Love the simple trick of opening it upside down 👌🏼 step ahead of the game 💯

Hi thanks for this video, I'm trying to diagnose a very very slow coolant leak on my 2014 i10, so I'll have a good look around the water pump to see if there are any problems there. A quick question on coolant, I'm struggling to work out what coolant I should be using, the manual is very vague and just states that it must contain ethylene-glycol, but says nothing about whether it should be IAT, OAT, HOAT, P- HOAT etc. My local garage had a look at the coolant leak and replaced the thermostat 'O' ring, but it's still losing coolant - they put in a blue coolant, but without knowing what it is exactly, I can't top the coolant up properly as it goes down. The car doesn't overheat at all, so I'm not suspecting head gasket failure, more likely a small hole in the radiator, a duff cap or a hose leak somewhere.

The coolant I use is "Orange". This is suitable for modern Aluminium Cylinder heads. "Blue" is old school stuff that you might use for a cast iron head, such as a classic car.
Finding a leak is largely through close visual inspection. Usually there is a white flakey trail or a visible drip. Be sure to check behind the water pump pulley amongst other places.

Great video but how did you re tension the drive belt please?

It's manual tensioning. Loosen the alternator pivot bolt then adjust tension on the tensioner bolt underneath the alternator. (Pulls the alternator in and out.)
A guide to correct tension is when you can just twist the longest run of belt by 90 degrees with your finger and thumb, but no further.
      Then retighten the pivot bolt.

Forgot to mention. There's a locknut on the tensioner bolt that also has to be loosened to allow adjustment

I am elderly and have bad arthritis in my fingers. If I get a mobile mechanic to do this job what would be a fair price for this and how much will a new water pump cost? Car is at home, all coolant lost through bairing so its not driveable. Thanks

The water pump I used was a good quality but not OEM part ("Blueprint" brand). It cost £56.06 incl delivery.
I'm sorry I cannot advise on callout and labour rates, but should think it reasonable to complete this work within an hour.

"Minnie" (the cat) makes regular cameo appearances. She's a constant companion and in good health despite her inquisitiveness!

Did the cat come back out alive?
