I feel like the theme is luring us into the game with a promise of grand adventure while at the same time tries to warn us for our infinite demise is right behind the start button. But damn, the most epic main menu theme Ive ever heard. Btw, the singer is Yuka Kitamura.
The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC has the boss theme that does the best at screaming "this is the end". Dark Souls 3 has the title theme that does the best at screaming "this is the end".
I'm gonna say it's a tie. DS3 and Bloodborne are both filled with bangers. Lady Maria's theme being a waltz of death, DS3 and Gael (midir too) being grand, soaring tracks of tragedy and violence.
elden ring got better one by far, ost from ds3 are like all the same, in elden u got religion like godskin, mystic with ancestor spirit, bestial with godfrey thye are more uniques
I remember the first time I opened this game I was just shocked in such wonderfulness while listening to this intro. When I beat the first time and listened to it again right after the credits end and the main menu appears, tears came like a river. I had to start a new game right after. I had to. I really recommend "Slave Knight Gael" next. It combines so well with the main theme. Even so, imo you started with the Magnum Opus of all Dark Souls series.
I have to confess. Every time I open that game I have to stop and listen to the main menu theme. It completes the vibes of the game and pace incredibly well with how you experience the game properly. It's a physical journey, a musical journey, and a personal journey all in one game. Every little detail gets really specially purposed down from lore, weaknesses, and even in the songs to bosses, and it's all more storytelling in that way. Songs like the final boss's would reference the final boss of the 1st game's song, and the experienced player would hear that with absolute chills, knowing what that really means. Everybody knows that plin plin plon leitmotif.
You HAVE to do Slave Knight Gael next! It fits into this very well. One thing that is worth mentioning with Dark Souls OST is that the songs references other songs from both the same game, but also the other games. If you are going to react to Slave Knight Gael next, then you might find some similarities between it and this.
Thats an understatement of how good the compositions are. If you know enough music theory you can learn the boss's stories and motives by just hearing it.
So if no one else has mentioned it, this track was originally meant for a boss (Pontiff Sullyvan) but was later repurposed for the main theme when that boss was downgraded from endgame to midgame.
Makes sense that the Pontiff was originally an endgame boss. Lots of little details in DS3 seem to point towards him being the "main villain" of the game (tho ofc some of it could just be repurposed assets); he was the first Scholar, a mentor to Prince Lothric and thus also the one that managed to convince the prince to not link the First Flame, prompting the resurrection of Lords of Cinder, and ultimately the embers that awaken us, the Ashen One, in a desperate attempt at prolonging the Age of Fire.
Imo, this theme is way too grandiose and big for Pontiff. The theme they settled on for him seems better for his vibe. Maybe that’s cuz I never played the game with this as his theme tho…
@@naudio1806 I didn't know that, that makes more sense. Listening to it now, I can see this being more Pontiff's speed/vibe. Likely then, that when this theme got repurposed, Yuka decided to make it more bombastic (and also cut down the length a bit) as a title theme. From my uninformed perspective, this makes a lot more sense than a literal copy paste from Final boss Pontiff to Title Track. thanks for the info!
That thing about a greater and a bigger universe that he was talking about, is exactly how I feel about the souls series. How the fuck is he so good about extracting stuff from songs?
@@Ghorda9^^^^^This. Music is a unique language that I wish more people were willing to learn. If violence is a universal language, then art is the other side of that coin.
It's so cool to see other people expanding their musical knowledge via these games that offer more than just a fun experience but also a music piece that (within the context of the game) tells a story of its own. Hopefully, you will be reacting to more of the Darksouls, Bloodborne & Eldenring games OSTs♪ . They are quite a treat for lovers of Music♪
THX for reacting to this Knox ! i finished the souls serie a couple of times! And i never get tired of listening to this masterpiece of an OST. It Just sounds amazing to the ears !
I really REALLY want to see you react to Darkeater Midir's theme. Probably the most beautifully designed OST in the game. There are of course many contenders.
DS3 was my first entry into the Soulsborn library. I watched my sister play 1 off and on and KNEW they were hard... When you said you'd be afraid to press the button after this theme... It's funny, I had the SAME reaction. This song PERFECTLY sets the tone for what you are about to get into.
it's really nice to see that you're interested in the souls ost, there's a lot of good soundtrack... it's worth remembering that boss songs mostly have 2 beats, so if the music changes rhythm.. it's probably the sound of the next boss phase
The thing that's always cool to me about these themes, and especially the Elden Ring theme, is there is an overwhelmingly menacing tone but there's also a subtle bit of hope in there. The way I think of it is it makes me feel like things are really bleak but there's something heroic about standing against all that. That's what these themes convey to me, there's heroism in standing up in the face of unbeatable odds. Given the type of game it is the soundtrack is so fitting.
I remember when I got Demon Souls free on the Playstation Store...didn't know that you're expected to die in that first boss fight. Felt like an idiot. Haven't tried any of the Dark Souls games, love the music, though!
You listened to a video game opening on the last live, too. To Zanarkand. FFX. Love the FF music, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed, Warcraft...game soundtracks are pretty awesome.

Most of the Dark Soul 3 bosses have great OSTs and you can somehow can ‘feel’ the story through it Only four bosses do not match the OSTs or just are relatively weak compared to other OSTs
One of the things I have always noticed with these music/theme react videos are they pause like 10-15 times in between the music. Can't they just listen to the whole thing first and maybe then give their opinions. Would love to see their uninterrupted reactions for a change.
