10 sacks in his 2nd year is pretty good..especially for a guy who was NOT a Sackmaster in College. Travon has OUTRAGEOUS upside...I can see him getting 12-14 sacks this year...dude might be a MONSTER in year 4 or 5...his extreme talent definitely shows itself...
@@sweeet768 Yeah but he's been inconsistent too...would like to see him have a big game vs Pats...I noticed he was held alot by Bears and they werent calling it.
He was always a pretty good player who’s stats didn’t jump off the sheet bc teams have to assign extra blockers to him with his physical skills, it’s not coincidence that the whole Jacksonville defense started to come into there own as well as himself
With the new defensive scheme, Walker will do better. He is getting it as a pass rusher, especially at the end of the season. It is way more aggressive than Caldwell defense. The one thing people don’t get is that the run defender is not that he will get the tackle against the run or even blow up the run. It is that he never gets pushed back. During the game against the 49ers, I think CMC had two running plays with Trent leading the way against Walker, those run plays yielded little to 0 yards. Look at the opposite when they ran exclusively towards Josh Allen side and the had so much success with Trent blowing up Josh a couple of times. That alone tells you the amount of respect Offensive Coordinators have for Walker. Even later during the collapse against the Titans, Derrick Henry ran either the middle or towards Josh Allen and not at Travon.
The biggest problem in the run game was the middle. The jags DT were unable to hold a block and the running back was in the second level (against the linebackers and safeties) after like a second. Then you saw the tackling problem of the jax defender. Tackling is much harder when your interior d-line is unable to hold their gaps. On offense, we saw the exact opposite where the jax o-line was unable to open a gap for Etienne in the middle that basically destroyed the entire run game.
@@Black4Cook Exactly or at Josh Allen (not crapping on him by any means but the size difference do matter in the run defense, Travon got at least 20+ pounds on him). Travon, even when he is not pushing the pocket, is just a brick wall. He doesn’t get moved in the run game and you see it both on stats in terms of the amount of tackles (he got less tackles but it due to less people running at him this year compared to his rookie year) and the eye test, running plays don’t go to his direction.
Yeah I question that people are acting like it’s the same Joe Burrow when both major injuries he has had are at two of the worst spots you can as a qb the arm and knee
@@JamesB-mi9uu The wrist isn’t the arm… He’s the only quarterback ever have that surgery so you’re making that assumption based on literally nothing. He’s completely fine at practice. Also, he got better after the knee surgery again just a reminder ..
His bull rush can be deadly if he would just pick a shoulder instead of going for the middle of the chest everytime...I think he is trying to incorporate a swim move with the bull rush and a spin move now. That should be the only 3 moves he needs given his athleticism
Defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen who is a defensive line guru and who runs a base 4-3 defense will do wonders for Travon Walker. He’s already talked about moving guys around on the Dline to exploit matchups so having Walker play with his hand in the dirt along with playing inside against Gaurds will pay huge Dividends in my opinion.
Here's what I wrote right after he was selected first overall and I still feel the same: I worry that we will spend the first 4 years training him and we'll pick up his 5th year option and during that year he'll excel and become too expensive to re-sign. So, it's like we are training him for his next team meanwhile Hutchinson will be productive during the rookie contract and even if they can't afford to re-sign him after year 5 at least they got 5 years of good production out of him. I hope that Walker learns fast but am still very concerned about how much he'll do to help us finally win games. I'm sure he won't be as inept as Taven but our team needs people that can play well right away and can't afford to take chances on project players imo.
Trayvon walker worst skill coming out of college was his pass rush skills of the 3 DEs in that draft he was nowhere near them but he has improved a lot but right now he is a secondary pass rusher hustle player and actually being a DE and not a OLB will help
Sack numbers are surface level to an extent, the truth is he maximized the chances he got this year when he could get a sack but he didnt create as much as he should have. If he was to have the same year this year in terms of pressures he could easily end up with 2. Walker is talented but I think we have to realistically know he still has much to improve on as a run and pass defender.
Walker like you said does have impressive plays and plays where you see him just bull rushing into oblivion. He's still only 23 with all the talent in the world but he has to develop pass rush moves.
As a biased jags fan I feel like he's definitely a tad bit overrated on the run defense but is showing improvements on rushing the QB and with the addition of arik armstead & a healthy davon this will be his breakout year and pair that up with JA welcome to sacksonville 2.0

No he is pretty spot on, Walker has upside, but make no Mistakes about it Josh Allen carried a heavy load this year. Walker probably will improve more with a scheme change, but his technique leaves much to be desired.
I hate pass rush win rate with a burning passion & PFF for treating their admittedly subjective grades objectively. You either get pressure, get a sack, or not. Someone beating a tackle over & over but never getting home/pressure is functionally worthless but PFF will label that player the greatest defender of all time. It's stupid.
I could not disagree more. A simplified example, player 1 is beating the tackle everytime, but because of that the QB is getting the ball out of his hands after 2 seconds every play. Player 2 registers more sacks, but rarely beats the tackle and only gets the sacks after the QB has run around a few seconds.Clearly player 1 has impacted the game considerably more than player 2.
