Yesssirrr. I was in Iraq when Obama won the election. Them whites in my unit were so pissed they tried taking their frustrations out on all the Black Marines. I didn't get to vote either. All I remember is waking up and everybody was like "Obama won"...then we finally got access to cable TV in the desert a few weeks later and all the Marines said "Turn it to MTV" and this Jeezy video was the first thing that came on. They ran out the room red and on fire and I was just smirking with joy on the couch singing "my Lambo blueeeee" 😂
@@NelsonLovellI’m white and live in Tennessee. In 2008 I lived in a very country rural white town. Population 1,000. I was in 6th grade during the election. I remember telling people I wanted Obama to win. I didn’t know anything about politics. I just wanted the first black president, and I think I saw him as a cool guy lol. And people was shocked I’d want that. Even in 2012 I liked him more than Romney. Even as a kid. Obama just seemed genuine and kind. You can argue about policies. But Obama seemed respectful and kind and funny. And to me that’s everything.

@@bachzawali8610 the point is that america is a melting pot of races. especially black and white, but the rarity of having a black president in america nonetheless is what makes it such a big deal, but i digress. At the end of the day i rather have a good president no matter the race

One of the realest thing I’ve heard all this year “just because you got a opinion doesn’t make you a politician..” I think our government should hear that, why aren’t any of them stating any facts... listening to this song makes me wish I could re-live those years.
“Yes We Can” the real ones know what I mean. 🐐🐐 this song still gives me chill. Still remember watching the announcement on TV and the excitement it brought. I still get the feelings 👌🏾

Serious question, what honestly changed?
@@GN9K71 bush doesn't care about black people. Old Kanye voice😂
So what did Obama do that benefited black Americans or any Americans for that matter? Highest unemployment among black Americans, lowest home ownership, skyrocketing heath care costs, only president ever to not have 1 year of 3% gdp growth, continued the unpopular wars he said we'd be out of in 6 months, gave my money to Detroit, and the list goes on... Obama lives in the lap of luxury and goes to Africa to tell Africans they can't have air conditioning.
“Ultimately, if you think about all the youth that everybody has mentioned here in Africa, if everybody is raising living standards to the point where everybody has got a car and everybody has got air conditioning, and everybody has got a big house, well, the planet will boil over -- unless we find new ways of producing energy.” Obama 2013

Yess forever my jam! This was a good time for us black people ✊🏾✊🏾🔥🔥🎶💃🏾💃🏾🎙️🎤
I will never be able to explain the amount of joy that overwhelmed me when he won. My cousin and I screamed to the top of our lungs "he won!"The next day at school, I felt like I could conquer anything. People don't get it, many black people don't have positive role models to look up to that tells them a black can succeed. When they look around all they see is hardship and failure, so when a Black man won the Presidency it provided a sense of hope. It has nothing to do with white vs black (at least it didn't at the time). My grandmother CRIED when I woke her up and told her. This is a lady who once attended segregated schools, now she's seeing a Black or Mixed race man as a President. Almost 8 years later, I have mixed views about Obama but nothing will ever take away from that moment in 2008.
+Geena H
Very well said. This is only the beginning, do not let race ever hold you or anyone else back. Your mind is the limits, your strength is your heart. That is the value of a human being.
