Hi guys. These tech talks are GREAT! packed with a lot of info, thanks for sharing! Quick question: I am looking for more glide and speed and I was thinking of switching to either a 1250 Aero Free or a 1100 or 1350 Glide 2.0 and combining it with a skybrid board. Taking into account the points below, what would you advise for foil and board volume? - Rider: I am 70 kgs, I start passing my gybes most of the time, but still have difficulties riding toe side and switching feet in flight. I have a strong kitesurf background. - Conditions: wingfoil on lakes a lot of low-wind days (10-15 knots) and few decent days (up to 20-25 knots). Wind conditions can change very quickly. - Current setup: sky air 103 L, foil HA 2000 Thanks in advance for your help :-)
Hi there, so at 70kg with your current level/coming from a 2000HA - I would go to the Free 1250 to get to 100% gybe rate/learn toe-side & switches. This should be the best allrounder for your mostly lighter days but also the windier 20-25knots, as the Free can handle overpowered better than the Glide. Once you have the basics 100%, add a Glide 2.0 900 for most of your riding, that should be more than big enough for 70kg/Skybrid. 1100 Glide 2.0 also an option, but then later will be too big for higher winds/maybe still a touch too technical at first for getting those gybes 100%. Also the jump from a 2000HA straight to a Glide 2.0 1100 would be a touch too big, 1350 Glide 2.0 also has a LOT of lift, so for your weight too much. I would go with the Free 1250, then add smaller Glide 900 later.
Hi there, so currently you are on a Sky Air 103/70kg, I would say unless you plan on doing a lot of jumping, go for the Skybrid in 5'6" x 70L, that should be easily big enough for you to float. Or if you prefer to not take a big step/want a safe option, the 5'8" x 85L is perfect for getting all the basics right - this is what I ride as a light wind option (74/75kg), when I am not powered with my 65L Sky Style. My daughter also uses this board as allrounder, ca 60kg.
I am downwind SUPing in the gorge, currently on the glide 1595 and loving but looking to expand my foil quiver. My buddy is on axis and just went from their png to the spitfire 1100 and loves it. Would the Whizz 1450 or 1200 be comparable? I am 72 kg, riding 7'2" downwinder sls
I learned to SUP downwind on the Whizz 1450 and find it works great! Super low stall speed but way more manoeuvrability compared to the Glide 1595. To complement your 1595, I would say the Whizz 1200 or 1000 could be a great option.
Hello, For dockstart, how do you advise setting the mast on a 95cm pumping board with a whizz 1450? Do you put it all the way back like a classic foil or do you have to move it forward? (unfortunately I can't set it on my current board). Thanks for your help.
Hi - I tested the 1200 winging yesterday on a lagoon - loved the looseness and can see this will be great on open sea and smaller waves. Have you tried the Whizz with Foil Drive? Seems like it would be a good combination or would you suggest another foil in the range?
Hi Carl, sounds good - personally no, but I would presume the Whizz is the right combo for Foil Drive sessions- it's the prone/wave foil in our range, with the best turning/pump combo, so should work the best vs the Carve (top end better but less pump) or Glide (good pump/drive, but wider span means turning not as tight as the Whizz, at least in 1000+ wings).
Hi Lukas, yes it will work, if you have some basic downwind skills already - the Whizz has a very low stall speed, good pump/drive etc - is obviously smaller than the bigger Glide sizes, but if you are in a windier spot/have some skills then it would for sure work as an allrounder - the bigger 1450 obviously better for pure downwinding, esp beginners -but then not as a one does it all foil.
Hi. I want to replace my spirit surf 1250. maybe for both, kite and wing. Ist the whizz 1200 good for kitesurfing? And does it work with the free board 5.9 for winging?
Hi there, our best foils for combining Kite and Wing are the Carve 2.0 range. Would suggest to look at the 1100 Carve then, just remember you will need a new 3BS fuselage here due to the different foil to fuselage mounting, if you want to combine it with a DTK carbon mast - if you have an Alu mast from DTK, then you will need to unfortunately update both mast and fuselage to either the older Fanatic or new Duotone systems, either Alu or Carbon will work - the front wing to fuselage has not changed there. Free free to come back with questions on your actual hardware (mast/fuselage). The Whizz is primarily for Prone and wave use for Winging, the Carve 1100 will be a better partner for both kiting and also for your Free 5'9".
not, that is compatible for sure, no problem, as you have the SUP/Wing fuselage. I only mentioned it as you said you have the older Spirit 1250, which is the kite fuselage system.
@@duotone.wingfoiling thanks. Last question. Is the 1250 free good for kiting? Comparing to my 1250 spirit surf? Maybe the free is bether for me for both, winging and kiting.
Hi there, I would actually go for the Carve rather, it has more speed/less drag than the 1250 Free, pretty sure it will suit you. For winging it has a lot of lift and power, but this could be too much for Kiting.
Hello guys, I'm a kite foiler and have a Carve 2.0 1100 which I looove, paired with the 60 Fuse, its awesome indeed. I recently had a demo of the 1000 Whizz and ooo mama, loved it also, amazing roll, its something else man,,, so much so I'd love to get a compliment to my 1100 Carve with a Whizz. Anyway, my question regarding sizing,,,, would the 1200 Whizz be a compliment to the 1100 Carve or too similar or should another size be considered? Will the 1200 Whizz have a better bottom end so to speak. I'm a heavy dude and thinking I'd love to get a lighter winds too with small waves and with the way the Whizz performs, with its amazing rail to rail turns, I'd love your opinions on sizing? Thanks for your amazing work and I look forward to your reply!
Hi there, glad you like it - the 1200 Whizz is quite a bit more powerful than the Carve 1100 for sure, especially for kiting. Has better bottom end/lower stall speed and more pump for sure. Other option is the Carve 2.0 1400, a great light wind foil, but not as roll sensitive, which you mention you prefer, just mentioning it.
Hello Jérôme, I prone foiled the 850 a lot and it's by far the funniest wing you designed ! Is there a 700 coming soon ? As you said those wings are very lifty, for 2-3 ft waves or more the 850 feels already big.
I personally ride it mainly with the 66cm and that is what I would recommend for most riders. Our most advanced team riders are also using the 60cm fuse for maximum manoeuvrability.
Thank you. You did note that I said Wind (surf) foil? Would the Whizz or the Carve be better when using a sail rather than a wing, but still riding swell?
Oops sorry, though you meant wingfoiling. Haven't tried that to be honest, but it could be a little too loose in roll for windsurf foiling?? I would probably recommend the Carve or Glide for that, but if you get a chance to demo one, please let us know how it worked out for you.

Hi there, I would move it further forward than a normal DT foil by approx 2-3cm if possible, as this is where they work best.

They work amazing! As soon as you flag your wing, the Whizz takes over and makes it super easy to stay on the swell, with tons of manoeuvrability.
