    At 74 years old and having been around guns my whole life I have had the experience of being around a lot of shooters. My Dad worked for Rocketdyne in a San Fernando Valley and was able to shoot with these Gentlemen at the range. I bought the Colt Combat Commander because I had a Ruger 22 with the bull barrel and the sight length was the same. I was able to shoot with these guys for 4 years. Due to having a cataract developing in my right eye and being right handed I shot with my left eye. After a friend of mine died I inherited the Colt Gold Cup 45

    I bought a Rock Island 1911 A2 in 9mm years ago when it was first made. It was tight accurate, Had all the extras, and was around $500. I told everyone at the gun club about it and let them shoot it. Many of them ordered one from our LGD. I had to order mine because they were so new. Good gun.

    I decided to buy a 1911 and the gun shop guy said the Rock Island is an inexpensive, but good gun. I called a few gunsmiths I know and every one of them said the RI was actually a good firearm. So I got it, very happy with it and didn’t cost me an are and two legs.

    I picked up a Rock Island FS ultra in 10 mm on a whim for ... 400!!!! it was being "clearanced" I wasn't all that familiar with Rock Island and didn't expect much. I was amazed at the quality, trigger, feel and overall look. And it shoots better than I do. I just hope they keep the prices 500 to 700 dollar price point. I'll be buying more in a variety of flavors.

    S&W 1911 SC-E model. Bluesteel, walnut grips. An unbelievably beatuiful and seamless operating 1911. Dead-on accurate right out the box. Shocked it wasn't mentioned here.

    • @Mockturtlesoup1
      @Mockturtlesoup1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, S&W does make some good 1911s, but for whatever reason, I just can't stand the look of those wavy serrations that they have on all their guns. I mean I don't mind it on the M&Ps, but for some reason I just don't like them on the 1911s.
      Personally, I've always like Springfield's 1911s, and being from Hartford, CT, and having had to drive by the blue dome of the Colt factory every day with my dad as a kid, I do have a couple Colts. In fact a 5" Colt in .45 was my first 1911, because if I was only going to have one(which didn't last very long, lol) it was going to be the OG 1911 that Browning created.

    I have a Staccato C2, a Springfield Armory MC Operator and a couple of Rock Island Armory 1911's. The RIA 1911's are a pleasure to shoot. One of my RIA's is a 9MM which is a pleasure to shoot and a lot cheaper. The other RIA 1911 is in 45ACP. But, I bought it used, sight unseen. When it arrived at my local FFL, it came in a gun rug with one magazine and that's it. No paper work or trigger lock. And it was filthy and bone dry. I thought it was a lost cause when I first took it to the range and could not fire more than a couple of rounds without a failure. I had to disassemble it completely, soak every part in solvent, scrub and oil every part to get it working reliably. Now, I love it.

    The 1911 is my favorite weapon, it has the best trigger pull of any pistol IMO. As for the best 1911, well that's up to the owner. I personally would buy the cheapest 1911 you can find and modify it to fit my needs. The 1911 is an easy pistol to work on and has endless upgrade options. I have never found a stock out of the box gun that fits my needs, I always modify in one way or another. So I wouldn't worry about buying the best 1911 pistol, anyone with any skill can modify the 1911 to be a real nice shooter.

    Don’t know if you’ve reviewed this particular pistol, but I got a 'Girsan MC 1911 C' (in 9mm) in January and have so far been very satisfied with the purchase and the pistol’s performance. At only $500.00 per unit, it comes in either 9mm, 10mm, or .45 ACP and includes all of the bells and whistles that you would expect in a much more expensive model 1911. 'Honest Outlaw' rated the Girsan model the highest out of the budget ($500 price range) 1911s he reviewed, which also included the 'Rock Island‘ version. It was actually his review which prompted me to make the purchase. Girsan is a Turkish firearms manufacturer, whose products are imported by EAA (European American Armory), out of Cocoa, Fl. Now, I have only the one pistol to go by, but they seem to make high quality firearms and their prices are very reasonable.

    I just purchased the Springfield armory Vickers master class, 1911, and so far, for me, this may be hands-down, the best 1911 I owned. And yes, I have a Wilson combat ECX nine and have had pretty much every 1911 manufactured since the good Kimbers of the late 80s.

    • @MarcoFromTropoja

      I purchased the Vickers Master Class as well. The slide to frame fit is on par with a Wilson or Nighthawk. It's a good 1911 but I would still pick my Dan Wesson Specialist over it. The Dan Wesson feels a lot more refined and the trigger is at least a pound and a half lighter. I just ordered the new Springfield TRP in coyote so I will have to compare that between the Vickers and Specialist.

    Why would anyone (Kimber) cut open slots into the slide is beyond me. Another opening for dirt and debris to get inside the pistol. I highly doubt those modern 1911's would ever see combat but why take the chance of having dirt jam up your pistol in a critical situation.

    I have a Colt Series 70 Gov. Model in.45 i bought in 1980 that i still carry to this day and a SIG Emperor Scorpion in 45 auto that is bad ass. Even tho i have a Glock 19x that i love the 1911 is hard to beat when it comes to sex appeal and stopping power.

    There's three 1911's in this video I'd absolutely LOVE to own.
    The SIG Sauer STX
    The Wilson Combat
    and
    The Nighthawk Custom.
    That being said my EDC CCW is a Commander size Rock Island Armory chambered in .45 ACP and I am very pleased with it. Though sub-$1000, I think that RIA makes very good, reliable, dependable 1911's

    Les Baer or Ed Brown. Superb accuracy, reliable, so well fitted it feels like a solid block of billet steel. This is supposed to be the best 1911, not the best cheap ass 1911. So why are we talking about Rock Island or Kimbers?
    Wilson Combat 1911 are great, but they build in too many frivolous features costing a lot of money but doesn't add to the pistols performance. 40 LPI checkering or striations on the rear of the slide? I've never had the sun blind me reflecting off the rear of the slide. Flat topping to reduce glare? Puhlease! Fluting on the barrel chamber? Gimme a break. Same with ball end miling and other decorative features. Les Baers and Ed Brown SF build the most primal, purest essence of 1911s. Everything you need, nothing you don't. Beavertail grip safeties, good sights, enhanced safeties, excellent crisp trigger at 4 pounds, tightly fitted and all tuned for reliability, nothing else. It's as close to a pure fighting 1911 as you want with modern up to date features.

      Well fitted high end 1911 might be good in action shooting but in actual combat like trench warfare, the low end ones like the RIA or Tisas might be a better choice. Reliability might be more important than bulls eye accuracy. Just my opinion. I have a RIA 1911 A2 FS but I am more into revolvers for home defense.

    I’ve always been interested in owning a weapon but have never purchased one before. My career now later in life requires that I should carry a weapon for safety as well as wanting something for home security. I have always been partial to owning a 1911 45. As a first time gun purchaser, I’m certainly confused over which gun to buy. How does one make an informed decision about fit and feel before spending?

    I own a Sig 1911. Beautiful gun with with curvy finish where some of the original 1911A1 lines were squared off. Great gun, but stainless, so I can't (don't wanna) accessorize it or put any red-dot stuff or the like. My son who also has a similar model showed me a cool laser that is part of a grip set ... Might invest in one of those if it can be adjusted ... and still available.

      @@brandondavis4306 It's good for a budget 1911. It's better than a Rock Island. (I disagree with his #1 pick). Shoot a mid tier or high end and you'll see what I'm talking about. I have a Tisas. It doesn't come close to my Colt or Wilson. And for 75$ more, I got a Springfield Mil-Spec. Same thing. Better steel and better fit/finish.

    • @brandondavis4306
      @brandondavis4306 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @blackhawk2302
      @blackhawk2302 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@brandondavis4306 The Colt I have is the exact one in the video. It's the Gold Cup, stainless with the blue G10 grips. Got it on sale. It was half the price of my Wilson. My Wilson is the 45th Anniversary. And yeah, it was expensive. So I think it's not fair to compare that to a Tisas.
      I collect 1911s:
      Tisas, Springfield Armory Mil-Spec, Girsan. Those are my budgets. The Springfield is the most accurate and best quality out of the 3.
      Springfield Garrison, Colt Gold Cup, S&W 1911E, Kimber Raptor II
      Those are my mid tier. They're all solid. All under $1500. If I had to pick, it'd be a toss up between the Colt and the S&W....
      My top tier is the Wilson 45th Anniversary. It's an investment for sure at 2x the price of the others but it's a hand built, hand polished, hand tuned 1911.
      My point is there's different tiers. You can't really compare one tier against the other.
      If you like the Tisas, look at the Springfield Mil-Spec and the Garrison. Better quality and not much more....
