    The thing with all these pedals is.... you have to play the pedal, via the guitar. If you just play your usual licks, with your usual timing, chances are these pedals will sound terrible. However, if you use your ears and react to the pedal, you’ll start getting somewhere. The point of these, to me, is not to replicate decent synths. It is to enable guitarists to create sounds you can’t create using traditional effects - for the most part.
    I like them.

    • @johnsmits2494
      @johnsmits2494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      This is so true. Also if you develop certain skills and techniques to a high enough degree on guitar, you’ll be able to play some synth/ keyboard licks with just a wide ranging overdrive pedal and maybe a good EQ or octave pedal. A good idea as well is to take lessons from a teacher who can show. you “key/synth” think as opposed to guitar “think”. There are great pedals out there but most guitarists just play guitar stuff thru them, not realizing why certain settings on the pedal sound practically useless. Although obviously not every sound on a “guitar”.synth will be useable.

    A bit of constructive criticism her. These three pedals sound amazing and can be amazing tools for songwriting, layering when recording, or amazing effects to fatten up a live band sound. And it was kind of bothersome to watch this video when Lee was so unmotivated about this demo. I was really interested in these pedals, but this demo didn't really give them any justice.

      Lee does that from time to time, he comes in with a pre-formed opinion about something and won't really sway much from it during the demo, and as you say, the lack of enthusiasm does show. We do come here to see his, and the Anderton team's, opinion on these devices though, and if Lee isn't really into it then that's okay, these pedals aren't for everyone... and if we want the opinion of someone a bit more knowledgeable and experienced with synth pedals then we can check out some other reviews.

      I found the ending to be particularly jarring. The amount of effort that goes into making a pedal that sounds unique must be staggering. To have someone who doesn't understand them at all to just throw them on the floor comes across as incredibly disrespectful and rude. As said in some of these comments, usually enjoy the Andertons videos but this was disappointing.

    Pedals like these are great for opening up creativity and exploring new ideas, they aren't for every song or all the time. I had a EH Ravish Sitar pedal for a while and only used it now and then, but when I did it was a real change and made me think differently about playing. I would definitely add a pedal like these again just so I can have a freak out now and then. Also, I did think it was pretty disrespectful to tip the pedals on the floor like that at the end, these are made by small companies who put their heart and soul into them. That was unnecessary.

    Yeah so the tracking isn't perfect, and you can't play chords or fast stuff, but just because you can't play pentatonic blues on something doesn't mean it's not useful to a working guitarist. This type of pedal is so awesome for one guitarist to use to play the lead line or horn lick of a pop song while your keys player plays a pad. It's a shame Lee doesn't get it.

  • @michelrodriguez8752
    @michelrodriguez8752 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Why they play the same blues lick? I love blues, but guitar is more than that, and music much more. Can you be more creative playing something different? I appreciate all these reviews, but i think you are out of the reach of these pedals. Hendrix created something for a lot of people to replicate, he was the artist the rest is just an imitation. that is why he is in history and we are behind the screen. Sorry i did not like this one.

    I think the first two are just filter, fuzz and octave mixtured in one pedal. But Enzo is amazing, sounds like a real synth.

  • @jonesisdying
    @jonesisdying 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    There's ONE great synth pedal. The Boss SY300 is polyphonic and endlessly tweakable. You guys were kinda sniffy about it when it came out. For any traditional, dull blues/shred/hard rock merchant these pedals make NO sense. Try getting a real, committed experimental/electronica guitarist on the channel to demonstrate such things, or just leave it to Knobs.

    • @tappistrt
      @tappistrt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IMO the Enzo is pretty awesome considering it's half the price of the Boss. And when it comes to synth pedals, Lee's beverage of choice is definitely Haterade Maxx.

    • @LeanderCl
      @LeanderCl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the only pedal I use (no amp), even for standard guitar sounds, as it has about 20 different overdrive/distortion models in it. Along with some filter and EQ modules, you can get almost every standard guitar sound out it. But I kinda understand why people find it hard to use. You got to know some signal processing to handle it.

    These are not supposed to be used like a normal pedal. They are intended to vastly alter what your guitar does.so playing normal licks and saying they are useless is doing both the pedal and yourself a disservice.

    These are all interesting. The Synth-1 clearly has some insane fuzz tones hiding in there & the Enzo is basically the pedal I've been waiting for all my life. As a guitarist & a synth player, I'd say go into it knowing that one is not the other; you wouldn't want to hear a synth player rip a blues riff on a keyboard.

    As a guy who actually uses some of these pedals… I will say it depends on how you use them it’s almost like another instrument but if you dive into it long enough, it will inspire you to of make things that you wouldn’t consider doing. That being said, if you’re an old school person who just likes plugging right into an amp. Might not be for you

    I honestly started this video feeling like Lee at the end of the video and ended it feeling like Pete, I genuinely wish the Enzo was a bit more affordable, closer to £200 maybe, so I could justify owning one. It would not exactly be my most used pedal but damn I'm getting excited at some of the sounds coming out of it and it's the kind of thing you could just play with when feeling uninspired to come up with a new song.

    I bet Pete could pull off the Lucky Man solo on that Moogy one given a little practice. Who doesn’t want a Moog ladder filter in a guitar pedal that tracks decently? The Meris pedal is a monster as well. Cap needs to go spend some time in the Synth Dept of his own damn store and learn something instead of acting like a smartass.

    I bought the Roland GR55 Synth 4 years ago. I find I get it out about twice a year, spend more time flicking through all the sounds than actually playing it. If your in a covers band without a keyboard player it could earn its keep I suppose ;0p
