The twisted thing is that the Japanese public is a-OK with their taxpayer dowry going to some millionaire who doesn't need it but not to a commoner who actually needs it. Because remember, that dowry was gonna go to whoever she's marrying anyway.
I think it's the idea like the commoner is marrying for the dowry and has no ability to support the princess while the millionaire definitely don't need to the million to support the princess.
I would definitely think of the man as a gold digger if he didn't get a proper job and just took the dowry. I am happy he got a job. It shows he had good intentions

She didn't mention it, but I read that Kei was failed his bar exam twice, that also fueled Japanese anger.
I think the problem is that he hasn't proven himself and failed the bar exam multiple times.

I was the “commoner” in my relationship with my ex. We knew from the get go it would be impossible for us to end up together. It can only happen if he choose me and leave his entire family or keep our relationship a secret forever. I did wish he would have choosen me over his family but I think he made the right choice of not doing so cause it would be a HUGE lost for him. He has a good relationship with his family but they just follow certain things strictly. What I learned from this experience is if you know there’s little chance you’d be allow to be together/marry someone don’t start a relationship with them or leave/avoid it when you feel like you’re starting to catch feelings. I don’t have regrets though.

Mako is smart. She left the royal responsibilities but is still enjoying the financial and connection perks.
The Princess is dignified, yearned for normalcy and chose to lead the life she needed for REAL privacy. His mother was problematic, but she is grounded and smart.
As a Japanese I’m happy for princess mako she really want a normal life away from strict rules of being a royal , but yeah Japan really is kinda going downhill and people are aware of that ! the government recently change the legal age from 21 to 18 years old, now Kids who are still in 3rd year high school or freshly graduated are obligated to pay the same mandatory tax pensions and insurances that an adult would.
Imagine finding the love of your life and everyone is hating on your relationship and you have to apologize that you’re in love when you’re doing nothing absolutely wrong. Sheesh. Glad she got out of there. I hope they stay happy and keep loving each other throughout all the future struggles.

Until the birth of the still VERY young Prince Hisahito, Japan was starting to think they were going to have a Empress for the first time instead of an Emperor because the royal family were having only daughters. And all the male heirs were getting older, the next in line is literally in his late 50’s, nearly 60’s aka Mako’s father. They were debating on whether or not they would crown Princess Aiko, the Emperor’s daughter, as next in line as the emperor did have any sons and his brother, the crown prince also had no sons. Then Prince Hisahito was born in 2006, and he is literally the last resort for heirs. He is 16 right now, third in line for the throne and after him? Fourth in line and as of right now, last in line because of the lack of men in the family, is Prince Hitachi who is *87 years old*
I hope Japan changes it’s rules soon because they are literally going to lose their royal family due to prejudices. There are six more heirs in line if they let the princesses be accepted in as heirs and it secures the line and family more if they do so. If they want to survive then they have to think about it wisely.
I feel bad for the young prince. I can’t imagine what it feels like to literally have the royal family bloodline depend on you. I hope the public scrutiny and pressure isn’t taking too much of a toll on him.
It’s a matter of culture, when a woman marries in japanese culture, she then belongs to the husband’s family, so when princesses marry, they no longer belong to the imperial family.

In the British family tree video, they usually go back through the family tree to find a boy. In the cass of the brother having no kids, they would go back to the grandpa's brothers kids. One video I watched said that royal family traces directly back to whatever founding sun god they worshipped so the male line is very very important.

my mom is japanese and she definitely had strong opinions about kei. i also don’t know how to feel about him since he left her when she was most vulnerable, but then again we don’t know these people. 😅 it’s just a different culture there where the status quo and customs are very important.
actually it’s the government that sent him to go studied abroad and didn’t allowed him to comeback within those years because people are hating on them (mom) and the government wanted to let the scandal die down. And second all men that marries the Japanese royal need to have a steady job( high paid job) to support the family. Mostly, if Kei wasn’t hated and everything went well the government will give him a position to any company he works for. In this case he wants to be a lawyer however he couldn’t do it in Japan since most people disagree with him so the government decided to send him to the country he chooses from and needed to pass the bar exam to be available to come back to Japan to marry the princess. That is why he came back 3 years later when he took the bar exam( even though the results haven’t announced yet) to marry the princess because the government allowed it and thought that he will pass the exam.
but him staying isn't gonna help her, might as well get your law license so he can support her when they leave.

I actually think that Kei made the right move of studying law abroad. The two of them must have foresaw what could happen so their plan ended up with Princess enduring the backlash while Kei is studying. So once they get married, at least they have some careers to proceed.

So even though she's the only child of the current Emperor, she would get passed over for her younger male cousin. Another nuance: the level of hysteria surrounding this was so stupid. Kei grew a ponytail at law school and came back with it, and it was a front page scandal.
Her parents kept delaying the wedding due to lack of public support too. So she was essentially forced to elope because she didn't have government permission to dispense the funds.
There were also a huge number of people calling them cowards and traitors for leaving Japan. The lack of self awareness is ridiculous

I don't really see this as an amazing love story. If losing their royal title is guaranteed upon marriage then we can't really say she gave up her title for her husband. Basically royals have 2 sets of parents, their actual birth mum and dad and then the public, so this's just a case of birth mum and dad kinda being okay with your betrothed and the public not liking them which is common amongst non royals. I wonder if they'll ask the women to consider taking up their title again once they realise how impractical their current system is.

It was actually the South Korean president Sigmund rhee who ended the Korean monarch not Japan.
Infact Japan gave sanctuary to the last crown prince of Korea, Crown prince Yi un who than was arranged to marry to the royal Japanese Princess masako of Nashimoto who was born a princess into the Japanese royal family who married the Korean royal crown prince .
The crown prince of Korea Yi un went to school in Japan Gakushin university and was half Japanese. The last Royal family of Korea had Japanese bloodlines like crown prince Yi ku the son of prince Yi un & princess Nashimoto.
So you can thank the Communist of North Korea and the government of democratic South Korea for ending the Korean monarch which had nothing to do with Japan.
