  • Here is the simple reality: At one point or another, we're all going to need to see a doctor. But our health care system remains unaffordable, inaccessible, and deeply dysfunctional. It is unacceptable. We need Medicare for All.

Well, you can start by voting for Marianne Williamson in the Democratic primary.
Unlike Biden, she stands for: universal healthcare, strong climate action, reparations, native American justice, a ceasefire now, and free college and tech school. Visit her website for more info.
Shame on Bernie for endorsing Biden in the primary!

The problem, is that one party is very proud of being against free healthcare. They think it makes them look strong, when the reality is that Bernie Sanders is 100x the man Donald Trump is and ever will be.

Here you have sell your house to pay for the part of the bills even insurance won't cover, you lose your job and at best get a free wheelchair from a charity NOT affiliated with the government. Canadians have universal healthcare since the early nineteen sixties . I am seventy-six , I have diabetes , all my prescription drugs are covered , with a hundred dollar deductible each year . I had a hip replacement last April . I went in for surgery on the 27 th and was out at two in the afternoon the 28 th . I walked to the taxi and came home . I have had no problem with the hip since then . I am fortunate that I am in good health and otherwise fairly robust . When you have any medical procedures here everything is covered by your medical plan . In the States everything is run by big money , including their healthcare , which is a huge profit for the powers that be , at the expense of the most vulnerable . Bernie has taken buses of women dealing with cancer from Vermont to Montreal , fifty miles away , to buy the life saving medication they desperately need at pharmacies for one tenth of the price in the States . You have been paying thru the nose for too long . I have been listening to Bernie for years now , and it is unbelievable that you still don't have universal healthcare . Your G O P want to take away what ever coverage you do have . When was America great for anyone except big money ? You have all been had . Wake up !

If I didn't know any better, I would think we are being purposefully divided to keep us occupied on stuff that doesn't matter, and to prevent common people from rallying around issues that do matter and would genuinely impact our lives in a positive way. Why, because it would cost the very rich too much of their vast wealth. They would rather hoard it like a dragon.

Corporate healthcare is also bad for small business. As an entrepreneur, it's way cheaper to hire outside the country or even start your business in another country where there's free healthcare than have to cover the outrageous costs of employee healthcare. The lack of free healthcare is stifling innovation and causing brain-drain.

I have a family member who works for a big insurance company and has coverage through that employer. They needed a root canal, but ended up getting the tooth pulled because there were no in network dentists anywhere nearby and an out of network root canal was going to cost several thousand dollars. That same family member was recently denied a chest x-ray at a hospital ER when they went in with breathing difficulties and thought they had progressed to pneumonia. The hospital said they would only do the x-ray if they brought in a doctor’s note. Fortunately, and no thanks to the medical system, they have finally recovered. Ive given up on western medicine, and refuse to support this system of greed and the oligarchy of big pharma! I could tell you stories!! Mostly i feel strongly that functional medicine should be the first line, in diagnosing the underlying factors causing "dis" ease!! Western medicine is NOT preventative!! I get treated at the Veterans Administration.
They have their own doctors and hospitals.
Plus I can get treated outside of the VA and the VA pays for that too.
My wife gets cancer treatments from medicare. And during the COVID crisis qualified for medicade. Which is a completely different program with a similar sounding name.
    All very good programs.

Part of the cost of drugs is that the big pharms have a 15 year drug development horizon. They need that time for all of the dead ends that comes with that kind of research. If our national labs took over that research they'd have no excuses and we the people would own the patents and we could license them to the drug manufacturers.

Amazing that after 60 years, this discussion continues to be made. In 1964 as a member of our high school debate team we argued this issue for an entire year. Fortunately, for the past 30+ years living in Europe, I have been living under a dual system of health care for everyone, and if one so desires, they can have private health care as well, just as one has in Canada, too. I have excellent doctors, no complaints about the system, and as a retired person, no financial strain as a result of the cost for health care.
A few years ago I suddenly acquired some allergies, which developed into asthma. While on vacation in Italy, I had a real asthma attack, went to the first aid, was taken care of, use my health card, paid zero for the treatment and about €6 for medication, then continued to enjoy my time at the sea. Health care should be a human right everywhere. Perhaps a proper system will finally arrive in the US.

Senator Sanders is smarter, healthier, and more compassionate than any of our other political leaders. After I had a major hospital stay with Medicare and an excellent supplement I got billed by doctors who don't take Medicare. The Drs are the ones who ought to screaming to change the system if they expect patients living on a modest fixed income to pay them out of pocket. The thing about welfare not often explained today is the monies going to help the poor used to go into the pockets of the middle class such as doctors, property managers, and small farmers. Now our system is set up for conglomerates to profit directly from government handouts without helping the poorest in our society while ripping off the middle class.
