You could thread the jute/floss/string hanging loop through the point of the smallest triangle (with a needle, from the inside) before you proceed to put the triangles together, then it would be hidden. Very cute tree!
Really cute idea! I also thought it would be good to fit each section inside the previous one. I also thought it would be nice to add to a package. It would become a keepsake. Thanks for the tutorial.
I agree about putting them inside each one. I'm also wondering if you could fold each square corner to corner for the triangle and sew it without cutting and sewing again. I love the idea of adding to a gift!
@@flashfictionmysteryquilt That was my thought as well. Then it would be fully reversible. You could also put the trunk inside the last triangle. What brand/color of thread did you use for the fancy stitching?
When I sew small pieces or tight places I like to use a leader. Just a piece of doubled scrap to begin sewing on then continue onto the shape then clip off the leader and use it again when needed. It helps keep the feed dogs from eating your quilt piece. Your project is very nice! Thank you!
I find it’s also helpful to sew a thick thread with a knotted end, sticking out of the corner seams. Then upon turning inside out, pull on the string gently to bring the point out. Then clip the knot, and slide out the thread.
You could see the pieces individually to stabilizer (coffee filters work great) and turn them before sewing together. You could tuck each inside of the next and sew. The front and back would look alike.
Yes, the tucking inside each other was suggested in a comment below. I am not sure why we didn’t think of it ourselves :-) but I am super happy all our great followers suggested it!
You did a beautiful job on the tree. I am amazed how so many mixed materials can look so good together. And there are so many wonderful ideas how to expand on it on the comments. Thank you everyone for your help.
Love your little trees! I must make some for Christmas! One more tip - after you trim your corners, trim the seam allowance so the point looks like an arrowhead - there will be even less bulk when you turn the pieces. Take care 🥰
Love these ornaments - just a comment on sewing those points. I learned many years ago when I actually sewed collars that if you take a couple small stitches across the point before turning to the next side (is that clear?) - the point will actually be much sharper than just pivoting and turning. I haven’t a clue why this works but it does. One of those old time tricks! I do wish there was a printed description of the sizes if squares but I’ll just go back through the transcript and copy down the sizes later on. These would make such pretty items to sell for a quilt guild or just to give as a beautiful gift to friends/guild members. Thanks so much!
@@flashfictionmysteryquilt just saved both the little tree and the basket pdf instructions to Books and I also text things to myself - two places so I never forget!!! Thanks again. Mill check about your mystery quilte - sounds interesting,
I would sew the hanger for the tree in the top one so that when it gets turned hanger is already there. I also would nest inside the upper piece so it looks the same on both sides. I am going to make some for the neighbors and friends.
Yes that was suggested in the comments below. I don’t know why we didn’t think of it, lol. We were just so excited to have such a cute project to show everyone! Thanks!
This is really cute. I make new ornaments for my tree each year. My grandson's help make some for their tree too..those aren't sewn. I buy wooden shapes for them to paint or we do yarn ones.
That sounds like a really cute plan. We made him small enough to hang on Christmas trees, but of course you can make them whatever size you would like. Hope you enjoyed the video!
I love the idea. I'm going to try it like this except lightly stuff each section, then starting from the trunk, insert each piece into the next so youre you're sewing each section closed. Then before you add the top section, thread a needle with hanging thread and insert it into the tip of the tree for the hanger....tie it off and sew section shut. It's working out in my brain, we shall see how it goes in real life lol😄
I am so happy you love it!! Please share the video with your friends. We will be doing one more easy holiday project in the next few weeks!! Subscribe to our Chanel to be notified when it releases!
Someone mentioned earlier, that you can do that with even with the triangles. Great idea’s from everyone. It’s interesting when I made the tutorial it never dawned on me… lol
Lovely little tree, but why wouldn’t you put each point inside the one above, and then sew, rather than layering them? Then it looks the same on both sides & it's neater.
Thank you! Yes that is a great idea! I was brain storming and shooting the video at the same time I invented the little tree so I didn’t really think about all the other ways it could be done 😂 but it is so fun to sew up anyway you choose.
Lol I have no idea why I never thought of it. We had been working all morning on another video and this popped one into my head. I guess I was thinking one sided view. Lol or tired and not thinking at all haha!

Why don't you put your tree trunk inside? Just think it would look so much better sup to you though. Cause it's your tree when I make them. I'm blocking what you did when I make them. I'm going to put my tree trunk inside
You should tuck the trunk inside the bottom layer and you would have a much neater back instead of raggy threads
Yes, someone mentioned that a while back. Not sure why I didn't think of that!
Idea, just put the points inside the previous one and sew them closed. Pretty on both sides.
Great idea!
That was my thought
Just what I was thinking! X
Glad you all thought this! Perfect! Thanks
I was thinking the same thing… that way they have no front or back.

Why not enclose the top of the trunk inside the opening of the bottom of the tree? Then no raw edges showing .🙂
