Countless movies and miniseries have focussed on just a few aspects of his life, and the French Revolution that precipitated his rise to power. More books have been written about him than about anyone else, ever.

Napoleon was 1,68 m tall. The story that he was almost a dwarf was british propaganda
I like Joaquin in terms of acting ability, but he's way too old to portray Napoleon before 1812, much less before becoming emperor. The man is literally three years younger right now than when Napoleon died on St. Helena. He's older than when Napoleon fought at Waterloo.
Honestly, someone like Adam Driver might have been able to make it the whole film (assuming that it's going from the execution of Louie XVI to his coronation, about eleven years) without seeming too old or young sans any touch-ups, but even that's kind of a non-optimal pick.
It'll still be decent. It's Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix. I'm just annoyed.

Despite the criticism that the movie has received, and it being for the most part valid, I think the movie was great. I left the cinema with my breath still heavy from the scene of The Battle of Austerlitz and my heart still in my throat from the scene of The Battle of Waterloo. While it might have not been as historically accurate and battle-oriented as this trailer suggested and we expected, it did Napoleon’s legacy justice with that exact feeling of shortness of breath and your heart in your throat. The movie was exceptionally made. Wonderfully cast, fantastically acted by Joaquin, phenomenally scored with tracks perfectly fitting. The cinematography of the film kept me in awe with each new set introduced and the realism of each and every single gory detail never failed to make gasp at least a little.
The film might have not told Napoleon’s story perfectly accurate, but it did get the greatness of his legacy across. And I think, that for the people that do not have as much historical knowledge to be able to point each inaccuracy out and ruin it for them, this movie showcased the great impact of Napoleon enough. A great movie for a great leader.
What exactly was the legacy and the impact of Napoleon then, that the movie showed? I mean, what impact did Napoleon have on history?
@@josefavomjaaga6097 Well, at LEAST the impact of the wars he led on the population of Europe, which were shown before the credits. That is the most obvious one. Apart from that, though, the overall message of the film was the reason to make the film itself. I can confidently say that for people who might have not known much about Napoleon before, after watching the movie they definitely do have at least an idea about the massive importance that he played in the world’s history. I showed this to my grandfather who solely knew that Napoleon was a French leader and somewhat famous, and after finishing the movie, he said he never knew he was that big. @@toddhoward5555 Prometheus and covenant are gorgeous and brilliant films. I think you maybe just didn't understand the themes behind them, many people get caught in the "A" plot of face value dialogue and events on screen and completely miss the subtle reference in every single line spoken by key characters and it's allusions to the plot. The movies are absolutely dripping with fine art references and I still meet so many people who can't understand the fine art of the alien organism that was perfected in Prometheus and covenant. It's the backstory element and it's twice as cold as the face value organism.
You really need to give them another try. I am the biggest alien fan.
The shot where he put the crown himself gives me goosebumps
I swear this comment is in every trailer for every movie made lately...
Goosebumps indeed.😅
Joaquin is the ultimate actor. Never seen a bad performance from him.
Agreed, but i'm a little scared by that accent. In some clips he sounds American, in others he sound English, and others, he sound like Pepe Le Pew.
He’s simply too fucking old to play Napoleon who was known for his youth , he was barely 26 and looked like a 15 year old boy when he conquered Italy, he Conquered Egypt at 28 , and was Head Of State by age 30 , You can’t have a guy in his 50s on the role of a young man in his early and mid 20s
“My enemies are many, my equals are none” Napoléon Bonaparte
Says the guy who died of cancer alone on an island in the atlantic ocean after losing a battle to some irish guy because he wanted to invade Belgium.
Despite the inaccuracies, this is an awesome movie, dont know why people hate it so much
I don't know why I was expecting a film like "Alexander the Great", epic battles and the rise of a God of War named "Napoleon"... instead I saw a nagging Napoleon who depended on Josephina's skirt..
Finally a movie that would make me go back to a theatre, it looks epic
@@larryhello-qs6im Unfortunately, but we can't get everything, it seems. At least there is no race swapping 😅
Napoleon speaks English instead of French, definitely shouldn't skip this one
"If there is ever a movie made on my life in the far future, Joaquin Phoenix shall play my role" - Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon was the loser. Joker fits for that role.
@AvazBahromov the most successful strategic commander in the world is a lower?

This is your brain on Britain.
I mean, he did lose though.
