I was a kid, 11 years old in 1988, carrying a ghetto blaster around and this came on the radio. I had never heard anything like that bass. I still remember the DJ at the end saying it was "Jolly Roger" and I remembered it all my life. Skip forward more than 30 years and that's around when I found it again on here. I am pretty sure I can trace my love of dance music back to this track, it was like I decided there and then in 1988, I need to find more stuff like this. The rest is history... along came hardcore, jungle, drum and bass etc. 1991 to 1994 were the best years, then it all just died off.
There is nearly almost always an awakening track that just grabs you and i'm going say that was that moment for you, Also you know your sounds because we didn't learn our lessons re; Tempo and that made the scene fizzle out before it should . Still got the memories though nice one for sharing yours !
Back the day we all wearing braces & clogs, dancing to soul & ska musics and this came on then were all all about the new youth revoultion. But we kept the braces and clogs but started dancing in a different way, maybe faster or more different.
That's it ya'll 1988. In the Star Club in Ibiza with me mates. Saw one girl dancing to this on her own like a chicken. Everyone in the club crowded around her like she was nuts. We were not sure whether to laugh or be intrigued. Anyway, the way she was dancing became the norm. Es Paradise was the Swedish club next door that they flooded with water/foam. Other clubs at the time were Playboy 1 and Playboy 2. These were German nightclubs in the old town and were great too - if a little more reserved. Anyone remember?
And this and others started me off to warehouse and free festivals and rave. I'd started way back at 13 with electro...went thru the whole transition to hip hop/dance(electronic and samples) to house (housenation was first house track I ever heard and I was hooked) then on to acid then rave....was happy days..I was sweet 16 as hip hop turned to electronic to house to acid at 18 to rave at 19. What a time to be alive..and we were alive...happy daze.

summer 1988. you just cant replicate that era ever again . a unique moment in time . now dated but the memories live on .
