    I had a customer just like this one who would show me a picture of some crazy fancy stuff and want it in her house. After explaining what was possible she would change her mind half way, I eventually had to walk away and cut my losses

      I had a signed contract for this job. We agreed on everything prior installation. TO be honest, she didn't show any red flags until I was already there doing the work. I would not have taken the job if she had shown any red flags before.

    Yikes - customers like this are unfortunately common. They want a deal and BECAUSE you’re not giving them a deal and give them a premium quote, they tend to be over critical of the work to justify their spend. It also doesn’t help that the customer fits a certain stereotype.

    She pretty clearly said she wanted the side boxes to be the same height as the centre one. She said "it won't look good if this (the side box) gets higher than that line, right?" And then you confirmed it with her "okay, so the same?" then you guys put it higher. Unless I missed something after that.
    As for the lower detail boxes, that just seems like an unfortunate miscommunication.
    I think it might be worth in the future drawing a sketch, even if it is pretty basic and getting customer to confirm that. In the end it looks nice, but yeah

      true i caught that. She had come into the garage when I was cutting trim and told me to make the side boxes taller to fill the wall more just after that part. Unfortunately, camera was in the other room and didn't catch that. Once she saw the taller side boxes on the wall, she changed her mind about the middle box. Also before doing anything, I had put masking tape on the wall outlining where everything was going to go. That part didn't make it in the video.

      I have indeed learned through experience to always make drawings in advance. Also, I think a lot of people don’t know what they want. Confirming details during the process only confuses them. People are great in have comments on finished work, but are not capable of picturing it beforehand. I usually give my customers advice if things change during the work. Tell them what I think is best and why. 90% of customers go along and end up happy because they have the feeling that the result is as the pro would do it.

    14:35 $5000 ? Is the TV and the sound bar also included?

    • @utubehandyman
      @utubehandyman 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      5k for everything in the picture to include a custom tv console. But they decided to just go cheap and do the trim. 1400 for what's shown in the video, which is cheap, I should've charged more but oh well.

    Why all the cords hanging from the TV. They not want to pay to have outlets located behind it ? The right hand duplex as well ?

      I had already done enough free work. They didn't want to pay to have them ran behind the wall. Also the tv needs to be reinstalled higher to center it with the trim. They probably hired the local "handyman" to do that. I guess my prices are too high 🤣

    One evening I was talking to a young attractive woman about her business. (I am a business consultant) we were just casually chatting. She started asking me technical questions about her business and what she should be doing and I was like whoa there Nelly!😅 I charge for consulting. She ignored me and said I'm Doing everything and I simply said, No, you're not. And she says well then what? And I'm like 🚫. Handyman, all I can tell you is that if you have a disaster of a job it is your fault, since it is your fault, you have the power to correct it. For some strange reason people act like I don't know what I am talking about. I can tell you what to do I say, no you can't they say. I wave $10,000 in their faces, and they say I'm not paying you 😂😂😂. Oooook😮
