Started my career on the Cannon Rp with the Samyang 85 1.4 and Cannon 50mm 1.8. I had a love HATE relationship with it. I had about $4.5k saved in my first 6 months of business and I decided to switch ecosystems, and bought the Sony A74. I decided against the Cannon r6/r5 because of their lens lineup vs the 3rd party lens of Sony E mount. I couldn't be happier with my purchase (while using the kit lens)!!!
Taylor, you switch from Photo zu Video by ONLY pushing the Rec button? So you have the same Picture Profile Settings for both - photo and video? It's great that you can turn the wheel from Photo to Video on the a74 and have different Settings (as I love to shoot photo in black and white to see the contrasts better but want to shoot Video in SLOG) BUT I feel it takes too long for me to use the wheel and then press then REC button (2 Steps). So how do you do it?
This was very in depth and super helpful! I had no idea I could customize those C buttons - running to do that LOL. I have only had this camera for 2 weeks and I am in love. I made a huge jump from the Rebel t3&t6 to this mirrorless Sony. Honestly happy with the transition - shooting my first wedding with it in a couple of weeks :) Thanks for all your vids! The Panasonic S1H has a screen that both flips up and down and articulates. The fully articulating screen is attached to the fan that flips up and down, giving you the best of both worlds...and it keeps the camera cool. With video becoming more important on photo cameras, I think all the manufacturers should go in this direction.
To be honest, at this point in time any body you pick up is going to get the job done. It's all about the glass. Get whatever is cheaper and take the extra money and buy yourself high end glass.
As an enthusiast stepping up from D750 to mirrorless realm and practically starting over with new lenses, I am trying to decide between the A7 iv and Z6 ii. Primary requirement is clean ISO 6400 pictures and video, and great low light auto focus for recording kids' stage performances. Which system would you recommend?
Having used the Z6ii for a while then going to the a7iii, I'd say go a7iv. You'll lose the great ooc colors, but gain reliable autofocus that won't fail you when you need it most. dynamic range and high iso is great on both cameras. that said lens selection is better on E mount so you can choose to use a Sigma 85 F1.4 and 135 F1.8 over a 70-200 F2.8 and get better depth of field and lower iso while shooting the stage performances.
A74! I had the z6 z6ii d750 and I sold it all to go Sony. My only complaint is that I didn’t switch sooner to be honest. Sonys new color science is amazing, the video is way better out of this camera vs Nikon. Shooting experience and customization is second to none also. Autofocus is a lot better on the a74 also. With this camera you also get 10bit 422 colors in camera and not have to buy an atomos ninja. If you have any questions just ask.
Hey Taylor, had a general question about how u use the camera in hybrid mode for video and photo. I presume u have the ND filter for video. But when switching to photo mode, do u end up removing the ND ?
love the Sony A7IV so far, I'm very glad I decided to make the commitment to skip the A7iii. pre shooting full frame I was still shooting on the A6000 which I picked up back in 2014

You have to try them in the shop. Ergonomics and they way camera feels in Your hand is important. Both of them are excellent cameras and don't forget You're buying the whole ecosystem not just a camera body.

Just one question on hybrid photography when you have to switch very quickly from photo to video mode...as around in the 16th minute of the present video You would advise to register the pictures in raw files (if in burst mode) on the CF express card and the videos (on a V90's one below) in JPEG on the other one, is it right? I am not sure I understood what you meant...
Which would you suggest, Canon R6 or Sony A7IV for the work you do now (primarily weddings)? For someone who's jumping up to mirrorless for the first time and plans to shoot professional photography and videography. What is your experience with R6 video?
Either are great. R6 video in 4k 60 for sure overheats if you’re not using an external screen. A7iv has a crop for 4k60. I personally used an r6 as a main since it came out and am happy with it
No mention of shutter noise now that the competition offers cameras with no mechanical shutter, with silent mode that is perfect for wedding ceremonies and golf tournaments.

Wanted to ask that when shooting in 4k60, it is cropped but does that mean the 33MP becomes 14.7MP? How does the 1080P 60 compares to the 4K. Is it cropped or oversampled? @@TaylorJacksonPhoto Good to hear. I agree that it is unlikely for antone to stay that close to a person when taking photos or video. There is its own Facebook croup for this issue though. It may be more common with pets to frame the picture to be this close.
Not sure why anyone would want to do both, being either a photographer or videographer is stressful enough. Plus you lose referrals when you try to compete with everyone.

Z6ii all the way they have a better image quality and character to the image, that’s what I find anyway but both are brilliant camera’s

I wouldn’t say the a7 Iv is a Z9 competitor haha. But you can shoot silently with it if you want

Taylor is it 10 bit 4:2:0 cinetone your filming with usually.
I’m 10 bit 422 with this but usually for TH-cam content I’d just run 8 bit 420
There has been some issues with close distance focusing when using eye af and wide apertures. Have you noticed any issues?
I didn’t notice any on the 35 1.4 GM at 1.4. But I don’t think I spent more than a few minutes in that focusing zone with a person

Anybody shoot hybrid with two cameras ? Say an a7riii for photo and an fx30 for video ? I don’t trust the a7iv not to overheat

Yah. I’m not sure how Nikon has been so good at this for like 10 years. Canon also has very minimal buffer write time as well.
