to bring them to everyone, its pretty awesome because we are good mates, he talks openly, its awesome, as he truly is!
@@oldmanspeedadventures yes ok great to hear! Great to hear the efforts of Gally et al to fund raise for the MXoN also! We all assume MA does that... But if we knew then we'd be more inclined to chip in. Having been to 2 MXoNs, they're amazing events and a must-do! With MXGP coming back to Australia let's hope it opens up more opportunities for more Aussies to race O/S and hopefully more sponsorship money in the sport for those racing here.
1986 and Dacka coming second was amazing and remember as a kid reading ADB about the event as well as 1984. It was great RJ mentioned Dacka on he’s reflection of the recent Aussie win and mentioned all the champions that came before the current team as a tribute.
Yeah how awesome was that of RJ! He mentioned Steve as well in that clip, absolute respect for RJ and his honouring of the Aussie effort over the years. Thanks for the comment.

It's good to look back to those days , and the Australian riders that were prominent then .When I first started buying ADB magazine in the early eighties , a rider that was getting a lot of attention was John Behrens , I haven't heard anything about him since back then.
Yeah John Behrens was always in ADB must have been good mates with the editor, I remember his pic always in there, I will ask Steve if he knows where he is these days
It used to be Trophy des Nations for three rider teams on 250's and Motocross Des Nations for three rider teams on 500's, two separate events. I went to both in 1980, Trophy in Italy and Motocross in England the following weekend. The 125 event was called the Coupe Des Nations. Then it combined to become the Motocross of Nations with three riders on 125, 250 and 500cc bikes.
