  • Sharpen the blades on a brush cutter for a finish mowed look! Mowing the pond dam. Join me today for another episode of fresh air, freedom and the bobcat e42 R2 series mini excavator paired with a Construction attachments 42" brush cutter (heavy duty). Drone footage, sunshine, fresh air, machines at work, bush hogging, brush cutting, some sketchy work and more. Today we sharpened the blades of the 42" mini excavator brush cutter for a more finish mowing look on our Southern Illinois pond dam. First I tackled the overgrown pond dam segments and got the blade a little dull with all of the trees that I processed with it on the old pond dam. Looks good, an off set flail mower would work nicely. But would be limited compared to what else that will do.

    Thanks for the video! Would the Kioti tractor and bushwacker help you cut it somewhat quicker or is the dam too steep for the tractor?

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah that inside dam is only 3 to 1 slope, plus it is eroded from many rains when it was filling up so I don't want to try any machine on it. Even the back of the dam at 4 to 1 is sketchy. I took the tractor and bush hog on it a few weeks ago and did not want to mow the bottom half, this this unit will get double duty! Thanks

    How many feet around bank and how long did it take you? Debating on mulcher vs brush cutter for kubota 040. I would feel safer with this on banks because much lighter and less likely to tip. Any information appreciated. Pretty work!

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That half of the pond is about 1.5 acres. I had to cut about 5 feet of brush around most of it. Probably took maybe 20 to 25 mins my best guess, its been awhile. I love this cutter. Kind of a tough comparison on a mulcher vs cutter. I can process stuff with this, but not really as good as a mulcher. but the mulcher can't really 'mow' grass and weeds like this one can, thus I went with this cutter and not a mulcher. Best of luck, thanks!

    Hi Bud, I was thinking it would be faster to set the mower on the top of the grass and drive around the pond and turn around then cut further down ... and just drive back and forth without mowing the mower head so much.

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just too uneven and eroded to do that well. Plus as the machine is moving it robs hydraulic power from the mower head, so you can't track very far forward before you lose mower power. I did try it! Thanks man

  • @kiheidude

    Quick question: After using your CA brush cutter, would you recommend it or would you buy a different model? I’ve got a Kubota KX040-4 and currently using an Eterra flail mower to cut the banks and dams around my pond. The brush cutter seems a better choice. Any recommendations?

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I don't like flail mowers. Had one once and IMO it was almost useless compared to a rotary cutter if the material was wet at all, too thick, or heavy thick weeds. I chose this one because it can cut up to 6" material. So far it has done very well for me, and I did compare many models before I bought it. Good luck thanks

      @kiheidude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kapperoutdoors I totally agree with you. I have an Eterra flail mower and have used it for several years, but I’m ready to bite the bullet and get a rotary cutter. Thanks for the info. My head was swimming looking at all the various rotary cutters out there.

      not really. In summer it is common to drop quite a bit. But it is higher than previous summer years. Lots of new weeds now too!
