I have a handicapped daughter, and the first time I walked into a therapy room full of severely-handicapped babies, I didn’t actually focus on their imperfections. I was profoundly distracted by the reality that these were whole souls. This was a surprise, because I was not a person of faith at that time.

Bishop Barron, hearing you almost every time I wake up in the middle of the night, is like hearing a long time friend , with very clear messages that make me feel at peace .
Thank you much for accompanying me in the end of my life.
I am 76, married for 51 years, with 5 children and 13 grandchildren, and with pancreatic cancer phase four.
Just can’t stop thanking God for every thing! You are one of them.

My epiphany was coming back to the Catholic Church thanks to Bishop Robert Barron, Father Mike Schmitz, and Jordan Peterson. Thank you.
I listen to Bishop Barron daily. I've listened to him in my sleep. Just put him on TH-cam and let it roll from one clip to another. I love his erudition and peppering his monologues with Latin and French and references to art and literature. I feel such deep affection for and gratitude to him. A true hero to me. He calms me. I pray for the bishop for continued healthy and in his ongoing mission to lead people to a better life. Thank you, sir.
We need more role models like the bishop and less of what we are surrounded by in today's world. Pick and choose your influences wisely.
As far as American culture, Frank Sinatra was an epiphany experience for me when I was 12. I saw him on a special singing a torch song on a high stool wearing a tux. My mouth dropped and my life changed. He opened up a whole world of music to me, and to this day no one affects me musically as Sinatra does.

How beautiful to hear this explanation from Bishop. I'm Ugandan. The story of the Uganda martyrs is indeed painful but very beautiful. I'm just happy to hear you talk about this story from my country,as a person that has visited this place several times and is always amazed at the faith of Charles Lwanga and his companions.Thank you, Bishop.

One of my epiphany was watching the movie Jesus Christ Superstar. I wasn’t a professing Christian, but at the Transfiguration Scene, I melted like wax in a pool of tears, recognizing the Truth of the scene. And to think, that was from Hollywood! God is truly Omnipresent!

Yes! Such a great film. Some people criticize it as if a musical retelling of the Gospel is meant to be a 1:1 adaption of the source material… I know many people who say it brought them closer to belief, precisely because it has a certain ineffable, transcendent quality (at least for some of us)

    • @JasonHattrick
      @JasonHattrick ปีที่แล้ว +8

Yes, this was literally my first exposure to the Gospel coming from a family that was in no way religious. I was fascinated with the telling of Jesus Christ Superstar. I remember scenes in this movie opening my mind to some other world and I knew there had to be more that this present life.

Boy , there’s no hiding from you. Your personal epiphany experiences are beautiful. I know precisely and perfectly what you mean . My first experience was the moment I met my to be future husband in a doorway . I was going in , he was going out. We were introduced and right then and there I said, he’s the one , he’s the one. He proceeded to go as I went in and the person I was with , my now sister in law, was astounded by what I said. She asked , what’s wrong” ? I barely got the words out, I said , “your brother is the man I’m going to marry “. She laughed .. we were married three years later and lived a life of bliss til he left for heaven four years ago. From the moment I said this is far bigger than me , it could only be my God. I still can’t put into words what happened to me that summer day , but it was life altering. I was nineteen years old , he was twenty eight. The most incredible, smart , decent , honest and loving man I’ve ever known. Not sure how I’m here without him .
My next epiphany is Bishop Robert Barron , true. Thank you.

This was just super. My own life-changin epiphany occurred on May 21, 1986. I decided I needed that "support group" for beer addiction. I'd not been able to stop on my own. That "speaker meeting," on a Wednesday night, changed my life "exponentially." Briefly, I had an epiphany about the meaning of words that had never quite sunk in--to this cradle Catholic: faith and grace. Along with those two words, the notion of being more open to actually being a constant, loyal "friend of God." And then with that novel idea the concept of being "of service to others."

  • @annalgesic5874

My greatest epiphany was when Pope Francis arrived in our country; when he came down from the plane exactly and was met by thousands of people. I realized that people then were excited when Jesus visited their cities. And when Jesus left earth, the same excitement were also felt by the people when the apostles visited them. No other person in the world is received with great enthusiasm by my predominantly Catholic nation except the Vicar of Christ. Even those who converted to Protestantism, embraced him as theirs too.
That's when the blindfold placed by fringe media on my eyes was ripped off. That was when everything my ~18 yrs Catholic education has taught me makes sense. Hid in my room and cried for days while reviewing what was taught to me by the Catholic Church and my family.
No amount of fringe ideas anymore can make me doubt that it is Jesus on the altar and that I am eating His flesh and blood. Thanks to Pope Francis walking down from that plane, I rediscovered Jesus through that image.

I too had an epiphany with Pope Francis as his car passed by. I and many others where sitting on a fence to get a better view over the huge crowds. I felt the tug of grace. It reminded me of the passage of Zacchaeas.
We must always keep our Pope and our Bishops in our prayers. The responsibility they bear is incredible.

What is the name of your country (if you don't mind me asking)? You mentioned 'Pope Francis arrived in our country' & 'my predominantly Catholic nation', but you didn't state your country's name. I thought there are no more Catholic nations in today's world, so I'm curious about your nation (what country is that?)! Even countries which most of the Catholic saints came from, such as Spain, Italy & France have become progressively anti-Catholic & moving towards atheism!

"We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall."
    - J.R.R. Tolkien, as quoeted by C.S. Lewis
Excellent sermon, Bishop Barron. I think the best literature can reflect the Truth and beauty of God, even if they aren't discussing religion explicitly.

That Camaldolese monastery in Big Sur is a holy place. It's perched up on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific, one of the most beautiful spots in the world. At one time there was a lot of chaos in my life and we were caring for several dogs that my kids had adopted but weren't really in position to attend to. They were getting shelter and food but no one was paying attention to their specific needs. It became apparent at one point that a young female was pregnant . Why we allowed this to happen was a source of discussion as it was only going to increase the chaos. She gave birth to 5 puppies, when she was probably not even a year old herself. As soon as the puppies were born, she became hostile to the other dogs, kept them away from her puppies. We built a pen so she could nurse and nurture them. She was a puppy herself but was a perfect mother. Eventually we found good homes for them. That whole experience was an epiphany for me. Bless you, Bishop Barron.

Thank you, Bishop Barron! I never thought of my spiritual experience as an epiphany, but it was after listening today. To read, pray and study the Word of God finding out that Jesus Christ is Lord for all. The long-awaited Messiah for the Jews! I had my first epiphany in 1982 when someone played "Slow Train Coming" by Bob Dylan many years prior to my greatest epiphany. Bob is in the same realm as Joyce, Shakespeare, and Beethoven.

Epiphanies - Bishop Barron, you have created many of these epiphanies for many people with your works around the globe …. Some who were blessed like me to meet you at dinner and receive holy communion from you in 2022. Truly, these experiences were the highlights of 2022, sending me more on mission to spread the news of our rich Catholic faith. Having spent thirty years “running around the barn” in various churches and spiritual sects searching, and here all along, I was born into the church Jesus began 2013 years before I had various epiphanies to bring me back to our glorious sacraments and rich Catholic faith. God bless you and the WOF staff and their families for the huge sacrifices you all make to send more of us on mission for Jesus Christ’s Church.

@Bernard EvilLaw Parents need to be vigilant of who they bring around their children. If it was an orphange, then there should've been and should be going forward, more authority over such a large institution that involves children.
In my opinion, you can't blame a whole religion because there are bad apples in it. Those pedophiles' actions have nothing to do with the birth of my firstborn child.
I am sorry to hear of such a tragedy, but I don't comdend my Catholic faith because of a bunch of malevolent a$$holes.

Many years ago, I was awaiting my Internal medicine (post graduate) exam result. I was very worried at the time since many things depended on this result. I prayed the rosary continuously. In my dream that night, I had seen our blessed Mother. She said nothing to me, I was filled with so much joy just looking at her for a few moments. This feeling is similar to what one feels when you meet your loved one after a long long time; only that this feeling was more joyful and beautiful than I can describe. I said to myself; if this is what I feel when I am with our blessed Mother, then how much more wonderful would it be to stay with God and his saints forever.
I got my result the following day and I passed my exam.

You take my breath away listening to your special Epiphany moments!
I just wanted to say I am an avid biography reader and I read one called Shakespeare and Company about the American Sylvia Beach who opened this bookstore in Paris.
She also helped Joyce get his book Ulysses published.
So my second trip to Paris when walking with my friend I saw for the first time Shakespeare and Co bookstore and I had a breath gasping moment but not the Epiphany moment like you but close.

Thank you so much Bishop Barron for this wonderful reflection. I couldn’t have thought it this way.
Well, If I have to be attentive to the Epiphanies of our Lord, I could only think about the grand Sinulog festival in Cebu, Philippines.
Every third Sunday of January, we celebrate the feast of the Señor Santo Niño or the Holy Child Jesus. The statue/image was a gift from Magellan and his companions to the first christians in the Philippines - who were baptised on an Easter Sunday after Magellan and his men successfully landed on our shores.
I must say that this feast is truly moving for me. It’s not just about the hundreds or the thousands of pilgrims who come yearly but it’s the faith, the joy and the smiles on the faces of these devotees that made me feel God is truly present amongst His people.
“Where is the king of the jews?”
God is everywhere but if I may dare say, He is in our land, in Cebu, the Philippines … particularly because we have our beloved Señor Santo Niño!
And like a precious child, with much pride, we love to carry Him in our arms. He made us feel the need to protect him, and regard Him as much as our very own child! How wonderful it is for God to make himself so small so we that we can come down to our knees and take Him into our arms.
What is also utterly moving is to see how much God wants to be King in a country where the people are very poor!
A lot of us , like the three magi, would seek the King of the Jews in the palaces of Kings… and yet how astonished they must have been to find him born in a humble manger.
If there’s a wavering of the Christian faith in the west it’s because in order to find God we need to be poor. For Christ Himself was poor. We are not just materially rich, but we are rich of ourselves.
We need to go out of our comfort zones like the three magi who set out to seek God. Perhaps too, we need to go back to this simplicity of a child in order to be receptive of God in the way He wants to manifest Himself in our lives ! The Epiphanie.
Indeed, in the current world like ours where there’s a constant struggle to reduce this feast to a mere secular and commercialised event and the pandemic that made it utterly impossible to celebrate this feast for the last two years. It’s also like the three magi who got lost track of the star for it was nowhere in sight. But when they saw the star again, they were filled with joy.
In the same way ,this year, God made us even more stronger so that we can only be forever grateful for all that He has done in our lives!
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Is 9:6

one of my dearest epiphanies, was when Bishop Barron spoke of the trinity and Thomas Aquinas, at that moment I knew with all conviction that after wandering around without religion, I was going to be a catholic! After having said for years that I could not commit to any. Thank you Bishop Barron ❤

This man is so wonderful! I don't know if you have realized, but he has explained more than only Epiphany! He has explained what is prayer! Prayer is attentiveness! Focus on Jesus and God! I guess that the next time I'll pray my prayer will be much better! Thank you Monsignor Barron!

Epiphanies are life-changing when we follow them. Yes!!! LOVED the personal experiences related here! BB brings his talent and vast understanding garnered through his studies and faith directly to the people For me, an epiphany I have had is that if the church wants to hang on to their youth, they need to provide places and events for them to attend to meet each other and connect. The same for the parents who are seeking play groups, and old people seeking to ease their loneliness, etc...

Thanks Bishop Barron, as Armenians we celebrate our Christmas on January 6 due to the unity of 2 important events namely the Nativity and Babtism of Christ..we call it "Asdvadzahaydnoutioun" which means the appearance of God among men, over 1722 years we remained faithful to our tradition and still. My best regards from Montreal

Thank you Bishop Barron I know what Epiphany really means in our lives. I had the same reaction to Notre Dame’s rose window. Amazing how the beauty of nature or music can be a epiphany for us. Our faith in God and his blessings are definitely true and good.
