True. That area was occupied by the French when judge Chin's grandfather emigrate to the U.S. I guess it's better to be a part of France (~70 years) than to be a part of China (1000+ years). However, it's VERY DIFFICULT to eat Banh Mi with a chopstick.
Personally, if a choice has to be made if we couldn't had gained our independence, it would be better to be part of French or American territory :)). Look how hard it was to be with China so even though after a thousand years since the Chinese first invasion of Vietnam, Vietnamese people had to break free while keeping all the distinguished national language and identities. It's also been nearly 2 thousands years of independence since then. P.s. it is very difficult and the same time very ridiculous to eat Banh Mi with chopstick ;)
I'm surprised that unlike the people of India and Singapore, people of Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Phillippines are still loyal to their former colonizers. Well, at least the Vietnam people still kept their Chinese last names: Nguyen, Tran, Le, etc. Yes, the Vietnamese people are the only Asians that eat sandwiches.
