Description:Turn On the car (do not start just turn key on) shift gear to N then turn off car wait for 15 second. Shift gear to P turn on the car (do not start just turn key on) wait for 15 seconds then turn off key and turn on again shit gear to N Car will give you message Transmission Ready.

That's a temporary fix for your case. You will need to get your transmission checked by a professional. Maybe the actuators jammed (very common until 2015 due to rust).
1. Turn on car
2. Shift car into neutral
3. Turn off the car
4. Wait 15 seconds
5. Turn transmission to park position
6. Turn on car (DO NOT START)!!!
7. Wait 15 seconds....
8. Turn off your car 2 seconds
9. Turn on your car 2 seconds
(DO NOT START)
10. Shift car into neutral to complete the TCM reset

The reset sequence definitely works. I drove the car around 20 miles and it was shifting better than it was before - not great - but definitely better. I'm going to clear the check engin code, reset again and drive it about 90 miles to my friend's house since I have the 100 mile AAA towing service. Fingers crossed.

You my friend are an internet wizard. The dealership wanted $3,000 to replace the dual clutch. I replaced the clutch actuators ($140), fixed the electrical grounding, and did your magic Vudu and the car shifts like new. I have put 500 miles on it since trying your magic and it hasn't missed a gear since. Thank you.

@T. Stew there is another trick taught to me by a Ford mechanic. It's called scrubbing the clutch. You need to find a nice strip of pavement with no traffic. Come to a stop (it works well at night getting on a highway on ramp for me) and then floor it and let the car run through all 6 gears which means you'll be at like 70MPH once you get into the last gear (6th). It's best to do it at least twice and then you'll notice the car begins to shift a million times better than before. I don't really understand why it works, he explained it to me but I didn't understand, lol. But it definitely works!
By fixed, do you mean removing the paint off of the contact points for those ground wires?
Thank you my friend. I followed your instructions. Something started ticking. Then when I turned the car off completely even with a remote control I locked the car and opened, then started. The ticking went away and I started driving

Edit: This is a temporary fix. The issue will come back.
Search for Ford Focus ground problems. I saw another video where the person was having the same problem, and it was related to paint on the grounding lugs.

I thought the TCM had to be reprogrammed at the dealer? How did you replace the TCM yourself?

You changed your TCM but did it have to be reprogrammed with a ford scan tool.

It worked for me, and it (so far, knock on wood, it lasts) is like driving a new car. It's totally different from what I'm used to. I've only owned it for 13K miles, and wow, what a huge difference so far.
The next thing i will be doing is changing the transmission fluid out and going from there.

@@jamiemichelledemijparazoo-3726 no not exactly, and the light came back on, issue was not fixed - ended up trading the car in and getting a different one. Apparently this is a known Ford design issue.

Use manual Shift mode when bumper to bumper.

I found in my 2016 Ford focus SE if I shut off the traction control the transmission works better.

Ford dealer just lied to me that I need a new clutch fork plus labour over $3800 Australia currency. In many youtube showed problem with TCM & clutch actuators (also called clutch fork). They must lie to me. I knew it. How to access traction control?

What this 'procedure' is to reset the 'home position' of the clutch pak, temporary fix. Will probably have to do EVERY 6mo OR until you park that shiny new TOYOTA in your garage!

Did you need to reset the TCM because it was replaced? Or was it losing gears and not going into reverse? If that's the case, it will just have the same issues again.

My check engine light came on and then my transmission jerked all the way home. I turned the car off when I got home and when I went to restart the car, it took four times to start. I think you have transmission issue . Better go to garage
Clutch is on its way out. Go to the dealership, if you’re under 150k, they’ll put a new TCM in free of charge.

I grabbed one out of a junkyard car and put it in myself, it wasn’t too difficult. I haven’t had it programmed by Ford, but I did do the battery jumper pcm reset, and its been running great. I just drove 1600 miles without an issue.

I have an easier solution. For my 2012 focus se hatchback with the power package and 4” display, all you have to do is put the key in the run position and put it into neutral. It will then display transmission ready. For my model, all that waiting is not required
It will say ready after being in the on position for awhile?
@@rayzelito like 10 seconds or so or until you start it and put it in gear. Key in on position, wait for dinging to stop, put it into neutral and the message should appear.
Just want to say this worked for my 2014 Focus that was having the same issue. The check transmission light is still on, but the car is shifting correctly now without bumpiness.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus no signs of anything wrong other then once in awhile it felt like the car would be skipping, pulled into my driveway again no signs ot warning, put car in reverse just sat still, wouldn't move, put it in drive again nothing won't move ???? Try pushing the gas a little harder on the start. This car doesn't like to be driven easy...it likes it rough.

You have typed in the comments this is for 2012 to 2014 but the ford focus uses the same transmission from 2012 to 2016 (as far as I know) I want to try this on my 2016 unless you have insight that I am not aware of.

@@josephsaj8930 2016 focus se SUCKS! My car will go up to like three or four RPMs but it will drop down to very low RPMs like one or one and a half when I'm going down a hill. I tried resetting the PCM and that was not the problem. Will resetting the TCM work on a 2016?!

I have a 2013 focus se 2.0l won’t start after i drive it. I checked battery was good, put new starter, new relays on starter and Ignition relay and new negative battery cable. I also used the other key. Also it seems when it warms up and gets driven it don’t start. But when it cools it seems to start again. I’m stumped! Any pointers??

@@JavierLopez-zd3gl yes I tried it didn’t work for me. Found out it was a common defect and Ford knew about the crap transmission design. They have a voluntary recall if the car is under 150,000 miles for the transmission control module. I ended up getting one from a junk yard and putting it in. It wasn’t hard at all. The one I pulled wasn’t tuned with my car and had to go on a computer. I drove it to a dealer and got out of it. Was a good car on MPG wish I had it still because I got a truck. But the worse part is the Ford engineers knew it was a junk design and still released it 2012-2016 I believe is the years it for focus and fiesta I believe. I think it over heats and over time the TCM stops working
Good luck if you can I would advise get rid of it. The worse part of mine is I just got brand new tires, breaks and rotors, rear shocks and new sway bar bushings put on close to $2k in work on it and a month later had those issues started and sank anoth $400 till I figured out the issue. I Got a good trade in deal only took a $500 hit on it. But now paying out the arse for Ga$ because of This clown show called The Biden Administration. Good Luck if your having issues

Thanks - finally got it to work, it’s a slightly different process on mine, much simpler. It reset but when I turn the car on it does the same thing and says transmission malfunction. Will check what Ford have to say

It'd be the same steps but you don't hit the brake when pushing the start button, it'll be in the run position, blower fan working but engine not running is the correct on position. Otherwise same procedure.
