You can tell she's more bitter and grumpy than anything else because of how when Izzy found her cave, all Allura did was wipe her memory and send her away. No harm, no attack, no vengeance, just a "go away and leave me alone"
...poor kitty needs pets and hugs

While it was never explicitly stated that Allura desired domination, and Tell Your Tale definitely leaned away from that direction, it was more than implied that this was her goal in Secrets of Starlight. To quote her directly, "Now I can use this star to open any portal and go to whichever realm I desire."
Yes, it's intentionally left vague because she wasn't meant to be sympathetic at this point. But at the same time, it made her seem a lot more evil than she would turn out to be in Tell Your Tale Season 2. This is why I say that, as wonderful of an episode as Secrets of Starlight is, it hasn't aged the best from a narrative standpoint.

FREEDOM to move herself (and others, but only by their own will) through all spacetime; that is what she desires.
Behavior Analysis: She could have had chosen to live INSIDE the auroricorn village at Starlight Ridge... but she choose NOT to do so.
. She came back regulary to "refresh" her Geas Spells; then went out (she is NOT interested in "Command & Conquer"; but rather "Task & Enforce).
-> Deep down, she respects the Auroricorns desire for self-determination (how they live, with who, where, what culture/rites they perform).
She will NOT crown herself "The Ruler of "×" (place)"; at best would just came to "collect taxes" [she would be ideal for it]; with her brother instead being the "Emperor of all Realms" she serves with undying loyalty [Twitch would be The Jester (he is actually talented in use of disguises & dancing).

I couldn’t agree more. Allura made a decision that resulted in her becoming separated from someone she loved; her brother. And because of this, she’s a foreigner in a world that is unfamiliar to her and the locals, Sunny and her friends, have been less than friendly to her. Especially after how they stopped her and interfered with her plan in Starlight and unintentionally went from there. Even after that fiasco, she just wanted to get back home and is scared and confused in a world full of ponies. Anyways, another great video and well said, Hawk. Also, get well soon. Hoof to heart! 😎🐴😎🐴

It goes without saying that thanks to Hasbro we'll never get to see Allura's full arc in the G5 series. They waited until the last minute to give her any hope of her being a redeemable villain, Because all she really ever wanted was to reunite with her brother.
And we obviously won't get to see that happen in the tv series and we most likely won't see it happen in the G5 comics either, So we'll have to make due with making Allura's story continue with fanfictions and such.

I agree with you on everything you said about Allura. She was the best villain we ever had. She seemed evil at first with her big introduction special, as most villains and antagonists are always viewed that way at the first sight of meeting them. She was possibly going to be the absolute best villain we have ever had, and a lot of us can all agree on that, from what we have all seen from her. She was definitely much better than Opaline, that is for sure. No doubt about that. There is nothing that can change that.
All the words of Allura's powers in that special: hypnotize, entrance, brainwash, mind control, mesmerize, manipulate, persuade, all of the words to describe her power of “purr-suasion” spell. Which is also a nice little pun for persuasion, because she is a feline creature.
I know that I have said before about how she can take control of others a lot of times before, but again, that showed how much I loved that from her. Controlling the Auroricorns, the main cast, and how she made them all talk in that placidly tone of voice, while also having those creepy smiles on their faces really showed us all an amazing villain. How she can erase someone's memory like she did with Izzy was awesome, and it made you wonder what else she can do with her hypnosis powers. She was able to do that through her mouth, paws, or eye contract from the looks of it. Again, hypnotic villains are my favorite. But I also love those with good backstories to tell us. She had a great one that we all really wanted to see more of, and it was just getting started. But due to Chris Cocks, now we won't get to!
She was also a different kind of creature that we have never seen before either, so it just made her even more awesome. She was just so magnificent, amazing, unique, fascinating, exciting, incredible, one-of-a-kind, interesting, but also with her snow powers, powerful and dangerous. She was very threatening, and she was meant to be that way. She really stood out from other villains. Not just with hypnosis, but also with her other powers of snow and ice. A flying snow leopard was a first for MLP, and I loved how creative the team was being in making her as a character, and also a villain. A new and different kind of antagonist that was meant to bring something brand new to the franchise, and to also make them really stand out on their own, as that is what it seemed like when she was introduced. She was shown to be a threat that was both tangible and believable, as that was what the creative team wanted with her.
She was able to make anything with ice and snow really from what we saw, including making giant waves of snow, giant icicles, anything around her turn to ice, throw ice objects, and crush them as well, and also when she trapped Izzy in a giant snow globe. The possibilities were endless with her powers. We have seen all that she was capable of, and more of it was to come later on to see what else she can do.
We all wanted to see if she was going to be reformed, and get back home, especially after what we saw from her. Unlike Opaline, who was just evil, and had no backstory to make us understand why she is like this, Allura seemed to have one, like Tempest in the 2017 movie. Allura seemed to have a great one, and if a villain has one where you understand them, and get why they are like this, you feel pity and empathy for them, and feel sorry for them, and want things to get better for them. You understand everything. They become tragic, and their motivations are rooted in a very sympathetic way. You feel sympathy for them as well. The origin tells you all that you need to know about the character that it is about.
Allura had a reason for why she was like this, and you felt bad for her, sure what she did at first was pretty evil, but it also showed us how desperate she was to get back home. She seemed like a power-hungry tyrant at first, but really, she is not, she is just a misunderstood creature. She does have kindness, like how she cares for Twitch, whereas most villains do not care for anyone but themselves, like Opaline, and she got what she deserved in the end, for sure. That was satisfying, especially when Sparky defeated her, after she almost killed him.
They were probably going to do that in the end with her, and get a happy ending, but now we won't get to see it, and it is very crestfallen for everyone. It was all meant to be a great story for her character. Most villains do not get a good ending for their character arcs, but she was probably going to get it, which would have made her an even better character. She would have gotten a satisfying ending herself, but in a good way, a happy one, which most villains do not get. She was really just a broken character that needed fixing. It really hurts us all when you really think about it. She had a motivation, and it seemed like she lost it all later on. But she was going to most likely get the motivation back later on when it would seem like she would forever lose it, and she would just give up all of the hope that she had left. She needed it to keep on trying and going. Rooting for a villain's motivation like this, is something we would usually never do, but wow, this had a different effect on us, as we all saw it from her point of view, and we understand it all. Everything became all clear to us all right away. That is so rare to happen with someone who is not a good character. That was a magnificent turn of events in my opinion.
She was also very realistic after what we saw, about how she was angry and upset at others, and it seemed like she would never get back home and would have to spend the rest of her life stranded in a place where she does not want to be in, or to be wanted by others. Because she was different from them all, and she was viewed as a dangerous villain by everyone there. Her theme about family was like how it was with the other characters in this generation, if they were main characters, or supporting characters. It did excel extremely well. It was really impressive, even for a villain. So, protagonists and antagonists can have some things in common like this. Stuff like this really can hit you hard, and it can also change your view on someone right away, like immediately, and you may never look at them the same way again, good or bad. Your old view on them is replaced with the new one forever.
Enslaving others was a bad image for her, but again, she was just trying to get back home after who-knows-how-long. It was nefarious, but again, she had a reason that no one else knew about, and that is why everyone viewed her that way as a monster, and a bully in the first place. What we saw was underlying everything about her character for sure. But now we all understand her and felt sorry for her. Her animosity towards Izzy and the others may have gone away in the end if they were going to find a way to help her. There was hope for her to change and grow as a character, and that could have helped her in the end. Sure, it all seemed hopeless for her, but really, it was not. Her ice-cold heart was really not heartless at all. Her empathy for Twitch showed us all that. And maybe the others would have seen that as well later on. She would have done anything to get back home to her family and brother, if she had parents, we would have liked to have seen them, and any other friends she possibly had, same creature or not.
She did have a journey towards being reformed, and that is something that most villains do not have. It was a realistic path for her to later follow, with some help from others. She was just a really desperate character, and like they all say, desperate times calls for desperate measures, and she was in that situation. Extremely important for her. It is all explained in an instant to everyone.
Shame we won't get to see her ending now, as we all wanted to see it, and where she came from. The name of her home, the creatures there, what they were all capable of doing with their powers, similar or different, ice and snow as well, maybe, or maybe not.
I said a lot, I know, but I am just trying to express my feelings like you are. We are sad that her arc along with everyone else will forever me unfinished. But again, this is all Chris Cocks, fault! And I will have a lot to say about him later on when the right time comes. Believe me on that.
Once again, goodbye Allura. Everything was meant to be amazing and make you the absolute best villain in MLP, but due to a certain toxic someone, a certain CEO, you were treated so badly like this. Along with everyone else in the end. Farewell.

I forgot to say, we do not know how often Allura was going to show up. And when she did, what was she going to do. Hypnotize others, attack others with her ice and snow powers, and what she would do with them?
How often she even would hypnotize others, even if it was not going to happen that much, and also be very short, I still would have enjoyed it. As for why she would do that to hypnotize and control others would have been interesting to see why, if she had a reason. She had a reason before when she was introduced, but now, hypnotizing others may not have been too helpful at times, and maybe for no reason for her to do that.
If she were to come out, and others see her and panic, it would have been entertaining to see that. Their reactions would have been very entertaining indeed.
If she were to attack anyone for some reason, what else was she going to do with her snow and ice powers? And why would she even attack them?
Freeze others in place, trap them in ice, create ice walls to stop them from leaving? Again, the possibilities with her were just endless when it came to her powers. You never would know what she would do next.
If she does not want to be viewed as a monster, as we saw in her song, then maybe she would not do that too often, unless for a certain reason why she would do it.
Again, with a character like her, there was just no way to predict what was going to happen next. That is another trait from an awesome villain. You want them to be unpredictable, so it will surprise you when they next take action, and they show up, and you see what they are about to do next. That makes a great villain, and also a great show.

[What IF]: Twitch went into the "Tiny Trot" dimension & attempted to do "The Run" challenge (getting stuck, alone); or simply "tested" the beds & fall asleep.
THEN: After a few hours, Allura's fear of losing "another sibling" again pushed her to go through that portal (after a minor hesitation, given that EVERY TIME she used a portal her situation became worse).
-> She becomes even younger than she was went she lost Alterro.
After finding Twitch, she realized that she can not talk properly, for the amusement of the rabbit (who is now also "The Big One" by a literal inch).
-> Even her powers are limited to just snow (not ice); because of the "safety guidelines" of the dimension.
By Twitch's request, they complete all challenges before getting out.
-> She is conpletely "de-stressed" & somewhat happy; promising him that they will come back some other night.

The one problem with Allura is that her introduction in 'Secrets of Starlight' was very... generic? Opaline was clearly meant to be a power-hungry 'evil for the sake of evil' villain, and Allura initially seemed like she was going down that direction too. So I think a lot of people wrote her off as just 'Opaline 2.0'. Her goal in SoS was kept ambiguous, so I won't say that the writers 'changed their minds' regarding her, but I will say that I can see why someone would think that.
I'm speaking from experience here because I myself saw her as just 'generic power-hungry villain' at first, until Tell Your Tale dropped 'No Place Like Home' and suddenly my perspective on her turned around. Which very well could have been intentional. It's a fantastic story that got treated horrifically, given a 'generic' start in MYM, having to be finished in TYT, the *massive* gaps in-between Allura appearances, and now the abrupt ending just as it was starting. So either you gave up on the story because it was taking so long, or you stuck with it and get disappointed that it ended so abruptly. Just another sign that G5 has been horribly mistreated.

A Hawk Nightwing take I actually (somewhat) agree with? What is the world coming to?
In terms of villain backstories, either Allura or Sombra is the best (speaking of which, when you used Sombra as an example of a villain who's evil for the sake of being evil, that hurt my soul. Sombra has one of the most tragic backstories in MLP, rivaled only by Radiant Hope and Nightmare Knights Daybreaker, one of whom was a hero and the other an anti-hero)
However, I do not agree with the take that she is MLP's best villain. That title will remain with Tirek forever (really though, it's just her lackluster performance in Secrets of Starlight and the fact that her story will never conclude that keep her from being a contender). Although she has definitely overtaken Sprout as the best G5 villain (Allura is A tier, arguably S tier, Sprout is B tier, and Opaline is D tier)
In defense of Tempest Shadow: her philosophy aligned pretty well with the Storm King's and the only reason she was even in his service was because of the Storm King's false promises. Both of them preached about not relying on others while doing exactly that (Tempest to the Storm King, the Storm King to his original second-in-command, Strife), and were taken completely off guard when they were betrayed (Strife teamed up with Captain Celaeno to overthrow the Storm King, and for that he was executed and replaced by Grubber)
Plus, thanks to the Tempest's Tale comic arc, Tempest Shadow holds the title of best MLP redemption arc (as much as it pains me to say that as a Sunset Shimmer fan, Sunset's initial reformation was more rushed than MYM Chapter 1)

I think best villains in my opinion are those that go all out evil in charisma, ambition and feats. Allura in my opinion had none of those.

Allura was just brilliant, excellent, and almost perfect as a villain. There are just so many words to describe her. They were mostly going to do to her somethings that most villains do not get.
Sometimes it is obvious what will happen to certain villains. Like with Opaline, we knew she was going to be defeated in the end. Sparky defeating her was a nice turn of events, instead of Sunny being the hero, as she was the main protagonist against the main antagonist. Sparky got revenge on her for almost killing him, and it really was just the perfect revenge and karma. Her defeat was really done in the best way possible in my opinion.
However, with Allura, we would not know what was going to happen next with her, or what was going to happen when she showed up. Or even how it was going to end for her.
We need that with villains sometimes, as that is what also makes such a great show from those types of characters.
Opaline did not do that much to show off her power, until near the end. We saw a little bit of it at sometimes, but when she absorbed Sparky's dragon fire, she got to show off her true powers, and not just the little bits of other magic she can do.
Also, yes, she did control the dragons, like how Allura can control others as well. But that was only possible for her, due to the dragon stone, and that was also at the very end. Allura had that power to control others all the time, at any time that she wanted to, as we all saw her do that right away when she was introduced. And she was doing that for a long time probably.
Also, I liked how Opaline was a fire villain, and Allura was an ice villain. It all went from hot to cold, just like that, and so fast.
One turned up the heat, and then the next one made it chilly.
They both had sidekicks. Opaline had Misty, who she was abusive towards, and then she turned against her when she found true friendship from the others, and became one of the group's members, as she should have done that. And Allura had Twitch, who she did care for, and they would both stay together.
One was never going to be reformed, while the other one had a chance for it in the end.
One cared about no one but herself, while the other one did care for someone else.
Going from one villain that controlled certain creatures, to another that can control anyone.
And the way that Allura made them stomp and march in unison, in lockstep, like that was also creepy as well, even if it was just in that one shot, before they just walked differently afterwards. Them surrounding Sunny and Violet like that was also unpleasant to see, along with those creepy smiles and laughs, without even blinking either. I forgot to mention that.
Opaline controlling the dragons was not as creepy, but it was still entertaining to watch. Even Spike got controlled for a bit. And she did not make them do anything in unison either.
They both controlled Sunny's allies for a bit, but when they did, it was different.
When Allura controlled them, they talked in a placidly tone of voice. It was not like that when Opaline controlled Lava and Jade.
One had a sad backstory, and one did not.
We knew where one was from, but not the other, well at the time, we were most likely going to find out later on, and maybe see both places. One we were going to discover at some point, and we all know which one that was going to be.
One had a sibling, and one did not.
One was pure evil, even admitting it, while the other one was not evil, just misunderstood by everyone else, and they all viewed her that way, from how they all would look at her from their point of view.
See all the differences between the two villains here? They were trying to do a little reverse thing here with them, and I like that. I may have missed a few more, but you get the point here, as there are a lot to say about this between the two of them. I could say more about them, but still, you get it. They were both intimidating though. Villains should be frightening. Sometimes even terrorizing.
Shame that this had to happen, so we will all never know now if Allura was going to be reformed or not. But she definitely had a chance for it to happen to her in the end.

One has a fiery temper with power of flame, the other has a chilling demeanor with the power of ice.
One is from the ancient past (thus relating to time) while the other is from a realm beyond equestria (relating to space).
One is surrounded by the legacy of the past by being an iconic, powerful species we all know (an alicorn) while having relationships to established characters and species( Celestia, Luna, Twilight and the dragons as a whole). The other is a new species, which reflects how the show is delving into new ideas with the auroracorns (and realms as a whole).

Their voice tones also reflect their powers and personalities. Ice is chilling, and fire is hot tempered. Both scary, horrifying, and frightening, but in a different way to show it from a different kind of villain, from different types of creatures, with opposite goals, ambitions, desires, powers, basically anything, or everything that is different from the two of them. I just watched the finale of Tell Your Tale and it was weird! I did not see Alura there she was not defeated! Unlike Opaline she did not go inside the tree! Nothing happens to her she wasn't reformed or jailed or killed! I think Alura is the 1st villain in the history of Equestria that actually won and defeated the heroes of Equestria! So does this mean Alura is still on the loose?

    • @X-stone3336
      @X-stone3336 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Nope it means the show got cancelled so we don't know who "won".
And also what are the requirements for the ponies and Allura to win? For the ponies to win they need to get rid of Allura. And for Allura to win, she has to get back home. So they kinda intertwine.
If the show wasn't cancelled it would've probably got to the point Allura and Twitch get back home and the ponies are left alone, which would be a win-win situation. But alas, the show is cancelled...maybe the comics will finish the arc?

Opaline wasn't just a Classic Villain... SHE AS BORING! The only interesting parts of her was her dynamic with Misty as a unhealthy mother figure ... the show flip-flopped on her being a card carrying villain who knew she was evil and was fine with that, and having a MOTVATION for what she was doing. Opaline was just bad writing!

When I first watched "No Place Like Home" and listened to "find my way back" I thought that she was consciously downplaying her actions to the viewers which i didn't like (because of the nonsensical fourth wall break). But now that you pointed out that her moral compass might be broken/undeveloped because she was separated from her family when she was young, shines a new light on things.
I actually don't know how to feel about the execution of this because the plot doesn't say this outright and it lets you think that the TYT writers haven't watched MYM (which they probably haven't, because in one if the icy memories we see Allura has the nova charm as a necklace and not like a totem in an ice cage. Maybe TYT and MYM are not the same universe?) and you have to look at things carefully to make a logical explanation, which is cool and bad at the same time.
Anyway I don't find Stygians motive to be that good. He gets shunned because he tried to make perfect copies of the other pillars' items. Why would he do that?! They're useless! And why didn't he talk with them, explaining what he did?

While I have trouble justifying Allura's personality being different in Make Your Mark, I have a theory about the Nova Charm in Make Your Mark. Yes, she had it to begin with, which is how she ended up in Starlight Ridge. However, throughout the many dangers she faced, one incident would lead her to lose the Nova Charm, only for it to eventually be found by the Auroracorns that led Starlight Ridge at the time.
Perhaps the Nova Charm had no distinct name before they found it, but they didn't know its purpose or who it belonged to. They decided to just take it for themselves to use as a sign of their leadership. And because Allura ended up in Starlight Ridge when she was a cub, she had been driven to desperate measures to get home, but she had lost the Nova Charm so long ago that she completely forgot what it was in the first place. And it doesn't help that the Auroracorns sealed the Nova Charm inside of a completely different container. She just vaguely remembered its shape, and assumed it was a star.
Again, only thing I don't understand is why she was portrayed as wanting to travel to anywhere she wanted, implying plans for global donation, when her actual goals were to return home.

    • @X-stone3336
      @X-stone3336 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@SmokeTheHorsehog I don't think she had it originally.
Yeah she's playing with what looks to be the nova charm, but it doesn't travel with her. The item stays with Alterro.
Another thing is we don't know how the charm works. It can work on command as seen in that one TYT episode where the united 6 (the G5 mane 6. That's how I differentiate them from the G4 mane 6) goes to the Starlight Ridge crystal ball but it can also work without an input by somebody as seen in the "The Blockywockys" special. There very well could be multiple nova charms and the one that Alterro has might've used all of its magic.
Also we don't know where starlight ridge and Allura's home is located. Starlight ridge could be located in Equestria and Allura's home might be in another dimension.
