This shoe cleaning is done by Francisco. He is 48 years old and has been a shoe shiner in Mexico City for 24 years.
Francisco's shoe shine chair is located in the beautiful park of Santa María la Ribera. The Park is always full of activity: people walking their dogs, dancing, or even reading a book, etc. Many people visit the very famous kiosk/gazebo called Kiosco Morisco to observe and take pictures of the unique structure.
My Black Leather Dr. Martens Boots looked so dirty and the soles are broken. Francisco took the laces off and carefully painted the leather. I was so surprised by this shoe transformation.

I knew before it was quite common in the UK. If you ever visit Mexico, you should bring your shoes to get them shine! :D

What a fantastic job! If you showed someone a "before and after" picture of those boots, they would not believe they are the same pair. What a dramatic transformation. He is a true professional. Dr martens are cosy and comfy. But in this I have to say it's not he boots, it's the man who restored the look through polishing them, he is very good, a brilliant man with a brilliant trade, I wish him the very best and hope he teaches others his trade

One of the most adorable things about Francisco is how his opposite hand moves to mimic (or offset) his other hand. I just love it!!!

Hello Kat, here is a shoe shine tip for Francisco, in the last step of his shoe shine when he uses the long rag to buff. Have him use a little spray bottle of water and lightly spray the rag then buff the shoe from side to side. Add polish and buff add polish and buff, the water will give the black a higher glossy shine. Keep adding the 4 or 5 layers of polish then on the 6th layer use the water, it will be like glass with a mirror shine. Only the toe where the shoe bends the polish will crack if you put too much. But the toe you can make it look like shiny glass the reflection will be amazing. A shoe shining tip for better results and more customers because his shoes will shine better then the others.

The shoe shiners often use ad hoc containers for the shine liquid. Why is this? Do they siphon it off some large container? Do they make their own?
I think that's the way is sold in Mexico, in those containers ✌️
Doc martens soles are heated don't know if they will use glue to stick or not soles are not sewn on ( welted) I have two pairs but I don't wear them as much I've had them for a while but they haven't split yet nice shine
I don't know if glue would help but I'll try. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to use them only on winter and spring (not rainy season). Glad your boots have lasted so long. 😊
