    I repeat myself. At Westham, Rice spent majority of the game chasing the ball to win it back to give it immediately to players who’ll lose it as quickly as they got it!
    Under Arteta, it’s the opposite. Arterta’s Arsenal leads on Field Tilt probably across all Europe; so Rice spends majority of the time WITH the ball! So he’s had to learn from Arteta a lot of new things that he knew nothing about previously regarding efficiency and effectiveness offensively on and off the ball. Yes, you can be very offensive WITHOUT the ball in Arteta’s system! Rice and Havertz are incredibly effective in that more and more this season and it’s helped the entire team, a lot!
    So for me to see Rice grasp such amount of detailed data and be able to process it like he is, in less than a season with Arteta’s education when Rodri has been with Pep so many years; Rice for me is more valuable to his team this season and has contributed a far greater amount to how much Arsenal has improved as a team than Rodri has shown this season.
    I’m looking at the AMOUNT of 🆕 things Rice has had to study 📚 and execute at a very very high level in the shortest time! It’s abundantly clear how Arteta is exhaustive in details when coaching a player, and many just freeze when such gigabytes of data is uploaded into them, not Rice! He’s thrived so rapidly it’s insanely impressive for both Arteta and him…and Arsenal of course.
    I’m definitely sure this is how Arteta will put it himself. But it’ll go over so many people. But that’s fine👍🏾.
    Declan Rice for me. After the summer preseason, Rice will be a Syllabus of Football Knowledge; studied by many, authored by Mikel Arteta’s genius;
    Now everyone understands why Rice listened to Arteta and refused to join Bayern and City…he chose Education over an already Big Club. Now he’s gonna be part of a great Arsenal Storyline that he’s markedly part of💯

    Rodri is better, they tried to use numbers to hype rice and it just confirmed it. Every category Rodri was top 4 in the league in, mostly first or second. The eye test says Rodri, the consistency says Rodri and the performances in big games says Rodri. Now maybe down the line rice will overtake him, who knows, but this is a reach right now.

He can do everything Rodri can to the same standard and more whereas Rodri cant do the same. Kind of a dumb comparison tbh - both have different roles in their team which is why the state are what they are. Rodri needed to break the line with passing for months on end due to the lack of KDB. Rice doesn’t need to break the line with passing since that’s what odegaard does, hence why he’s developed in carrying the ball.
    Obviously Rodri is at his peak and has cemented his role in great team play. Rice still has a ways to go but I wouldn’t say he’s that far off. Will be interesting to see rice in the coming years and what he’ll do for arsenal and England. Cheers

    Definitely, they picked Rice because he's English. But realistically, if they owned teams, they would sign Rodri over Rice any day. He's bigger and way more physical, attributes you need in a holding midfielder. Now, if the question was about attacking midfield, then you could probably make a case for Rice. But objectively, Rodri is a better extension of the defense, and his size and physicality is essential for defending set pieces.

    Rodri is top class but I think Rice has that Steven Gerrad ceiling in his future. He's not actually a 6 but an 8. He's a wonderful carrier of the ball and is more Yaya Toure than people are willing to admit or better yet Patrick Viera. He has some Mousa Dembele shiftness too. He's not better on the ball than Partey but he's covers the field with Nkante like facility. He's improved technically but he was always skillful as a player, a street baller kind of skill, functional skill if you may. But Rodri is similar to Casemiro in his adeptness on the ball, Argentinian/Italy to constantly foul and a natural tempo setter like Busquets.
