Stronghold: Crusader is the successor to Firefly Studios's 2001 game Stronghold. Crusader has much in common with the original Stronghold, but differs from its predecessor in the fact that the game is no longer set in a pseudo-Europe, instead being set in the Middle East during the Crusades. The game features a multitude of new Arabian units that can be purchased in a new building, the mercenary post. Though the Arabian troops do not require any resources to produce, they are rather expensive. The game was also released as Stronghold Warchest. This version was a compendium of Stronghold and an enhanced version of Stronghold: Crusader, containing additional characters and an additional Crusader Trail.
Stronghold Crusader features several real-time strategy campaign strings. These document the First, Second and Third Crusade, as well as conflicts within the individual Crusader states. Each campaign comprises several battles, such as Nicaea, Heraclea, siege of Antioch, Krak des Chevaliers and the Siege of Jerusalem. The game also features the Crusader Trail, a series of 50 linked missions against various opponents. Stronghold Warchest adds one more Crusader Trail, consisting of 30 linked missions.

To increase your popularity, you can increase ur food rations and lower your tax, it makes peasants to come more faster👍
@@hussainkhann47 They have enough of everything. In the comming month on +14,hovels stays on 52/82 and new peasants comming rlly slow don't know why is that. Food is on max ratio. Every minute one free peasant.

I just finished this mission it took me 7 hours!! Finally finished the whole game! Couldn't get past the first 10 levels when i was 9 but 19 years later i have finished it!
Same, first time i played this amazing gamr i was 7 and had no freakin idea what to do😆 it took me 5 hours to ramp up my economy and defence, lets see how long the attacks need😐

+Runolist Velebitski Then again the very first Stronghold wasnt nearly as hard as Crusader. The introduction of limited building ground for farms etc. really rebalanced the game
+wilhelmrk In one way you are right. But introducing units for pure gold fucked up other things in my opinion. This changed gameplay dramatically.
xPyrielx The pure gold unit thing made it more interesting in my opinion because it was a mostly different set of troops that you could hire there (apart from the archers)
+wilhelmrk Units are well designed but the fact that they can be aquired for only gold, makes basic ones obsolote in some scenarios, which is bad.
xPyrielx But it allows you to sustain an army in an enviroment where you have no ressources like wood or iron. It makes a whole lot more scenarios possible in the end.

Just wanna sasy THANKYOU to Sergiu and other TH-camrs for making these videos. Stronghold was my favourite game as a child, i'd grown up watching woodcutters do his thing and the old fletcher wobble around. Now at 28 years old I've got this game again and actually kicking ass at building castles and decent eco and army thanks to Sergiu!!
With your help of how to set up the castle I was able to beat this, it took me nine and a half hours but I finally did it. Thank you so much for helping me become a better Crusader player and letting me enjoy one of my favorite childhood games in a deeper way, love the videos man.

Total possible number of units is divided by number of players. The more players, the less units each can have. Kill AI players and you get a rise in max of about 120 units per kill i think.

I actually laughed at this mission after I tried my "Death Valley" tactic. I made 2 towers and a 15 long 2 space narrow tunnel with flame throwers on the walls and stairs at the end to bait the AI to go after my archers/xbows on the towers. It was fun watching them burn to a crisp.
The only mission I've never beaten and never thought about using those shields. Really good job.

for me this mission is not the hardest in stronghold crusader
you just can rush nizar with with the pig units 45 of them with +5 good stuff and the king send to nizar king as arrow blocker till the pig units are there and smash him down then you have tons of gold and its much easyer
do shield and use beer to keep people happen sell 100% of the food or you can dude beer + food and taxs....you get more money with beer+selling food...but beer let them eat and charge taxs you dont have to do as much for micromanagement
This level is by far the hardest level in SC, the others being level 33 and 41 but I’m on my third try and finally won it! 12,000 enemy killed in 4.40 hours. Nizar was first to fall, followed by Caliph, Emir, Wolf, Lionheart and finally Wazir.
Some context about your situation:- You’ve only got space for ONE farm, 1-2 iron mines and 1-2 quarries (tip: protect your lonely iron mine and quarry with your life! A handful of trees in your base and that’s it! With 3k compared to all your enemies 40k, you’re up for a Long, Long battle!
Here’s what did NOT work:-
1. Rushing the Nizar with only 35-45 macemen, even with my Lord involved. Nizar builds too many units and those invisible assassins which make quick work out of your macemen.
2. Enclosing myself in with moats and walls. The enemies just camps out at their base as well and goes eco crazy, easily amassing over 60k gold each and will release hell over you the moment you open up either entrance for you to get out of your base to attack.
3. Losing control of my meagre quarry and iron production. Following number 2, the moment I opened up that area I lost control over it and had to back up my moat + defences and was out of rock and stone for the rest of the game. I had to rely on buying wood (cuz my trees were all used up) and turning them into crossbows and selling them. It was too slow and time consuming, I couldn’t keep up with the losses I was incurring at this point and I had already been playing for 3 hours.
4. Using my usual attack strategy of mass horse archers, assassins and catapults and going from the main route. You’re going to be caught in the crossfire between 2-3 sides of enemies at the same time because of how they are situated conveniently next to each other (and defending each other). Wolfs mangonels and Ballistas will wreck havoc on your troops while you’re trying to attack either the caliph or the Nizar, plus there’ll be too many troops coming towards you there.
Here’s what worked (for me so far):-
1. Selling almost everything I had right in the start, making two hovels, granary, marketplace, two armouries, barracks and making 50 macemen and rushing Nizar. It’s barely enough to take him out. I only had 9 macemen return and they were immediately sent to dig my moat next to my quarry and iron mine. With the 9k that came in from the Nizar, I immediately recruited 20 archers and 20 crossbowman and sent them up the KEEP (I had no time to even to send them up a tower!!) followed by 20 horse archers and 20 Arabian bowman to provide some cover while I sent my initial defence force up the first tower!! Once I beat the initial attacks (which comes freaking fast), I built a similar defence to Sergiu, and I was good defensively.
2. Balancing defensive and offensive troops, and using fire ballistas
One of the most annoying thing you’re going to face in this level if you’ve survived Long enough to build an Attack force is the words “Your army has reached it’s maximum size”, which means that you cannot produce any more units to Attack with than the ones you have already produced. This means you would need to have a delicate balance between defensive forces and saving enough troops for an effective attack force. I’ve found fire ballistas to be one of the most effective defensive (Against armoured units) and offensive (Against ranged units on towers) force. I had about 8-10 fire ballistas guarding my main entrance and another 8 guarding my iron mine / quarry together with a tower there. A couple of towers filled with the above units and your base is solidly defended. Each of my towers had an average of 15-20 archers, 15-20 crossbowmen and 8 shields.
3. A minimalistic economy
You’re only going to have space for 1 farm for the most of the game. Only once the Nizar and the Caliph was gone did I build up to 12 wheat farms down south and even then the peasants kept getting sniped from the wolf/lionheart etc. I chose hops as my 1 farm in my base and chose to forgo food production. My immediate build when my rush was over was two inns and two breweries and 1-2 more hovels, 1 quarry and 2 iron mines, 5-6 woodcutter huts and a bunch of fletcher workshops producing crossbows as wood and gold would allow me (eventually 8 of them). I exchanged them with 4 swords and 4 armour workshops when I was out wood. When my inns were running I immediately put tax up to -8, then when food was completely gone I cut taxes out. When I had enough troops for defence I saved money to buy Churches, cathedral and chapels (from the sales of my little iron and crossbows). I had to use my stone to repair my towers during catapult attacks when I would be a little late to select my ballistas on my towers to manually attack enemy catapults (this is probably the most idiotic thing about the game). Once I had religion up to +8/9 (1 cathedral, 2 Churches, 2-3 chapels) I continued taxes on -8 as I had no more food. When I finally had wheat and food going only then did I increase my population to 90 and had -12 taxes at the end of the game.
Tip:- remember to constantly check your defences, and take out enemy trebuchets, catapults and fire ballistas immediately when you see them by manually selecting your own ballistas on your towers to fire upon them (I had 4 towers on my main defensive front - 3 with ballistas and 1 mangonel - targeting the wazir and effectively suppressing him throughout the game so far). Failure to take down an enemy catapult can result in your tower falling and the entire troop stationed on that tower’s health drop by half instantly (plus you would have to spend another 35-40 stone to build a new tower, a luxury difficult to afford in this level! Also be careful not to let enemy fire ballistas snipe your troops one by one on the tower. For some reason your stupid tower ballistas love to shoot everything else before shooting the enemy’s siege equipment! Manually aim aim aim!
Thoughts:- I found if absolutely necessary to rush one Lord in the beginning. Failure to do so would mean constant harassment by Caliph’s slaves, which for some reason in this level LOVES to fill up your moats and burn your 1-2 quarry / iron mines, significantly reducing your chances of building an army WHILE the Nizar sends in hoards of Assassins up your towers (and destroying all your troops on the towers) or sneak into your base to wreck havoc to your economy. All this is happening while your troops are busy handling the mass amounts of heavily armoured units from Wolf, Lionheart and Emir and horse archers from Wazir. With the Nizar gone, at least the threat of assassins sneaking into your base or up your towers is gone.
Final comment:- this was by far the most challenging level in the game and quite rightly reflects the heartbeat of the game. Every strategy in the book had to be used (no cheating of course, I’m Glad to say I never cheated in any of the levels). All units are basically being thrown at you in large numbers and you’ve got to run on basically 1 farm, 1 quarry, 1-2 iron and just a handful of trees for a good 1-2 hours of the game at least!! Frustrating, nerve-wrecking, finger-clicking crazy, non-stop action and non-stop focus required... I won’t ever play this level again but I’m so Glad I’ve finished it, after starting this game close to 20 years ago! (Back then I could hardly get past level 2!!) Great game!!

Yea its actually bullshit - too OP with horse archers - nothing except pitch cant kill them - unplayable in multiplayer. I never used shields or any other ''bug'' which are in these games - i even know one that you will win against every bot player even against 7x Wolfs and anything like this 40 k gold vs 3 k etc.. even with 100 k vs 1 k gold would win . But you dont need that. In this map its easy rush orange - get 7 k of gold and easy to build defense - but it was actually smart dig water to get stone. But that just shows how bots are stupid and cant even dig :(

By the way have you ever considered buying loads of wood and buildings bunches of fletchers? With fear rating of 3 the fletchers always drop off 2 crossbows instead of 1 and with church+cathedral and buying some hops for beer you can keep the plebs happy even with no food! This lead to a simply awesome economy for me and the only production was 1 hop farm. Your portable shield on towers idea is brilliant btw.

So looks like it's impossible to win this mission without letting an open way to the Lord. If I close everything then in 2 minutes I have an entire freaking army approaching my stone production and that's the end of the story then.

That's the idea,I didn't want to stop them.If I where to block that pat,they would attack me from the side where I produced stone.By letting them to freely enter my castle,they left my stone production alone and fell exactly into my trap. :)

Change the strategies..Only you need is 10 -15 crossbowmens in early stage of the game with watch towers. Make the stone production faster. Invest all money to crossbowmens. Make 10 watch towers with 50 crossbowmens. then you are totally protected. You can peacefully make your army in your backyard to attack others while crossbowmens killing attacking troops. 50 of them will destroy any army.
I always let the enemy towers in the 'crumble' state. That way computer can't use them and he doesn't evem destroy them..
Yes, there are some tricks in the game like putting 100 archers in a highest tower etc..

along time ago i had play this game, now i have just download the game again to play it again (after i saw ur video, it seem look easy), now i have reach level 80 to beat (currently i have play this level more than 5 hours, and ofcourse alot of "match restart" to build defending area, but until now i have just kill 1 opponent.... so there is 6 opponent left. so i save it for future play..).... thank for the walkthrough... i enjoy playing this game

i love how everyone always has to place the stockpile perfectly aligned and the market close to the stockpile (to make transporting goods quicker right). I think it would break me if I saw someone doing it differently.

stuck at this mission
I dealt with the wolf like this - I destroyed the 3 towers with mangonels from a safe distance from the south using trabuchets, then I moved my troops closer to his walls and used a battering ram to quickly drill a hole trough his walls at the spot with iron ore - he didn't dig a moat there so my swordsmen could easily pass and enter his castle, destroyed his barracks, but he survived with like 1% health, because he menaged to burn most of my swordsmen with engineers placed on his keep
anyway, he never rebuilt his barracks for some reason, so I repeated the same process again, got 14 000 gold from him and suddenly, it all got much easier - I bought everythin I needed to destroy Lionheart and Emir (and Wazir, whose economy was ruined because I was constantly burning his bakeries from the very beginning)
haha, this mission took me about 6 hours, but I only played on 40 speed and sometimes even slower
On this last level today. Wow. Toughest on the games. You are very good, good to watch. I’m 3 hours in and just killed second enemy. Few hours to go now I have access to more farmland and stone/mines. Great game and on too crusader 2 after. Warlords coming soon too 👍🤲🏻

I think developer who make maps for second company (30 maps) little idiot, because all 29 maps so easy for play, always much resources and money in the begining. But this nightmare 30 map, why so stupid idea make unbelievable finish.

Abusing the shields surely makes everything easier. Too easy if you ask me, but thats just my opinion. I wouldnt recommend the shield spam in multiplayer, it just makes everything kinda lame.
Yeah.The 30 level is a real nightmare.I spent 12 hours to complete this and used 4 saves with different options.
My strategy was close to your but were differences - i used two towers in the front and almost always speed to 90 (I didn't use other sources of funds, because it was a little difficult to defend them).
Anyway it was interesting to watch your long way to victory.Thaks, sorry for poor english and greetings from Ukraine.

this mission... is just too op compared to other missions. there are NO resources at all (if you consider that iron and stone supply that cant even be walled from fire balistaes properly).
There's wood and space. You can build crossbow makers and sell the crossbows for money. You also make profit, if you buy the wood and sell crossbows.
You can add some religion for taxes on top of that and it's very easy, once you have the defense up.
I even beat it with ucp mod, wich makes it way harder. (AI Attack with more units and faster, have way stronger castles and arab swordsman can eat double the amount of crossbow hits.)
You also have to make beer instead of food, because one hopfarm can support more people than one grain farm.
I usually dig a maze-moat infront of my tower, so the enemy units need longer to walk into my base.
With a few fire thrower's, even the tanky units die then.
I finished this map after playing about five days 3 hours of playing daily. This is a really hard map. I never used shields. I sometimes got very angry with the game. There were times I thought nothing would work. In the end today, I could finish all of them. I can't tell how happy I was. I felt great to win without any hacks. First, I attacked to the orange very fast and killed him. Then try to defend and use the sources. Emir Omar is the most annoying one, the blue one. He will attack without break. But the richest one is surprisingly the black one. I got 26k gold from him. Whatever, played this in 2020 and finished all. 🙂
The last time i finished this mission i had like 24.000 kills and 2.000 deaths lol
When I played this mission I Immediately killed the caliph by selling iron/pitch and making a few horse archers and lots of ninjas. Then you get 10k gold back as well as a larger army limit and one less person attacking you. +it makes it easier to attack the island castle guy on the left later in the game.
Now thats an offensive mindset

oh this brings back times of me watching my dad play this in 2006 he also plays today and plays the same as always. he beaten the game alot of times and never gets bored of it. he got me to play the game too haha

when i was a kid playing this game i only used archer and i always got super scared when the enemy shouted and attack you with a massive force of armour infantry, now when i replay the game i realize the strongbowmen is OP and will eat everything for lunch 🤣🤣

The way i did this was: place stockpile and a hovel. Build 6 or 9 grave crosses to get +5 fear factor. Sell basically everything. Doing that you can buy and recruit 50 maceman. Rush nizar. It doesn t work without the fearfactor. After you rushed nizar, buy stone to get 4 square towers. Put ballistae on everyone. Use the patch of grass to start ale profuction. Use stone and iron on the little strip . Put there some ballistae and archers as caliph slaves will try to get there. Witj the 9000 from nizar you can get i think 20 shields 30 crossbowmen and 40 archers . Put 10shields 20 archers 15 crossbowmen on 2 of the towers. The towers should be close to the keep and in a square shape. The ballistae on the back towers won t get attacked. Wait until you have enough money to mount an offensive against caliph. From that point on things get easy. Sell everything and move stockpile to the south western side where nizar was. Use shields ballistae archers and crossbowmen to protect that area. Once you get to this point. You re gonna make a shit ton of money from all the resources there

That doesn't work. The AI can always build, unless your troops are standing directly on the file they want to build on.
They just have a small cooldown for building something, that was destroyed.
