Nice truck... I mean some would now argue about it dragging its exhaust, floor pans and other stuff over the ground but to all those I can only say: just don't look at it. It's a choice to see only the poor side of things and complain about it... other than that this little truck is... well... desirable.... and the fact that it randomly lights up its right indicator is so utterly adorable and heartwarming that you oversee the fact that it's in pisspoor shape and that it's literally held together by hopes and dreams. Those things are only irrelevant details aren't they?

Very cool. Runs great. The floor need a piece of plywood, and it need tail lights. Also, please do not run an engine without an air filter. A rock going into your intake could seize your engine and damage it.

The Zhiguli/Lada was born. The looks between the Fiat 124 and the Lada 1200 were the same, but the Russian version was much more sturdy (bodywork and suspension) and had a Russian made engine. In short, it was constructed in such a way that it could withstand Russian road conditions and the most harsh climats. Hence the very strong heater the car had. Many survive today. Not many Polski Fiats survived though. Mainly due to the more Fiat-like construction meaning thinner bodywork and lesser reliability. That the vehicle in the video still wanted to run is due to its simplicity. Polski Fiats were also exported to many European countries. They were not sold by Fiat dealerships though. In fact, Fiat was not happy at all Lada’s and Polski Fiats made it beyond the Iron Curtain into the West. Together with Zastava, Lada and Polski Fiat were the cheapest available cars in Europe. Trabant, Wartburg and Skoda also were relatively cheap but these brands had nothing to do with Fiat.

The 124 didn't need to be so it wasn't adapted for the conditions like in Russia but it wasn't less robust. In the sense it wasn't more failure prone. The engines in the Lada were Russian made but their conversion from OHV to OHC was done together with the Italians.
