Thank you Francis for uploading the best year musically, and my birth year. 👍 All of these songs are now a part of the 40 club! Joe Fagins song was used in a popular TV programme 'Auf Wiedersehn Pet'. Shame Cyndi Lauper never got a #1. The year Madonna's career blew up and made her the Queen of Pop. Katrina & The Waves have the honour of being our last Eurovision winners. The Eurythmics song is apt with the wet weather we've had since Christmas. Is Hasim's songs one of the few (if not only) songs with an Arabic title (I know its virtually instrumental) to make the UK chart? 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' was only 78th here?! Alexei Sayle has sadly gone down the 'alt-left' plughole. Fraggle Rock - I remember that as a child.
This is the group of death with many classics. Shows strong 1984 was. Even the so called quiet months were on fire! Some of these are played today. My favourites are the excellent and fantastic 'Radio Gaga' by Queen. A true anthem by an amazing group. Cyndi Lauper's pop classic 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'. The stadium rock classic 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' by The Scorpions and the sultry and smooth 'Your Love Is King' by Sade. Just too many great songs to list here.
It's depressing to think that this era of music is as "close" to us now, in 2024, as 1984 was to World War II. I grew up on this stuff and I feel so old. On a more positive note, I simply adore Michael Caine by Madness.
Gramp used to like bands from 1944. People like the Beach Boys, Dead or Alive etc.
Both talk talk and Stephen tin tin duffy would re enter the charts later and enjoy top 20 hits. I thought it's my life was too low. A great song.
Also I had to search out that Hashim video and it is just great. A combination of breakdancing, old tube trains and stations is a perfect combo 👍
