Several of Louise's best solos never made it from demo/b side to album. Maybe she was afraid of showing off too much? Anyway, this one from the 1993 demo titled 'Halloween Day' was my favorite: th-cam.com/video/S1YOqLNBVg0/w-d-xo.html
My last two years of college at Columbia College in Chicago. Music business major. Got to load in for them when they went on tour on their first album. My labs were at my professors, studio, Chicago Dress Rehearsal studio. She said we would he loading out for a National act. We saw all the boxes stenciled with “Veruca Salt” on them. We freaked out (well the three of us they were way into them! ). Then they let us go up to northern with them and give them a hand. Ate dinner with Steve Lack. Couldn’t have been a nicer guy. Such great times!
Pure bliss walking back through my memories of college and watching 120 minutes with roommates. Matt Pinhead's interviews. That 90s vibe is perfectly captured in this video.
Sadly it only flies by even faster as you get older. This album was awesome when it came out. That was still a good time for rock. Lester Bangs was wrong.
@@stevenaaus Agreed. Other than Triage, Ghost Notes was very mom rock. And Louise's solos were greatly missed. Louise entered the studio last month to record her own material as VS is currently inactive; hopefully she gets back to being the hard rock part of the duo, and maybe some day reminds the band of their roots on another record.
Best performance Nina made in my opinion(as I’ve seen anyways)... usually I do prefer Louise, but Nina nails this one... pure energy and clumsy “off key singing” at times(but on purpose)... obviously... amazing performance, feeling rules all the way...
Listening to this again under lockdown. VS kind of a frustrating band -- a few great songs and some underdeveloped ideas. Classic case of too much too soon. Would have liked to see them last and head in some weirder directions, i.e. this and All hail Me...
They put out an LP, then an EP, then an LP. Then they split, and Louise did a few (pretty good) albums under the Veruca Salt name. Then they reunited about 14 years later and put out an LP. Now we are waiting for something else to get released.
that is a trip, i just listened to it, the main riff is the same pattern but is in E whereas VS is G. Hard to imagine pre-internet VS wouldve ever heard Garcia tho. The rest of the song is not really similar tho, no vocal melodies are the same in either song. Thanks, I love comments, always learning something new.
yeah, that's Louise for you. outside of the studio recordings she always struggled with the solos, and i'm saying this as a fan. she could write some great riffs, but she is no lead player.
@@adamwood87 I play these songs on guitar, trust me she is a badass lead player, these are complex leads, each lead she creates seems to follow a lead pattern that no one has discovered before and she never does any of the typical rock bend and pull-off licks and every note is exactly the perfect one for the song, the Seether lead, for example, blows my mind every time I play it. No one could have created a more fitting lead for that song.
@@joejones9520 yeah, if you notice what i actually said, i'm talking about her live performance, whereas you are talking about the composition. you're defending a point i never made.
@@joejones9520 yes, i said she rights great riffs. The crux of my position is that she struggles playing lead in a live setting. That was what I wrote, it was unequivocal.
I believe Louise is an underrated guitarist. Her skills are vicious!

What is she rated as a guitarist?
She's unbelievable
A total gem. Nina at the peak of her songwriting and performing skills.
This band is the definition of the 90’s!!!!!
This is like a '60's song. Great band. I'm from Chicago and they were part of a big alt/grunge scene then.
Exciting and fun times!
Love Veruca Salt! Great band!
God I loved 1994 thru 1996 so damn much
Bill Goat I was a very small child at that time.
🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌🤘🤘🤘🤘high school was a bummer... but still great you know !

Middle school for me, gems of the Super Nintendo, AOL was hardly being "online", I concur Your Excellency!
Veruca Salt Rocks
Louise with that All Hail Me hairdo. I can't. I am going to explode.

I prefer this live version over the album version. So quirky and sweet!

Hey man at least you got to experience a good music scene when you were younger. That really can't be said for me:(

I'm so happy they are back :)

23 years ago wow!! seems like yesterday...one of my top 10 coolest bands!!
Look at Nina and Louise shred! Phenomenal band
The song has such a good raw groove in this performance vs the album version. And Steve's bass is very prominent. Love it!
brilliantly crafted tune
Perfect Song! 👍👍👍
This was March 25, 1995 on MTV 120 Minutes
Fantastic song! Great Duo Nina Gordon&Louise Post.
Sick solo
Super high Quality is what I like it.
This was from 3 decades ago and yet it still feels like It dropped not to long ago
Very grunge i like it
Perfect song of the best Rock!

This song is never not great. And it's great for all occasions. Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, dental visits, vaccinations of domesticated rabbits...
At the moment I am writing a psychological report late at night while listening to it. I am proving your point.
Pruning the hedges of many small villages.
I love this song *wink*
