To all those making snarky comments, remember that an X5 absolutely obliterates the traditional 4x4s on the road in terms of speed and handling, and is a far more luxurious car all round. So it can do 80% of what they can off-road and kills them on the road. And no matter how much of an outdoor enthusiast you are, you still spend the vast majority of your time on the road. X5 for the win!

That is a big Toyota or Land Rover truck, that is chosen because it has space to carry a lot of equipment. BMW doesn't have such a work horse. They are more high-end than that.

He may be called Maximum Attack but it is seems he is minimum attack when it comes to flat tyres! And if you drive like him on Africa's dirt roads he will get lots of flat tyres or even rolling his vehicle.

If you want a car that is a mixture of everything either get the X5 or Cayenne or anything similar. Those cars are both luxury and quick and although the off-road capabilities are not insanely good, you still have the option to use it.
Im from Namibia, Walvis Bay to be specific. And i have never seen an X5 on the dunes like that.. It's Landcruiser territory. Even Jeep Wrangler territory. This was a good video.. Good job!

Amazing, I remember watching an X5 in TopGear couldn't even make it up a grassy hill and now it's off-roading in a dangerous environment...simply amazing! Hopefully BMW makes the system even better to match a Land Rover.

pol1250 totally agree, as a BMW driver I would drive land cruiser 200 4.5 D4D 2014 2015 then a x5
pol1250 I'm afraid bimmer will get stuck somewhere with an electrical or mechanical problem in the middle of the road...
@@Elliot_Vulpe you probably drive a 20 year old bimmer than cause I've never had any electrical problems, and mechanical issues have been the essentials that any other car require after certain miles

+Jakob Woolley Africa runs on Toyota SUVs and pick up trucks. They always keep a few Defenders for photo ops and to promote various tour services.

+Durveish Rs No absolutely not, they normally have a specific page on their websites to book these journeys. I goes from a few days to around 2 weeks or so. I'm not completely sure about prices but I know that the longer journeys in Asia or Australia are somewhere between 5000-7000€ per person for the Land Rover Experiences. The ones that last only a few days are less of course.

Bmw X5 is a solid all rounder, but on road it is great road holding

I'm guessing Carfection bought up a few TH-cam channels. I saw this first on Road/Show. So I'm watching this on your main channel so you guys get the views. Great video btw. A Top Gear like adventure. I want what he was wearing. That savanna long sleeve shirt and khaki cargo pants. Along with that hat. Living in Miami can feel just as hot lol.

Awesome video! What an incredible experience. Pretty cool to see what the X5 is capable of and in such amazing scenery.
Anyone who says " ooh these type of cars can't off-road " etc etc is only criticising either because they are talking about truly ridiculous expedition type offroading ,or its the entry of the green eyed monster..... for 99.999% of ordinary offroading situations i.e. country shows , farm tracks, emergency situations on road e.g. snowy downhills ,these cars are genuinely ( from much experience) more confidence inspiring and capable than a " standard" car ....here endeth the lesson :)
Well said. Having driven Military Land Rovers from 88” to 110 in many parts of our world where extreme conditions need extreme vehicles I totally agree with your points. Many of those who sneer at this wee video because it is a bmw are most likely jealous. I still own a Land Rover, driving them since 1963.

Three 4x4s rule Africa. The Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser VX and Nissan Patrol. Anything else is just fashion. Watch Kenya's 'Rhino Charge' charity event (among many), you see few other vehicles doing REAL off roading!

When you set the tire pressure lower or higher than the manufacturer's standard, you shouldn't do more than 80 kph, as it will damage the tire structure. Otherwise, even if it didn't get ripped immediately, it increases the potential of puncture in the future.

I own a 2017 BMW X5 and it’s a pretty capable, dependable vehicle per people that have models older than mind. I think people are holding on to the old bmw stigma. It’s not to many companies today period that are putting out unreliable vehicles. Just saying.

right ladies and gents. Tge X5 is no more capable than the likes of a Forester. the ampunt of X5s i have had to pull out of slippery fields is ridiculous. if you want a capable for similar money i suggest a Landrover/Toyota/Mitsubishi.

As a African, first, we have highways (just saying) second i can say that of you want a great car for everything (without dropping the pressure on the tires) just buy an toyota hilux, VW amarok, Ford Ranger, or Range Rover.
I am Namibian this is not what we call offroad.

Its no rock crawler but it is 4wd enough to get off the beaten track.
Not sure cruising around Africa for a few days in an air conditioned 50k SUV really counts as 'pushing your body to the limit'...

Although I agree that the X5 is a very capable SUV, I would much rather overland in a vehicle with greater parts availability and simplicity like a toyota/landrover (look at the film crews vehicles)
I think it is the best video I have seen from him.
- I am a BMW fan but I would still bring a Landrover or Landcruiser on such a trip for sure :)
