My grab and go ALL Purpose: 30/30 lever action and model 19 combat magnum revolver. Main reason: No mags required, load by hand. Simple and ammo is very common. Toss in a .12 gauge pump and all areas covered.
With a little notice or support: M1A and a 1911.
Bottom line......have something and have a plan.

Given what can legally be obtained in Denmark, I would go for my Mauser K98k for the rifle. As for the pistol, I would go for a Makarov PM. That would give me a hard hitting, and accurate rifle, and a rugged pistol with enough stopping power for most situations.

I agree regarding a revolver. To me it is a "do all" type of handgun. As for the rifle tho....I really like my old Winchester 30-30, it's simple, easy, and reliable too. Thanks for your video.

I notice that a lot of responders here are including some variant of an AK and a Glock. All excellent choices. Because I don't have an AK I chose my SKS and Glock 17. All good weapons and good calibers. Stay safe every one.

Of what I own, my wife and I would each carry a high cap 9mm, an M&P and a beretta 92. the long guns would be a winchester defender 12 ga and a marlin lever action 30-30. No sense in talking about something I don't have.

Nice, smart choices. I guess I'll have to watch the video. To me, it really depends on what type of SHTF scenario, but worst case it's hard to argue with your choices.
I may make a couple suggestions; A Ruger GP100 Stainless w/4" barrel in .357/.38. No rust and built like a tank; And possibly a Ruger Mini 14 stainless if .223 is more redily available; Or a Marlin in .44 magnum (hard to break the lever action rifle).
I think you are on target regarding the AK, if you want a semi-auto.

@iMagUdspEllr The 5.56x45 needs to be traveling 2700fps + to reliably fragment. Out of a 16" barrel its traveling 2766fps after 100 yards. 150 yards is 2609, below the reliable fragmentation threshhold. At 300 yards, 2168, by 500 yards 1653fps. The hole you leave will be .22 and increasing as the bullet yaws, and coming back down and it continues its rotation. When you go to a 11.5" barrel your fragmentation range goes down to 45 meters.

  • @MrDarkwolf1995

@Jigssaw1989 The piston is driven back only 19 mm (0.7 in) when a shoulder on the piston rod butts against the seating and no further movement is possible. There is a light return spring held between the piston shoulder and the seating which returns the piston to its forward position. The gas cylinder is vented after the piston has traveled back 16 mm (0.6 in) and the remaining gases are exhausted into the atmosphere on the underside of the cylinder via two ports.

All I've got for a pistol is a Taurus model 82. It's an old one, but it's held up well at the range. It's basically a cheaper version of your model 10. Nothing fancy, just a fixed-sights service pistol chambered for .38 special. For a rifle, I'm gonna go with the Remington "Scoremaster" in .22lr, due to how much ammo I have for that. But my biggest advantage is that I wouldn't be alone. I'd have my dad and his 2 guns, as well ;)

Great thought video Miller!! I think the response requires looking into the time frame and the extent of the SHTF situation. Really it needs to be broken down into 2 parts. The initial period of WROL would require less reliability and more firepower. The number of people in a panic situation, the availability of materials, and the lack of time of preparedness would be key issues. The second part would be long term WROL where these would be more scarce.

  • @MultiMe200

Great question. First off that is an awesome post-apocalyptic movie, but i actually think an apocalypse type senario will be more like the road (as depressing as that is).
rifle: ak 103 (as if i could ever get a hold of one) just because ak's are really durable and I like the big caliber guns and this is basically a modern remake of an ak 74, plus the stock folds, making it compact.
pistol: glock chaimbered in .45 acp (21, 30, 36) .45 acp is a big caliber and will probably be easy to find

@Jigssaw1989 After 22 mm (0.9 in) of unrestricted travel, an wedge-like surface on the bolt carrier moves under the breech locking piece and lifts it up and out of engagement with the locking recesses in the steel body. The breech locking piece swings up and this movement provides the leverage required for primary extraction. The breech block is then carried rearwards extracting the empty cartridge casing from the chamber. A fixed ejector passes through a groove cut in the underside of the bolt

I am planning my gear on the early WROL. My main is my AR15A4 20" USMC copy with ACOG RCO. I live in Vermont so the extra range of the full rifle/ACOG is needed. My sidearm is my Walther P99QA .40. Long term WROL I would use my scoped k98k 8mm and my SW .357 revolver. In long term survival the punch/range of the 8mm in VT would be key along with the reliability.

    Great Question!
My rifle choice would be my Ruger Mini-30 since its 7.62x39mm with Tapco Stock and USA Magazine 30rd mags
My pistol is a bit tougher since it would between my Glock 22 40sw/357sig, Springfield 1911 45acp or my Taurus PT92 AFD 9mm circa 1993.
Since the 40sw is a widely used LEO rd it would be easier to get and the 9mm is the NATO standard but 45acp has barrel lengh and mass to get the job done as well very hard to decide! :(

  • @MrDarkwolf1995
    @MrDarkwolf1995 14 ปีที่แล้ว

@Jigssaw1989 The entire piston rod is chromium-plated to prevent fouling.
The locking system features a falling breech lock hinged from the bolt and housed in the bolt carrier that contains two locking lugs which descend into and engage locking shoulders in the receiver's internal guide rails. The weapon is unlocked by the short tappet-like stroke of the piston rod as it strikes the bolt carrier and drives it rearwards

In a SHTF environment, I would want things as simple and manual as possible. The less complicated the better, less moving parts, less chance of malfunctions. I would go with a 12-gauge double-barrel and a hammerless 357-mag revolver.

  • @MrDarkwolf1995
    @MrDarkwolf1995 14 ปีที่แล้ว

@DaytonaRoadster 30 Caliber rifle bullets of this type are known to knock men down, and throw them off their feet back some distance. The cartridge is powerful, accurate, and humane in it's ability to kill quickly. The permanent cavity produced remains after the bullet exits the body. The temporary cavity, about the size of a basketball causes tearing of tissues and muscle damage. The temporary cavitation (shock wave) causes death when it impacts the heart or liver

Handgun: Double-Action revolver chambered in .357; fires .38 specials as well. Variety of ammo too numerous to list and readily available/easy to reload. Long-gun: 12 ga. pump action. Slugs, sabots, buck-shot, bird shot, et al; again readily available, SAA. Sure, a semi-auto "anything" would be nice, but in a real SHTF scenario I would stick to the basics. Remember, he did state only "two,"[1 each.]
And realistically speaking, just how much hardware can YOU carry at a full trot?

@iMagUdspEllr • Upon entering a fleshy target, the 7.62x51 bullet travels strait nearly six inches before the massive shock wave ahead of the bullet transfers incredible energy into the target as the bullet begins to tumble although not as dramatically as the 5.56x45.The 7.62x51 bullets jacket will peel back into several large fragments leaving the lead core intact to create an exit wound. Thus the bullet can exit before the maximum shock wave expansion can occur. You don’t need special rounds

I would take a 9mm kel tec sub 2000 and a glock 17. They use the same magazines and 9mm is really common. The kel tech could easily fit in any nook or cranny in my truck so I could sneak it. The sub 2000 is actually a very reliable carbine which some people don't believe. I think that traveling light and without unnecessary suspicion is the best way to go.

Rifle - my DPMS AR15 with the Osprey Defense Piston conversion. If you have any questions about reliability just take a look at their (Osprey Defense) torture tests. Ammo is readily available.
Pistol - My Glock 20 with a 6 inch barrel. 10mm hits damn hard and I can trust it to get through barriers if I need it to.
For both the adaptability is amazing. I can switch out uppers on the AR for different calibers and do the same with the Glock by switching barrels if I run out of 10mm.

@iMagUdspEllr I was discussing the use of various different weapon platforms under the assumption that the person using them would be stationary--there's no way you'd carry multiple rifles on the move unless you're part of a team. In that case, I may want one person in my group to have a little greater range capabilities, but most of us would ideally have AR/AK variants--most people will be lucky to carry that much.

@Jigssaw1989 The vz. 58 is a selective fire gas-operated weapon that bleeds expanding combustion gases generated in the barrel from the ignited cartridge through a port drilled in the barrel, 215 mm (8.5 in) from the chamber, opening into a hollow cylinder located above the barrel that contains a short-stroke piston. The vz. 58 does not have a gas regulator and the full force of the gas pressure is exerted on the piston head, propelling it backwards in a single impulsive blow.

@DaytonaRoadster While the traditional 30-06 caliber bullet of the M1 Garand and 7.62 bullet of the M14 rifle would immediately knock a man down, the 5.56 bullet instead enters the body, quickly turns sideways after passing through only 4" of flesh, then breaks in two major pieces, as well as many smaller fragments. During the Vietnam War, soldiers reported that shooting an enemy soldier with the M16 did not kill as quickly as the old 30 caliber weapons.

@millerusaf yes i have thanks for bringing it up. as im sure you know the 556 tends to tumble or yaw when entering soft tissue ( if it has enough velocity left from travle) breaking apart sending little fragments into your body in a small spread.now if a few of those tiny fragments nicks a organ or two that will cause some nasty prolonged internal bleeding, again it was meant to wounds. i want a round that will turn your organs into mush and blow a big hole out your back and penetrate cover too.

Very tough question. I hope when the SHTF, that I will not have to rely on just two weapons. That would be very hard. But we may face that situation. I would choose an AR platform chambered in .308 and a Sig .45 - the AR in .308 has plenty of power and can also send plenty of lead downrange. It is also accurate enough to serve as a medium range SASS.

@iMagUdspEllr Class III armor protects against 148 gr 7.62x51mm bullets at a velocity of 2780 fps that’s point blank range. Class IV armor protects against 30.06 at point blank range, of course trauma plates over the sternum are required for both.i use a soft type II vest with inserts for my class IIIA plates and a trauma plate. I wear an over armor zip up LBE vest over it and an unattached pistol/utility belt.

Here's an odd one but logical; Marlin lever action .357 Mag and S&W 686p .357 Mag. They are both self contained units. Simply put, all you need is ammo for either to function. No detachable magazines to load to make the weapon function. Just load the gun ( "self contained magazine" ) and you're ready. The .357 chamber is also very flexible. You can shoot .38 Spl., .38 Spl+P, .38 Spl+P+ as well as .357 mag. Just a thought. What do you think?

@wcropp1 (cont.) clones do have their place--when you need to move quick and carry lots of rounds, or are going to be in an urban/suburban environment. The battle rifles are for stationary fortifications (which are quite unlikely to ever be needed, though it's not impossible) or when you're out in the boonies, in which case a bolt action hunting gun would be *almost* as good assuming hordes of evil zombies aren't coming for you. Battle rifle is a good jack of all trades though, I'll admit.

@whylie74 The only numbering, that I can see is at the trigger housing which says
    Litthgow
    Sht. L.E III
    1920
i bought it about 15 yrs ago, for 75 dollars, Who ever owned it before put a checkered sporter stock on. It was the first rifle, bigger than a 22 that I ever
purchased, originally wanted a 98k mauser, but the Enfield was caught my eye .

Wasr-10 (7.62x39) and Taurus 24/7 (.40 S&W). Both are flawlessly reliable and easy to find ammo for. The accuracy on both is more than adequate for a firefight.

I have an M.N. M44 and a CZ-82, that is what I would have to use. They're both simple and unlikely to break, which is a plus.

I'd use a springfeild M1a and my 357 magnum ryger blackhawk (revolver) its a single action but it gets the job done,it also has another cylinder that allows you to shoot a 9mm as well.so 3 different calibers in one pistol (.38,.357 magnum and the 9mm)

You can't go wrong with your selections. Ready and available rounds are important for their popularity. 9mm though, in the future is another option. Great points on the revolver and their reliability even though I do not own one.

I would choose my Mini-14 and Ruger SR9. They have both proven very reliable. I do have a WASR-10 which has never failed me either. The Mini-14 is more accurate with the rock solid Garand action so it gets the nod.

@545Krinkify Because parts, ammo, and mags are more commonly available for AR15's chambered in 5.56? Plus surplus 5.45 is mildly corrosive.. Yes, the 5.45 damages tissue by yawing/tumbling (twice if possible), while the 5.56 is designed to damage tissue by fragmenting. The 5.45 does its job more reliably, but the 5.56 is more devastating when it does work.. Hopefully the newly adopted USMC MK318 MOD-0 round will drop in price in the near future though, to the price of SS109 ammo maybe.

WASR 10 and Glock 22. I also keep my 9mm conversion barrel for my G22 in my pocket. I like the idea of a revolver, though. If I decided to carry a revolver it would be my 4" GP100 SS in .357. Good video!

My first choice would be my previously owned WASR 10, & my Glock 19. Then, I'd choose another previously owned Mini-14 & my Glock 19. Finally, I'd choose my current Windham SRC AR & my Glock 19. As far as AR's go, Windham is fantastic. 500/500 rnds have fired w/o a single problem. 350 of those were steel cased Silver Bear. However, I dont want to have to worry about lube in humid/dry weather. The robust action of both the AK & Mini make me feel confident in their reliability. More so than ANY AR

I've got a lot of love for the PSL-54C but it's necessary to hand-pick one because of a high defect rate in an otherwise very suitable fighting gun. Mine's cleaned-up and nasty, AKM protruding grip and stock, M14 recoil spring and all of the functionality of an AK in a considerably more accurate package.
THe pistol would be a Ruger Service 6 right now, and in the future a GP100 in .357. THe .357 will chamber and fire any straight-neck 9mm round with the right retention clip.

@DaytonaRoadster of course, they have access to fully automatic weapons so they use a round that was desighned for that very function, and withing 300 meters is where full auto shines. 5.56 is a very bad round next to full power rifle rounds UNLESS you are hit multiple times in rapid succsesion. if you dont have a full auto fire arm then why would you use a round that was meant for it? a full power round in a semi only firearm is far more affective if you are limited to that only

I have a group of people (friends & family) that I would get to gather with in a SHTF situation and we all have AR-15's and we all have 45autos. Most of us are in our mid 60's but we still work out with our weapons at least once a month. and we are all some what prepared for a bad situation.

I'll put my two cents into the debate ranging on here:
As long as you hit the center axis of the upper torso, preferrably hitting the spine, you will cause almost immediate death or incapacitation. This fact will ring true regardless of caliber. The 5.45, 5.56, 7.62x39mm, and the 7.62x51mm have equally taken lots of lives over the years on the battlefield.
Of course, since we are playing this game, I will counter the 7.62x51mm with the 7.62x54R 203 grain soft tip round. :)

@iMagUdspEllr Needing to shoot the enemy multiple times has many disadvantages, the enemy can pinpoint your location from the sound, uses double if not triple the ammo, takes more time and leaves you exposed. I aim upper center mass( sternum roughly) if I did hit him in the hip, doubt it but if I did his leg would be nearly severed and hydrostatic shock would damage the femoral artery and lower organs. He wont be doing anything but passing out, going into shock or dying from massive blood loss

Just for fun? pistol would either be a colt single action army .45LC revolver or a 1911A1 .45. rifle either a Mosin Nagant or a M4 both with some modifications. for extra points i love shotguns, Mossberg 500 cruizer with dual pistol grip and folding stock on a sling. and of course my Kukri. however in a true SHTF situation, when i need a gun theyll be plenty on the ground, to quote my teacher Valient. Vietnam Vet and good friend.

    7.62x54R 185 Grain BT Traveleing @ 2700 fps
Energy at muzzle: 2994 ft lbs
Energy at 200 yards: 2272 ft lbs
Energy at 400 yards: 1854 ft lbs
Energy at 1000 yards: 747 ft lbs (with over 300 inches of bullet drop)
The 203 grain will be slightly less velocity, but slightly more in energy.

My Arsenal SGL31 5.45x39 with a (will be purchasing soon) Glock 22 .40S&W and (if I ever get the funds) a Tigr SVD 7.63x54r. I live in Phx, AZ where pretty much everyone has a weapon, so I wanted a cheap yet effective weapons that I can stock up on ammo and parts fairly simply. Most cops here carry Glock 22s and 5.45x39 is dirt cheap. As well as the Glock and AK platforms are wonderful and reliable designs. The SVD is just so I can have the upper hand on guys with ARs at range.

My Saiga SKS (7.62x39mm) and my Ruger Redhawk (.44Mag.) Both are vary reliable and have some power behind them. The Saiga is basically and AK47 and in that kind of situation there would be no laws so mods to ammo and mags could be easily made so AK parts could be used. The Ruger I could use all the types of 44 ammo and well its a Ruger Revolver! Also in the Ruger I would use soft lead bullets with deep Xs cut in them for max expansion and energy transfer.
