Thanks for the review! You spend so long working on a project that sometimes you can become unaware of certain things! The pilot was initially much more focused on establishing the two as friends but the further I went on the more I wanted to just jump in and show an average day in their lives. These are definitely criticisms I wanna take in and consider when making future episodes, including shortening the runtime to a solid 11 minutes! Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to give your thoughts!

@LordTchernobog He was forced to go by his mom who found out they were having the jr community gathering. He had to go and would get in big trouble if he came back. He never gets out so he had nowhere else to go in mind. This pilot has some gripes but that was pretty well explained.
Honestly my biggest problem with the pilot (which you do bring up) is that I don’t think it knows its audience. For the most part it really did feel like an older 2000’s cartoon like The Fairly Oddparents especially with the art style, but then the slightly adult themes and cursing kinda come out of nowhere and then disappear again
Personally speaking, it’s a bit jarring in a sense with mixing a high school setting with a cliché club setting. The whole series needs to be reworked over if it’s willing to become a full time show either on TH-cam or elsewhere.
@@AdventureMaster18 There needs to be a bit more complexity in terms of the side characters, and things need to be better planned out and well designed. For me it’s riffs on the cliche high school setting too much without giving any thought.
Idk where the show is going to go from here, but wouldn't it be a more fitting premise that these are two friends who haven't seen each other in a long time, so they literally act like it's the old days and "catch up"? That's what the title reminds me of
This show gives me kind of a Tom and Jerry vibe, but I'm not sure if I like it or not yet, I could definitely say it's growing on me though, the show has potential.
Knowing Mark and his tastes, I expected nothing less than a slice of life, character driven comedy. It got a few chuckles out of me and I was entertained and that's all I ask for.
I honestly really enjoyed the pilot BECAUSE of the slow pacing and slice of life storytelling. It's a completely different viewing experience to many other indie shows.
@@complex2live apparently not he looks soo much like tom from tom and jerry and I swear there where other wolfs in the pilot that looked completely different from him so idk tbh
i feel like many people were going to be disappointed no matter what. mark is a critic so people are much more likely to criticize his work if that makes sense? otherwise, i think the show has promise. it seems to be going down a more episodic slice of life kind of route rather than something plot driven like hazbin hotel; i feel like it's slow pacing fits that. i agree with many of the issues mentioned however. i'm looking forward to where the show will go in the future. it reminds me of early 2000's cartoons and i love the vibe.
I just noticed that in one of the scenes in Catching Up, there's a white dog with a red collar that looks like Brian Griffin from Family Guy. Also I haven't watched the Pilot yet, but I love that LS Mark made his own Indie Cartoon and I'm proud of him for that. One of these days I'll watch it and I might like it and I love that Micheal Kovach voiced Clay the Cat!😂😁🐱🐭
Kinda decent, it would better with more jokes and some sort of positive ending, like it was really worth to go outside, however I feel like it did a good job showing how an introvert feels when around people against his will, and so the tryhard, social awkward teen trying to socialize. I guess that's the pilot was about to show an introvert and a socially awkward's attempt to socialize.
I feel like people should acknowledge the fact that critics aren't infallible and stop implying that screwing up is an inherent sign of hypocrisy lol The only time it's hypocritical is when they're touting their work as a masterpiece and dismissing anyone who says otherwise, which doesn't apply here considering LS Mark seems to have responded well to criticism towards the pilot so far.
The biggest problem with the pilot is that it is kinda hard to catch the name of the characters. By the end I did not knew a single name. Edit: 58 likes? That the most likes I've ever gotten
This is such an interesting review. I love listening to others perspectives I love the idea that Mark had with them trying to catch up to the world around them. I absolutely enjoyed this and very excited for more episodes! The fact that Rob in the end is less naive to the world and Clay actually did improve in the end. Which is always so satisfying to me Wonderful job to everyone who worked on this! It was fun to watch and watching the bts video Mark made!!
I honestly like the pilot. I give it a solid 9 out of 10. It’s nice to see an Indy show that is just grounded and realistic for once. The fact that I watched this on my birthday today makes it even better. This will always have a special place in my heart . 💚
I know that indie animation came to have the expectations of big, involved stories with tons of lore, but I do not think all of them need to be like that. Mr. L. S. Marcus clearly likes animated sitcoms in particular, so him wanting to make one is not a big surprise for me. The pilot did not need to set up the world, since it is just a regular cartoon animal-people universe like you would find in tons of other classic animations. Clay and Rob are just regular people living in it. All the pilot needed to do is set up their dynamic and the series' tone, which I think it did quite well. I do not think an info dump about their town, school and family lives would have made it particularly better. I think it fits more for it to introduce these things gradually throughout future episodes whenever they are relevant, in the same fashion as Nickelodeon/Disney Channel animated sitcoms it is based on would. I will agree that the writing could have been better, however. The dialogue was not all too engaging a lot of the time and the jokes were rather average. It is one of these things where I will likely watch the next episode once it releases, but the series is unlikely to cross my mind until that point.
Yeah I’m not sure why everyone expects full fledged worlds in cartoons now, sometimes they’re just meant for the comedy, Catching up seems great imo! Yes, the writing could be better… but it’s only the pilot
This take is exactly why I like the pilot so far, It reminds me of older cartoons where everything was gradual, sure it couldve used some more content in there but again it is a pilot
It’s definitely more of a slice of life than an adventure or a genre with complex stories arcs. I think it’s a nice break to have an indie animated series that just watching these two goofy around and getting into fun scenarios instead of saving the world. But then again the show could also go into deeper themes like Clays relationship with his Mum (if that is ever a topic that gets expanded on) which would also love! I like this pilot and I’m just gonna enjoy the part of it that make me laugh and smile instead of focusing on what it lacks ☺️
Honestly, the whole concept needs to be reworked ground up because fitting a cliche high school setting doesn’t jive well with a club episode. Also there needs to be better writing all around.
@@mrconroy4672 on the contrary highscool is abt time where most ppl go and expiriance clubbing when i watched it i didnt notise slow paicing comedy was good bc both characters spoke to me on some level
These were exactly my problems with this pilot! Thank you for making a review out of it! Hope LsMark learns from it, bc he has a lot of potential to make it great ^^
My guess for the two knowing each other is that they've been friends for a while but went separate ways at some point. Clay would later become an isolated type and Rob became more outgoing. The series is them "Catching Up" on each other.
Eh... it felt so slow, boring, and unfunny..I hate rob he's an annoying mouse midget who's overly cocky and clay is a bland socially awkward teen .. Also I don't like how rob carrying some peoples jackets around supposed to be a bad thing and stuff when he was the one who decided to do it in the first place 😭 like you could've stopped at any moment? .. The show doesn't wanna make up their mind of which audience their aiming towards.. It feels like their trying to be regular show 2.0 and its not working 😭🙏 that's your opinion though and I respect it
Personally I’m tired of the cliche high school depiction and I’m asking for the whole concept to be reworked ground up before becoming an official show.

Being a late-teen/young-adult, the comedy actually landed really well with me, it was mostly just the length and pacing like you mentioned. The swears definitely felt weird, I laughed when he said “you’re just jealous because I got bitches” or whatever, but that was mostly because it just came out of nowhere, which honestly I feel like those kinds of things can work, but it has to be done right, otherwise the swearing will just sound dull and honestly annoying (Helluva Boss has made me grown to hate swears at this point). Solid 8/10 for me
I completely understand eveything you discussed, but for me, I personally enjoy pilots which drag and have vague plots over pilots which try to cram complex plots in less than a half hour. Obviously, it's my opinion, but I would rather enjoy something which spreads itself over a long period of time and explains the characters along with the pilot's genre, than one who gives lots of information in a few minutes.
To me it felt weird how near the introduction this two guys really didn't felt like they were friends or even knew each other that much, but from the rest of the episode they do act like they have been friends for a while
Idk i really liked it. It’s much lower stakes than a lot of other indie stuff. I feel like the indie animation community is missing that sort of stuff.
This is a pilot not a first episode and there is a difference a pilot is simply there to give off the vibe and how the show will feel like but a first episode is the first step of the actual story i feel as if pilots of indie animated shows being treated as episode ones caused this issue but if you look at pilots of other cartoons they present the general idea and how an episode would feel also I feel like people who watch lsmark regularly will enjoy this more than just a random viewer
@@mahmouddagher5127 I know, that’s why the pilot needs to be able to draw in more than just his audience. Smiling friends quickly became a hit, but many people who watched it probably didn’t know about Zach’s work as Psychicpebbles the animator/TH-camr. I’m not saying Zach’s better than Mark either, it’s only an example cuz the two have similar backgrounds.
@@mahmouddagher5127 the thing is for a pilot, you WANT to build up a connection for the main characters and know how it'll play out. Developing the bond between the two. Not to immediately throw them into a situation that doesn't feel believable and not show us having a proper dynamic. It's things like that I point out which makes a pilot stand out. Mark however doesn't have the capabilities and experience in being a writer. And it shows.
Clays definitely my new favorite character, i know how he feels, feeling out of place, nor very social, overthinks, really hope this gets made into a series too
I think the biggest thing that bugged me was how flat the characters were, specifically clay, it seems like making the snout more visible would have improved the appearance of the characters. But otherwise, I didn't really see many of the other complaints affecting much. It is just the pilot, and I'm excited to see another indie animation for me to watch. Admittedly, I think there could have been a little more action in the pilot and maybe a little better introduction for characters and the scene, but it's just a pilot in the end, and it's their choice of how to make it. The audience issue is also quite odd, I at first thought I'd selected something intended for younger audiences until I heard Michael and the swear words. I'm really hoping they don't switch and aim for a super young audience like Digital Circus kind of did. I also hope this stays crowdfunded, stuff getting picked up can sometimes ruin it because it becomes all about money, and they lose connection with their audience.
I didn't see many people pointing it out, but I do not really like the "anxiety attack" scene in the bar. It feels too short and kind of unrealistic. You just notice that "oh, he's having a panic attack," and bumm, he just snaps out of it because of a random "hey." For me, it feels like that scene is just there because panic attacks in animated media are popular stuff nowadays. Mostly because Velma screwed up badly, while many other shows do it better and people start comparing it. I also agree with the other stuff. The main characters look like some Tom and Jerry caricature or something, the pacing is slow; there are too many "awkward silent" scenes, etc.
@@user-x7dc2pq7n Yes! I mean, sure, some alcohol may help to relax. But given the context and the very cartoony art style, that was still a bit weird. Also, the whole drunken scene was a bit off. I mean, one scene he was barely able to walk, but 5 minutes later he's completely fine. Walk and talk without any issues. Like, thats not how drunkens work. I hope those things get fixed in later episodes or something. I think it's still can be a good show, as far as slice of life shows can be.
Eh I didn’t even know it was coming out but it was pretty ok, it definitely has the vibe that Mark wanted to make it feel like a Cartoon Network show, and I think it works in that regard
This is the same guy who milks Hazbin and Helluva like crazy to the point of taking crackpot theories even further into the wild 💀 It was a good pilot and I can’t wait for more I personally disagree with everything but the pacing and the fact that the guy milking Hazbin and Helluva had the balls to bring up pacing is mind boggling lmao
Personally, this is the best animated pilot Ive seen in a while. It’s a good change of pace from everything else that tries to be ambitious only to fall flat on its face.
It’s honestly not that bad like I’ve never heard about this before but I like it. It was pretty slow yet fast at the same time. The switch between cartoon and adult show feels weird like it’s really fast and not clean but Idk it’s not that bad? I feel like it will get better
I could predict what gag or plot payoff they were going for, and during the slow pacing think maybe they’ll surprise me with something else, but they do what I thought. It’s like anticipation that feels awkward. it sometimes feels true to life other times feels like a sit com with a muted laugh track
Yeah..? A lot of people do.. I get how it can be problematic and its not everyones cup of tea but just let people enjoy what they like.. I don't like hazbin hotel but just cause I don't like it doesn't mean everyone else has to .. Also Im my opinion I kind of disliked catching up.. The name of it doesn't even correlate to what happens much anyways and.. Idk it just felt so slow, boring, and unfunny..I hate rob he's an annoying mouse midget who's overly cocky and clay is a bland socially awkward teen .. This is a detail but I noticed something that felt a bit weird The inconsistency of the mouse character holding the jackets. There is so many times where he is supposed to hold them, but they disappear and reappear from scene to scene That's a bit weird and once you notice it it's kinda annoying
I found the whole thing honestly quite charming, even if the pacing was kinda aimless, I still enjoyed the dynamic of Rob and Clay, as well as the Nicktoon-type artstyle Plus seeing TH-camrs I enjoy like BalenaProductions, Caddicarus and Sr Pelo in an animated pilot alongside Michael Kovach and Zach Hadel added to the experience So yeah, I'm definitely down for more
Making an indie pilot is super hard to make good unless youve already established a platform but im still glad ls mark is taking the criticism well I love your indie show reviews ayy lmao it also helps me decide how my shows pilot should go
I personally thought the pilot was good (please don't come after me people it's just my opinion) the character design is cool too and I don't see why people hate it

@@noobmasterruben5167I have watched lackadaisy and I think it’s a perfect example of how indie animation should be. I didn’t say all of them did too much on animation than writing
Mark literally spent most of the development time working on the script for "Catching up", there are SO MANY scrapped scripts, he was even changing some things when the pilot was already being animated
I gave it a watch today as I've seen it in my recommendations lately. The swearing coming out of nowhere I didn't have very much of an issue with as there's barely any, knew right away when Clay began talking that it was Michael Kovach and much more could've happened, instead of Clay and Rob just going to a club and that's really it. I really don't mind the animation style and it's not overly funny, but I liked it 6.5/10
I actually like that it’s an adult show with kid friendly animation ❤ can’t wait for more episodes Edit: also, I hope they keep the designs they have. They’re extremely cute
yeah this is pretty much my exact thoughts on it. The episode isnt bad, its just a nothing burger.the premise is just two guys who do stuff sometimes, and thats honestly really boring. The dynamic between the two isnt even an interesting one, its just the same old "grumpy and sunshine" bit
I agree with you on the audience criticism and long pauses. I get that this show wants to go for a bit of cynicism, but the "adult" themes here don't really mesh with the setting or even the tone. If you removed the swearing and one scene with the beer, this could've easily aired in a daytime slot on Nickelodean.
Personally I really enjoyed the Pilot and found that it made me laugh more than other shows. Yes Michael Kovach voices in like every indie show but I really like Michael as a voice actor and think his voice makes Clay an even more loveable character. With the goals I understand that people might think they weren’t really set up properly in the Pilot, but Catching up seems to be more of a slice of life show than an adventure one with a complex arc. But besides that the characters still in a way have goals. Clay is an introvert the struggles to socialise and actively avoids going out when he doesn’t have to. Roy is the polar opposite, a people pleasing extrovert that wants to hang out with his buddy and drag him to places despite his protests. When watching the pilot I did question how these two came to be friends, but in my opinion that doesn’t necessarily have to be something that is established in a Pilot. It’s likely that in later episodes we are given more backstory with these two and I think that’s a factor that’ll keep me watching the show. With the themes, tone and swearing, I did think this might have been directed towards children at the start until they started swearing. For me this just made it funnier. A cute art style with an optimistic and pessimistic character combined with slightly adult themes made a lot of the jokes unexpected and just funnier. The memes, the PNGs and cartoon physics just make for something more indie in a sense. Catching up isn’t an epic action pact show with a complex story (from what I can tell so far), it’s simple it’s fun and it’s potentially another amazing indie show to look up to. I don’t wanna be poking at anyone’s opinions about the show saying “you’re wrong! This show is good you just can’t admit it”. That’s completely fine if you don’t like it and your opinion is valid. I just wanted to pitch my thoughts on your view of the show and present my love for it, and maybe give a different point of view for anyone who’s bothered to read this (btw if you are thank you for taking the time to listen to what I have to say 😊) I already love Catching Up as an indie animation and hope to see more of it soon.
focus: i actually like that it doesn’t seem to be focusing on a particular goal or direction, we just follow the characters in whatever they get up to. i like the more chill, episodic, slice of life vibes, maybe developing a more solid path later on, or little arcs of long term focus before going back to regular life episodes relationship: i agree it would benefit the pilot to have more context to why these two are friends and how their dynamic is. but its not detrimental to me as it is, i just assume it will be gradually explored more down the line as it goes on theming: the sudden swearing was rly jarring yeah, and i agree that it comes off not knowing what audience it’s targeting. but i also saw at least a couple comments saying they liked it, because they found it accurate to when they were near adults they didn’t swear, but once they’re out of earshot it starts coming out lol design: i like that they’re simple, but when you pointed it out yeah i can see them being *too* simple. they could have a bit more going on with them visually, but im alright with them as they are. i think the mouse’s hat is weird though, i cant figure out what it’s supposed to be?? 😭 i tried to draw it and i just. quit. pacing: i actually like slower pacing! idk if it’s just me, but a lot of newer media seems too fast for me to absorb or keep up with, especially in animation. this pilot is slow to the point of detriment though, but i like the idea and with a lil more speed and timing tweaking i think it’ll be alr humor: decent-ish? i didn’t realize just how much it was kinda falling flat with me until you pointed out how it didn’t land with you. i didn’t find it annoying or too detrimental though. figure it’s also something to improve with time. favorite part: the raccoon girl and her opossum friend, mostly raccoon girl. she’s my favorite in the way you like class of 09 characters or jax; they’re not good ppl but they’re funny at it. also 09 bc valley girl accents so least favorite part: any time they embarrass themselves talking to a girl the second hand embarrassment was KILLING ME overall i decently liked it and will be keeping up with the progression of the series and the creator in general :3
I otherwise agree with the criticisms but I think it’s a dumb point to make to ask why the pilot didn’t explain as to why the world is filled with anthropomorphic animals. No one really asked as to why Lackadaisy’s world is filled with cats rather than humans, it just is. I feel like “world with anthro animals” is just kind of a basic premise for a lot of different series that it doesn’t really need elaboration. Furthermore it doesn’t seem like this show is really going to be heavily lore based, it seems more like a slice of life sitcom with characters that just so happen to be anthro animals Like I said, otherwise agree. The pilot could’ve done way better to actually explain its premise and who the characters even are and why we should give a shit about them.
The difference Lackadaisy actually gives the cat design a purpose by allowing the character to be more expressive and having it explain their superhuman agility. What is the reason behind these characters being animals aside from "uhhh i like mice"
I was watching it and didn’t feel… anything, no joy, no anger, no sadness, nothing! Not even the legend of TH-cam voice actors could save this pile of nothing! I clicked off when it went nowhere
Yeah, I felt the pilot drags. It could've been half the length. Lol a lot of pilots I've seen tend to be pretty long. I'm used to the days when they were like 11 minutes or less. I think of a pilot as a free sample. You get a little taste of the meal you wanna buy.
Well, it’s a pilot. After all it’s supposed to be like you know a test to see what works and what doesn’t work if this does become a full series then yeah hopefully they’ll take some notes from the pilot and make the series a better thing.
Then again, not all pilots are created equal. Like Lackadaisy, Hazbin hotel and the pilot of Digital circus are really good in the starting point While Catching up, Port by the Sea, Cliffside and Dungeon flippers were okay & have room for improvement
I would honestly give this 6.5/10. I see this show have a LOT of potential, but it all won't work if Clay and Rob are not gonna be a couple later on. I like the way how it's just super simple and it's just normal life without any deep lore and secret, just being normal life of high schoolers that is fun to watch, but it wasn't all too funny and kinda cringy in a not good way at moments, but still I am going to watch new episodes and I love the character designs and animation style, though it lacks some background detail to be honest.
When you watch the Pilot of Catching Up, I REALLYY recommend watching LS Marks following video about the process, struggles and effort put into just that singular episode. It really gives great insight on everything happening on the inside :DD (hey that rhymed!)
As someone who has no connection or familiarity with LSMark at all, and just found out about the pilot and watched it today, I have to say it wasn't half bad. I was skeptical about it at first because I didn't dig the art style, but it did grow on me. I'm not over the moon about it or anything like some people are, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I like early 2000's cartoons just fine, and I feel like Mark's pilot did exactly what it set out to do. I liked it, but admittedly not enough to throw money at it. At least not yet. I would be open to seeing at least a few more episodes, though as I like the overall premise of the show and I did enjoy Clay and Rob's dynamic. I want to see those two deal with all the trials and tribulations of high school!
If the main protagonists are in high school and Rob wants to get alcohol but he wouldn't get it because he's broke? We don't exactly know how old these high-schoolers are but its still underage drinking.

One of these days I'll watch it and I might like it and I love that Micheal Kovach voiced Clay the Cat!😂😁🐱🐭
Clay is a wolf I believe? , but he does look more like a cat here lol. It's kinda hard to tell-
@@_Dar_29He is a cat.
there is also a dog that looks like klaus too 😂
4:42 this seems to be due to the fairly oddparents influence of the series as that show had a lot of wacky sound effects when they move.
I definitely disagree about the pacing. It all felt so real, especially the pausing to come up with the next addition to the conversation.
The animation brings back nostalgia of 2D animation of cartoons from the 2000s and early 2010s.
NGL the cursing threw me off. I thought the show was gonna be more aimed at kids.
I generally don’t know how they can stretch this into a series but it was cool to see
The guy who criticises cartoons doesn't make a perfect cartoon? Shocker.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not
@@CassieIsGaeProbably is 😅
I don't think we should dismiss a whole show because the guy who makes it is a cartoon critic.
@@CassieIsGae are you dumb
I feel like people should acknowledge the fact that critics aren't infallible and stop implying that screwing up is an inherent sign of hypocrisy lol The only time it's hypocritical is when they're touting their work as a masterpiece and dismissing anyone who says otherwise, which doesn't apply here considering LS Mark seems to have responded well to criticism towards the pilot so far.
The biggest problem with the pilot is that it is kinda hard to catch the name of the characters. By the end I did not knew a single name.
Edit: 58 likes? That the most likes I've ever gotten
I think Clay was the only name mentioned

So only those two then
@@Mystery-l2z what do u mean

Lets all agreee. Michael has become the mel blanc of indie animation
This is such an interesting review.
I love listening to others perspectives I love the idea that Mark had with them trying to catch up to the world around them.
I absolutely enjoyed this and very excited for more episodes! The fact that Rob in the end is less naive to the world and Clay actually did improve in the end. Which is always so satisfying to me
Wonderful job to everyone who worked on this!
I wonder what would've happened if the pilot was made by literally anyone else and Mark decided critique it
"Wow a cartoon character said a swear word, never seen that before"
These were exactly my problems with this pilot!
I thought the Pilot was Good, also I think Clay is a Cat, not a Wolf, also It's always the Pacing thats the Problem
Eh... it felt so slow, boring, and unfunny..I hate rob he's an annoying mouse midget who's overly cocky and clay is a bland socially awkward teen .. Also I don't like how rob carrying some peoples jackets around supposed to be a bad thing and stuff when he was the one who decided to do it in the first place 😭 like you could've stopped at any moment? .. The show doesn't wanna make up their mind of which audience their aiming towards.. It feels like their trying to be regular show 2.0 and its not working 😭🙏 that's your opinion though and I respect it
I found this pilot yesterday, and i already watched 5 times, so yeah, I'm absolutely obsessed
I mean he did a pretty good job. I’m sure if he makes more of the show it’ll become better. I thought it was pretty good in my opinion
hi...
Personally I’m tired of the cliche high school depiction and I’m asking for the whole concept to be reworked ground up before becoming an official show.
Eh it felt so slow, boring, and unfunny..I hate rob he's an annoying mouse midget who's overly cocky and clay is a bland socially awkward teen .. there werent enough fast pased sexual jokes for bro 😭it didnt meet his swear minimum of 150 😭
Being a late-teen/young-adult, the comedy actually landed really well with me, it was mostly just the length and pacing like you mentioned. Solid 8/10 for me
I actually really enjoyed it 😭
Sameee
Eh.. Imo it was trash
Thanks for the feedback!
Hazbin was too fast, but catching up was too slow.
You can never win people always gonna complain
This
Imo it low-key felt slow, boring, and unfunny
This is a pilot not a first episode and there is a difference a pilot is simply there to give off the vibe and how the show will feel like but a first episode is the first step of the actual story i feel as if pilots of indie animated shows being treated as episode ones caused this issue but if you look at pilots of other cartoons they present the general idea and how an episode would feel also I feel like people who watch lsmark regularly will enjoy this more than just a random viewer
still even in terms of a pilot it has a lot of issues
If the only people who can enjoy this pilot are his fans, then it didn’t do its job well.
@ragercarnage8609 iam not saying only his fans will like it iam saying they will like it more than people who dont frequently watch his videos
Clays definitely my new favorite character, i know how he feels, feeling out of place, nor very social, overthinks, really hope this gets made into a series too
Michael Kovach is back again🤯🤯🤯
Digital circus isn't aimed for a SUPER YOUNG audience wym? 😭
Its even worse when you remember that alcohol was the cure for his anxiety. LS Mark was on something when he was writing the script
Yeah i felt like that "anxiety attack" shouldve js been scrappes becus imo it felt kind of random and sudden and went away toooo fast
He's not having a panic attack, Clay was just feeling overwhelmed, that's why he snapped out of it so easily
i just finished watching the pilot and it was pretty good
Imo it honestly felt boring and unfunny
When the character said bitch...Me thinking ''What is this aim to?''
Personally I really liked this pilot but your criticisms are pretty valid
Eh I didn’t even know it was coming out but it was pretty ok, it definitely has the vibe that Mark wanted to make it feel like a Cartoon Network show, and I think it works in that regard
This is the same guy who milks Hazbin and Helluva like crazy to the point of taking crackpot theories even further into the wild 💀
It was a good pilot and I can’t wait for more I personally disagree with everything but the pacing and the fact that the guy milking Hazbin and Helluva had the balls to bring up pacing is mind boggling lmao
I agree with this statement.
Actually pretty good statement
Indie animated shows you should do vids on: earth guy, azureus, godspeed, atlas and the stars, monkey wrench
honestly i feel like literally all this needed was to set things up a little better and have a shorter runtime
Not gonna lie couldn't tell if clay was suppose to be a cat or wolf
Personally, this is the best animated pilot Ive seen in a while. It’s a good change of pace from everything else that tries to be ambitious only to fall flat on its face.
I think the show is more about coming out of your comfort zone.
Rewatching the episode again, to me it feels less of an "anaimated series" and more of a "animation parody" by those animation parody youtube channels
I mean buddy u watch hazbin hotel soooo

Am I the only one who first realized the mouse was called "Rob" when I saw the end credits?😅
No, the pilot didn't even introduce the characters its not your fault its the creator's fault
This is a detail but I noticed something that felt a bit weird
The inconsistency of the mouse character holding the jackets. There is so many times where he is supposed to hold them, but they disappear and reappear from scene to scene
That's a bit weird and once you notice it it's kinda annoying
Honestly I’m kinda tired of the high school setting
I thought it was better than hazbin probably cause CU is more my taste.
I found the whole thing honestly quite charming, even if the pacing was kinda aimless, I still enjoyed the dynamic of Rob and Clay, as well as the Nicktoon-type artstyle
Plus seeing TH-camrs I enjoy like BalenaProductions, Caddicarus and Sr Pelo in an animated pilot alongside Michael Kovach and Zach Hadel added to the experience
So yeah, I'm definitely down for more
Making an indie pilot is super hard to make good unless youve already established a platform but im still glad ls mark is taking the criticism well

I gave it a watch today as I've seen it in my recommendations lately. yeah this is pretty much my exact thoughts on it. The episode isnt bad, its just a nothing burger.the premise is just two guys who do stuff sometimes, and thats honestly really boring. The dynamic between the two isnt even an interesting one, its just the same old "grumpy and sunshine" bit
I DONT WANT CATCHING UP TO BE POPULAR BC THEY WILL BE BRAINROT :(((((((
how can you complain about pacing when you watch hazbin hotel
I agree with you on the audience criticism and long pauses. I get that this show wants to go for a bit of cynicism, but the "adult" themes here don't really mesh with the setting or even the tone. If you removed the swearing and one scene with the beer, this could've easily aired in a daytime slot on Nickelodean.
I mean there isn’t really adult themes? The two are at a civic center type party and teens in general swear and underage drink irl
I just wanted to pitch my thoughts on your view of the show and present my love for it, and maybe give a different point of view for anyone who’s bothered to read this (btw if you are thank you for taking the time to listen to what I have to say 😊)
I already love Catching Up as an indie animation and hope to see more of it soon.
focus: i actually like that it doesn’t seem to be focusing on a particular goal or direction, we just follow the characters in whatever they get up to. i like the more chill, episodic, slice of life vibes, maybe developing a more solid path later on, or little arcs of long term focus before going back to regular life episodes
relationship: i agree it would benefit the pilot to have more context to why these two are friends and how their dynamic is. but its not detrimental to me as it is, i just assume it will be gradually explored more down the line as it goes on
theming: the sudden swearing was rly jarring yeah, and i agree that it comes off not knowing what audience it’s targeting. but i also saw at least a couple comments saying they liked it, because they found it accurate to when they were near adults they didn’t swear, but once they’re out of earshot it starts coming out lol
design: i like that they’re simple, but when you pointed it out yeah i can see them being *too* simple. they could have a bit more going on with them visually, but im alright with them as they are. i think the mouse’s hat is weird though, i cant figure out what it’s supposed to be?? 😭 i tried to draw it and i just. quit.
pacing: i actually like slower pacing! idk if it’s just me, but a lot of newer media seems too fast for me to absorb or keep up with, especially in animation. this pilot is slow to the point of detriment though, but i like the idea and with a lil more speed and timing tweaking i think it’ll be alr
humor: decent-ish? i didn’t realize just how much it was kinda falling flat with me until you pointed out how it didn’t land with you. i didn’t find it annoying or too detrimental though. figure it’s also something to improve with time.
favorite part: the raccoon girl and her opossum friend, mostly raccoon girl. she’s my favorite in the way you like class of 09 characters or jax; they’re not good ppl but they’re funny at it. also 09 bc valley girl accents so
least favorite part: any time they embarrass themselves talking to a girl the second hand embarrassment was KILLING ME
overall i decently liked it and will be keeping up with the progression of the series and the creator in general :3
Furthermore it doesn’t seem like this show is really going to be heavily lore based, it seems more like a slice of life sitcom with characters that just so happen to be anthro animals
Like I said, otherwise agree.
@@user-x7dc2pq7n The reason is because it makes for cool designs
@@guerreiroazul3230 exactly, its like a 10 year old was in charge
Yeah it was pretty underwhelming too I mean it didn't catch me like the other shows

no joy, no anger, no sadness, nothing! Not even the legend of TH-cam voice actors could save this pile of nothing!
I clicked off when it went nowhere
You know what they say "They can't all be winners".
I honestly like the simple vibes. It's a show that's not quite for children but not quite for adults either and that's what I like about it.
Like Lackadaisy, Hazbin hotel and the pilot of Digital circus are really good in the starting point
While Catching up, Port by the Sea, Cliffside and Dungeon flippers were okay & have room for improvement
Pilot are also supposed to be good. Otherwise whats the point in making the series?
I think it was just silly and fun, I really liked it
To be honest I say it’s better than hazbin
Not much of an achievement
I'll definitely give LS Mark credit for trying. You can't fault a guy for trying 😌
Me personally, I think it’ll be a funny and goofy show to watch. I didn’t even know that there WERE any expectations😭
Clay once said
Rob: ya,know I do think I’ve ever seen you outside of school or your own house
Clay: that’s intentional yes
🗿
Rate it a 8/10 the diologe and plot could’ve been more clear
eh still better than hazbin
That's not difficult to do
As someone who has no connection or familiarity with LSMark at all, and just found out about the pilot and watched it today, I have to say it wasn't half bad.
