    Thank you so much for this! I’ve been watching the shorter videos of this thinking that everything I need to know was there, not to my surprise I was too excited and now 2 attempts with leatheratte later, after watching this course I think it’s better to do this right with actual genuine leather. Extra helpful too because that steering wheel came for a newer version B13 Tsuru? Mine is a Tsuru/Sunny as well but the first gen 1992 and had the 4 spoke steering wheel. Thank you so much sir stay safe! Much love from the Philippines!

      That's so thoughtful - watching these videos brings my thoughts to the craftsmen from the past, from fifty plus years ago, going back centuries, before machines took over man's work.
      The artisans of the past actually loved the work they did: woodworkers, builders, painters, silversmiths, many beautiful carvings & useful objects that lasted hundreds of years - their work was performed with patience & a desire to create perfection.
      This work Cesar & his son do (I hope I got that right?) is like stepping back in time & watching one of 'The Masters' at work.
      In China, they call Master Crafts people 'National Treasures' & I can see fully why they would merit that name. It must be such hard work & time consuming & I think it's wonderful you have it in your ♥ to donate to this amazing man & his family. I am amazed & feel blessed at finding this video, I truly am. It's giving me faith in human nature, in a world where it can be a very cold, callous place.

    Para hacer todo este proceso de costura, creo recordar que usted tiene ajustada la longitud de puntada a 5 milímetros, de modo que tiene la longitud a la distancia exacta, teniendo que hacer únicamente pequeñas correcciones moviendo un poquito la pieza de cuero. ¡¡¡Es usted un verdadero artista de la tapicería!!!
    Una última pregunta: ¿Qué opina usted de la técnica que muestran algunos tapiceros aficionados en TH-cam, rodeando el volante con film transparente de plástico, y después forrando el volante con cinta de papel (cinta de carrocero/masking tape) para después cortar la cinta y al despegarla del volante utilizar ese papel como una plantilla?
    ¿Entiendo que esa técnica no debe ser tan precisa como la suya? ¡¡Muchas gracias de nuevo por el tiempo que dedica a resolver nuestras dudas!!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Por favor, observe estos 'videos de soporte' que explican una de sus preguntas:
      th-cam.com/video/3jMrsSA5rBo/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/ELUFt1i5KFc/w-d-xo.html
      En cuanto a sacar molde con la 'cinta masking' si funcionaría hasta cierto punto, pero como la cinta es delgada al colocarla encima del cuero a manera de plantilla y hacer los cortes, las piezas de cuero resultarían mas pequeñas. El método básico de este primer curso enseña a hacer los trazos y los cortes directos a la pieza de cuero.

    • @deltajohnny
      @deltajohnny 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Muchísimas gracias por la explicación y por hacer referencia a esos vídeos de apoyo. No recordaba que en su día los vi y ha sido una muy buena manera de entender el proceso con total claridad :-)
      Me ha parecido ver que su máquina PFAFF1245, que es el modelo original, tiene la polea para poder manejarla manualmente más grande y ergonómica los modelos modernos, de modo que tal vez sea más cómoda para mover la aguja manualmente. Da gusto verle trabajar y ver la perfección en sus acabados... Ojalá con el paso del tiempo sus seguidores tengamos la misma precisión que usted para hacer este tipo de trabajos!
      Muchísimas gracias de nuevo!

      It could be. But, if it has too many shapes it would be advisable to make in 4 portions. Each part should be molded separately/individually. It is posssible to post a video in a near future.

    Hi Cesar, do you have to use a different kind of leather for the airbag ? or will it still deploy through the leather? Just something I was interested in.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ryan, In case of wheels with airbags this area should not be recovered. But, if we want to do it it would be necessary to respect the tearing lines to let the deployment and the 'sewings'(double stitches, etc.) should be 'simulated'...the 'sewn pieces should be just attached togetther but not sewn all along its center line. The leather material could be of same thickness (same leather).

      Hola Antoni, Efectivamente los hilos que se usan para los volantes son los mismos(100 % polyester)(también los de nylon sirven, pero que sean los hilos de tapicería) que se usan para hacer tapicería de carros y muebles. Para las puntadas 'europeas/de polígonos o de 'bastilla' se usan hilos delgados. En Mexico es el N° cero, que es el que le sigue al estandar que es el N°8. Para las puntadas de 'beisbol, de cruz y otras' se usa un hilo mas grueso que puede ser el 'doble cero' y hasta el 'triple cero'.

    se ve facil en el video, pero yo lo intente hoy y no me salio. creo que corte la piel el lado que no se estira. y pues cuando lo jalo para pornerlo sobre el volante y no llega. manana voy a intentarlo con un nuevo corte y hacerlo como 2 mas largo. oiga Don Cesar siempre se sigue la medida de adentro para hacer el corte? gracias.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Si tiene que ve mucho cortar la pieza del lado estirable de la piel.
      th-cam.com/video/dhmCJFpOs_0/w-d-xo.html
      Si se tiene que tomar en cuenta la medida interna del aro, porque en esta parte los bordes se van a unir para coserlos. La piel se estira hácia arriba hasta alcanzar su máximo estiramiento en el lomo del aro.
      En realidad al estirarse la piel a lo largo se llega a encoger en su ancho, por eso hay que darle un aumento para ese encogimiento. El grano impreso en la piel también llega a borrarse mas en la parte superior.
      Un poco de paciencia y lo va a lograr. Prueba y error son claves de la tapicería.

    My steering wheel is already covered in leather which needs replacing. Can I use the old leather as a stencil, taking care of the stretch line, or it is useless because if I use it the new leather will fit too loose? Thanks!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to make same design, yes, the old cover could be used as a template. As the cover was stretched lengthwise, after removing it , we will see some 'lumps' which were formed due to stretching all over the rim. There is also an 'stretching' breadthwise, but it is minimum. Lay the 'old cover pieces' over a cardboard to get new templates. Try to flatten the surface putting the 'lumps' aligned' upright, and start the process.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Estimado Jonatan, En cuanto a la pregunta, lo primero sería dibujar la forma deseada, luego para facilitar el proceso, rebajar aprox. 5 mm el canal alrededor del dibujo.
      Teniendo esto listo, le va a servir para asegurar un extremo con un 'cincho de plastico de 3 mm de ancho aprox.', luego jala a su lugar el otro extremo y lo asegura también para poder darle forma a la pieza de cuero/piel. Y asi las otras piexas.
      Al sacar la pieza moldead, tendrá una forma de 'U' y a la hora de coser parecerá difícil, pero no lo es si cose lo mas cercano al filo, no mas de 5 mm de 'tolerancia de costura'.
      Espero que esta información sirva de algo.

    • @Cechaflo

      Wrapping procedures with Alcantara material are similar as if it were with leather.
      Alcantara also has a breadthwise stretchy side that should be taken into account.
      You would need to order Alcantara with no backing cloth on its reverse because these are destined to car seats. It is the same material used to wrap dashboards.

      The 'curvature hight' changes according to the thickness/diameter of the steering-wheel rim.
      This support video shows the 'curvature height' is 3 mm because the rim is thinner.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the best would be the use of a mild product, soap, shampoo, cleaner, etc. with lukewarm water. I have no much idea, sorry.
      Master trimmer Eric Gordon (Hog Ring Car Upholstery Forum) gives us a tip:
      'I use china markers( black and white) as well as a Space pen (silver). China marker cleans up well with Acry solv applied with foam or micro soft towel'.
      This is the product: www.amazon.com/TRANSTAR-9783-Acry-Solvent-Aerosol/dp/B000RI578K
      Do a test on scraps of leather/vinyl beforehand, and let us know what happened. I think this product would also work for 'wax pencils'.
      Do not use alcohol. It is too strong. it removes lacquer and pigment from leather. To soften leather I sue alcohol mixed with water to reduce the effect. Besides, shampoo product helps to absorb it and not let it penetrate so much through.
      What about this other product:
      www.mrclean.com/en-us/shop-products/magic-erasers/magic-eraser-original
