Thanks so much for another opportunity to listen to this funk-tastic classic composed by Rod Temperton. Man, Thriller is perfection. As is Sugarfoot Moffett.
No doubt. just showing interspersed clips of Jonathan and the watch with the music playing the whole time, and the ultra smooth voice over saying something like, "When precision time-keeping is absolutely essential, nothing less will do. Sugarfoot Chronometers. Only the best." LOL
Best part about the Sugarfoot videos, is that a lot of his drumming are closer to the live version compared to the original. That live performance muscle memory never leaves.
I've been a drummer for like 20 years by now, I've been admiring Gavin Harrison, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Bonham, Terry Bozzio, all those freaking good drummers. I love them. But this guy....he IS fucking timing. He actually IS! This guy is so incredibly tight....it's just insane...
& a bunch of "out-of-time" wannabe drummers...Michael Jackson actually says so in the lyrics🤣 A good friend of mine does his best to emulate Moffett (& does an amazing job at that) Moffett is badass...no doubt.
Whilst correct in concert terms and the views on these videos, unfortunately he didn't play the drums on the record Jeff Porcaro and N'dugu Chancler played drums on the album, I think the drums on this track were programmed
Haha.. not even close.. He did NOT record any of MJ's songs... at all.. if you want to know who the most heard drummers ever are its not too hard: Jeff Porcaro, Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner , etc.... Moffett wouldn't even make the top 50
Beef Boss they got the Hologram of him now, they could probably make a whole bunch of money “MICHAEL JACKSON* LIVE” *Is not the actual person Michael Jackson, it is a Hologram*
I always knew it was a very complicated drum pattern, but after seeing this live played by the master.... I am stunned 😯 , its even more complicated than i imagined!!
It may look like he’s not doing a lot, but the subtle complexities of his performance takes years of dedication and discipline. Not everything has to paint the walls. Modern drummers could take notes.
I'm not a drummer but the expertise here is blowing me away. Start at about 3:01 and when the sax plays the little ascending 4 note lick and he gives this little shoulder shrug and stops EXACTLY when he needs to. It's a sight to behold. This man is literally a drumming machine.

Michael Jacksons songs are not that hard to play in general, but they take a lot of time to master. The precision and tempo of this guy is just outstanding - a living legend and a drum machine!
I wouldn't say all of that now. It all depends on the band's effort. For instance, a lot of older bands (including MJ's) could start a song at a good consistent tempo, but the last few seconds would be off by maybe 3 or 4 bpm. In fact, A LOT of groups are like that they don't have an electronic device that already has the tracking going on. Not taking away from his status or anything, but you guys have to remember that no songs were recorded in one take with no tweaks.
Have u ever heard of Mike Portnoy and other metal drummers?U surely missing a lot here bro..JM is a good drummer for pop music ,not for skilled double bass blast beats..If you shocked by his skill on Thriller drumming then you need to check more..
Lets tidy up this one, and qualify, I feckin' love the drumming of George Kollias, Nick Barker, Trym etc. etc. What we're seeing here is rock solid drumming or "in the pocket" as it's called... he makes it look easy but it's really not! This is exactly what the song needs, it's exactly what the other musicians need, it's exactly what the show needs! Maybe not shocked but you're missing it if you're not seriously impressed! 👍

@Joe Kinchicken Chill out bro jesus
I would say Omega not Rolex because Omega keeps better time
Grand Seiko would be the most accurate, no pun intended

One of the most underrated drummers in the world.... guy is a legend
Minus of being studio musician.
He went on tour with MJ th-cam.com/video/Y5PhUKzRQJc/w-d-xo.html
He's not underrated. Most pro drummers look up to him
How can a legend be underrated?
@@0radish0 Damnit!! You beat me to it. Like he said. How can you be a legend AND underrated?
I've been back here like 3 times now. This man is dazzling. Like a drum machine.
better...
@@fesswah was referring to his impeccable timing. Drum machines are boring compared.

Thanks so much for another opportunity to listen to this funk-tastic classic composed by Rod Temperton. Man, Thriller is perfection. As is Sugarfoot Moffett.
Sugarfoot could be a new brand of swiss watches.
It is a great idea!!
The problem is that the swiss watches wouldn't be able to keep time as well as the real Sugarfoot.
No doubt. just showing interspersed clips of Jonathan and the watch with the music playing the whole time, and the ultra smooth voice over saying something like, "When precision time-keeping is absolutely essential, nothing less will do. Sugarfoot Chronometers. Only the best." LOL
HAHA
No doubt supprizes me he dont have his own line of anything
Best part about the Sugarfoot videos, is that a lot of his drumming are closer to the live version compared to the original. That live performance muscle memory never leaves.
Imagine him having flashbacks of all the adventures that the crew had over the time they toured with MJ while playing this song! :3
Cristian Maldonado that’s what I was thinking about
I like to imagine that that is what he thinks of when keeping that straight face. Just all the memory before his eyes
@Big Dank Beans Is that a irony or you are stupid
@@joajelkal i think its the latter
Big Dank Beans Savage 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I come back to this every year!! Sugarfoot…you’re awesome! 🤘🏼🎃🧟♀️ 🥁
Playing like a machine. He is never looking at the drum set
He probably has played it so many times that he can do it blindfolded. You can see him knowing right exactly when to hit the crash cymbal.
@@backroomsorigin its cymbal
Happens to pretty much every regular musician! Unless I need to play weird jazz chords, I don't really need to look at the frets!
@@backroomsorigin You are a complete idiot this not a Sign symbol, it's a drum cymbal
gürkan gürler i don’t look at my drum either... I don’t know I just think it’s a musician thing... I am not saying I am close to this legend tho
His timing is so perfect and spot on he is absolutely amazing
The beginning percussion has so much movement and is so mesmerizing to listen to before the beat drops. ❤

Im fucking crying from the comments on his videos😂
Do u realize how many people this guy has rocked ? And they didn’t even know it? Possibly one of the most heard drummers ever..
Whilst correct in concert terms and the views on these videos, unfortunately he didn't play the drums on the record Jeff Porcaro and N'dugu Chancler played drums on the album, I think the drums on this track were programmed
@@BillockDotCom yeah those were computer drums or what ever
True, if i'm right he was the session drummer for Elton John as well, and i admired that hihat play in sacrifice long before i knew who he was
@@franklinclinton5967 It was a Lynndrum
Haha.. not even close.. He did NOT record any of MJ's songs... at all.. if you want to know who the most heard drummers ever are its not too hard: Jeff Porcaro, Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner , etc.... Moffett wouldn't even make the top 50
I always assumed this was a drum machine bc it's so perfect....now I'm blown away
So crisp and so clean, he must have performed this over a thousand times.
He did. He’s performed in concerts , tours and Michael’s upcoming concert This is it

You can see the passion in his eyes when he hopped back on the drums. The nostalgia must’ve hit this dude big time.
Yes it it's from the Linn drum machine
I always knew it was a very complicated drum pattern, but after seeing this live played by the master.... I am stunned 😯 , its even more complicated than i imagined!!
It may look like he’s not doing a lot, but the subtle complexities of his performance takes years of dedication and discipline. Not everything has to paint the walls. Modern drummers could take notes.
Its a percussion thing. They may never get it. Less is more sometimes...I agree with you.

Anyone here is talking about how perfect his rhythm but the guy in the background banging his head like a metronome
I´m too!
So I am not the only one who noticed it
Insane not much more to say never heard of him before but I do now Jackson will live on with him on the drums.
I'm not a drummer but the expertise here is blowing me away. Start at about 3:01 and when the sax plays the little ascending 4 note lick and he gives this little shoulder shrug and stops EXACTLY when he needs to. It's a sight to behold. This man is literally a drumming machine.
Iconic,,,beautiful drumming,,,🇨🇼🇩🇲🇨🇦
That was smoooth as butter
Playing for Mike and Quincy, you MUST be able to do that. But sheet music ensures that he stops precisely. Studio Musicians get paid. :)
Yes, his shoulders shrug and my jaw drops. Talk about in the pocket.

The voice & Synths
The arrest in the beat.
This is incredible talent, so clean and smooth. What an elite drummer
Michael Jacksons songs are not that hard to play in general, but they take a lot of time to master. The precision and tempo of this guy is just outstanding - a living legend and a drum machine!
BoardSports Jajaja do you plays the beat it solo?
I wouldn't say all of that now. It all depends on the band's effort. For instance, a lot of older bands (including MJ's) could start a song at a good consistent tempo, but the last few seconds would be off by maybe 3 or 4 bpm. In fact, A LOT of groups are like that they don't have an electronic device that already has the tracking going on. Not taking away from his status or anything, but you guys have to remember that no songs were recorded in one take with no tweaks.
Well, I am pretty sure this is not even the studio version. The studio version is much simpler
the good thing is that even a metronome uses Sugarfoot to practice timing....
I can’t play real instruments but the “Beat it” drums were nearly impossible to play on rock band on Xbox 360
This is the difference between a “drummer,” and a “professional musician.”
This is the difference between people like Travis Barker who just bang the shit out of the kit and a true pro.
Have u ever heard of Mike Portnoy and other metal drummers?U surely missing a lot here bro..JM is a good drummer for pop music ,not for skilled double bass blast beats..If you shocked by his skill on Thriller drumming then you need to check more..
There’s more than one way to play an instrument.
@@pavlost83 Do you really think that J. Moffett can not play rock with double bass ??? You're stupid moron
