One thing that I think is extremely important with night fishing is to have a good mental picture of what sort of snags and obstacles are around you. Stopping a carp getting into the fallen tree or lily pads in the day time is relatively easy because you know how much room you've got to play with but at night you might not realise until you feel the line grating. Just have a look before it goes dark to get the scene imprinted in your mind, if there are lilies to the left then you know if the fish starts kiting that way during the fight then you need to put the brakes on and get it turned. The other thing is to pick your spots and be aware of how long it's going to take you to get to your rods at night (waking up + escape fart sack + boots on + find head torch + undo bivvy zips + cover distance to rods) because a carp can cover a lot of distance in that time. Even if you've not got much play on the clutch when it's on the alarms there is easily 10ft of stretch in the mono at 40yrds so if you've cast near a snag then the fish will likely be in it by the time you've picked up the rod. If you're a heavy sleeper you need to be even more aware of it and never try to fish locked up at night.
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
Want to try this now. We have a local loch, I've noticed even on sunny days there are fish rising in a corner which has always been darker due to large overhanging trees. Fly fishing is more my thing although picked up a slow feeder after watching a few posts you had. Very informative and well worth a watch for those of us who generally stick to what we know. A carp tent and kit will definitely cheer my wife up 😁. Many thanks for another great post 🙏
Super video full of great tips. One other thing beginners might want to consider is to bring a floated weigh/retention sling to be able to photo your catch at first light. Thanks for the continued great tutorials.
Another great video. I've night fished for years but still enjoyed this video. Full of good advice, especially going with a friend. When you first go in the dark it's easy to freak yourself out with night time noises!😂
3:40 - A little bit older and have a sore back! Dude, I'm 42, broke my back in three places in March and fish 12-hour sessions on rocks already! You need to come and do a session LRF fishing with me and open up the eyes to fishing, not camping with rods in the water. Come have a 50 fish sesh with me at Brixham.
Another well done informative video well done Carl and team I'm off to the river Trent for four days soon and it's always worth watching a tutorial even though I've been fishing for fifty years.
this will be helpfull doing another night session end of the month generally bait up with pva bags so might have to bait abit heavyer isnt a large lake so no need for a spod, any night sessions so far havent produced anything after dark not even a cat getting most of them during the day.
I asked for you to do this a while back (never thought you'd get round to it or take it seriously) , thank you Carl, your a legend and this will help a lot! ❤💚🧡😊😊😊
Hello Carl. Been a follower for yonks, sometimes I think I recognise where you are. However, I have heard that you are filming in my area this week. Whereas I’m not going to let on where I believe you are nor am I going to stalk you. I am going to ask when you are going to release the video. I will only say you are in Milton Keynes. If you are on the lake then ok, but if you are on the river then bingo, I need as much help because I have lost so much tackle and drawn blanks, I need inspiration.
Thanks Mr Smith... This is some really good timing... Carp fishing during the day is near impossible because of boats so I'll have to strike at night... This will help
I do a lot of night fishing so i know everything you talk about but your videos are so entertaining I could watch you talk about a rock for an hour lol
Nice one. Personally, my number one reason for fishing at night is getting “cheap” extra hours with a rig in the water. Rarely got the time (and patience…) for sitting by the lake all day
I’m out now on the barbel at 12:30am. Barn owl was out at dusk, had a kingfisher on my rod tip earlier, hope the barbel show up like they did last night…
Great advice. I also like to keep valuables like house and car keys, wallets, and phone cameras in a waterproof Tupperware box safe from water damage, just in case the heavens open or fall in when they are on you. Saved me once from disaster 😮 spare head tourch as well.
Hi Carl good video really helped me when night fishing for the first time sadly no fish but couple bites. A quick question how long can the fish stay in a retainer sling or weighing sling ?
Hi 👋🏽 I’m sorry I have stupid question because I’ve spent first time 24Hr session it was great 😊 I couldn’t believe how could i miss this out but these was an issue no sleep because of Mosquito and spiders and pliers so it was scary and I’m wondering if this is on every lake like that ? 😅
@@fishingtutorials Great! Also I'm currently 13, and I would love to make a career out of fishing like what you do, is this your full time job? and how long did it take you to get to this stage, your basically my idol lol
Most of the time I use Daiwa 10ft Crosscast 3lb testcurve rods with Daiwa GS4000 reels :) and occasionally 12ft Crosscast rods for very large waters to cast further with Daiwa Tournament reels :)
We do sometimes! But because he isn't into it as much anymore it's not very often. Alex still likes his sea fishing though, mostly because he can fish for food! :)

I liked that last part about being respectful of others and keeping the noise down. Great video.

would 2 rod stands work if you dont have bank sticks?
Most important head torch. Second most important spare head torch
hahah yep!
Have you ever went fishing for pike in the night, if so how did it go and what rig did u use?
You just do the same at night. Lure fishing isn’t really handy, but you could try dead bait on a bite alarm instead. It works great!
@@jerrimallee955 I was thinking of that, but should i use a free running rig with a weight or a more complicated rig?
@@uugabuuga I just ty a free running swivellead above my treble hook. At the end it is just the same as fishing for pike at daylight.
top video

With the heat, night fishing....
What if a water snake bites you
They're usually scared off by the sounds you make in the water before you can get close enough to one for it to hurt you :) - I hardly ever see them.
Will never understand why carp anglers
Sleep while night fishing I prefer to stay awake and be on the ball...
48hrs maybe but not a 12/24 hour session....each to their own I guess..
