Unsurprisingly this characteristic has been reduced significantly on the studio recording of the song, where the notes are not as sharp and the final product is thankfully much more listenable, yet still keeps that off-key style. I agree that she's untrained, and of course people can have their criticisms about her voice, but whether or not she's "trained" is of little relevance to this band and the broader context of indie rock as a whole. This kind of music is historically about imperfection and emotional potency. In my view, people are missing the point by discussing technical merit, in the same way they would be in discussing whether or not the Velvet Underground could play their instruments. Who cares? The music does what it's supposed to do, and that is to elicit emotion.@@polybius22
