    Too all those saying free weights are better or bands are better, your all right.
    Whats best is what gets you motivated and moving in the first place.
    this is no diffrent than the bickering between cyclists and runners, what matters is people get off their ass.
    I may think crossfit is retarded, but i will encourage the shit out of anyone who wants to go do it

    There are a lot of people that just want to get in shape, be it losing weight, getting some tone and firmness , and just getting fit. I see so many posts of people insulting bands and people who use them. There are many with back injuries and degenerated discs that just have issues with lifting barbells/dumbbells from joint pain. The goals are likely to be different as well if some guy is 19 yrs old and has the ambition to gain 20 lbs of muscular weight and another guy who might be 39 yrs old and might only want to lose 20 lbs and be more firm and feel better. I went thru that phase during my teens and early 20's of bench presses,squats,deadlifts, overhead presses,ect. If great strength and mass is what you're after, then the barbells and dumbbells are still the area to be in. Strictly using bands are more "fitness" oriented and have their place in the exercise world. What ticks me off are these, usually close-minded young bucks that think anyone into working out should do as they do and lift barbells/dumbbells and have the same bodybuilding or powerlifting goals just like them and when they come across others that don't, they want to low-rate them. What they fail to understand is that not everyone shares the same goals and priorities.
    Anyway, in June 2014 I ordered a set of Bodylastics and they suit my goals fine. I prefer the metal carabiner connectors that are on each end of every individual band. Between using them and a suspension trainer for bodyweight exercises, I not only look better but feel better. I'm pushing 40 and don't have the same workout routine as I had 20 yrs ago.I've been there and done that, I have nothing to prove.I'm more fitness and endurance oriented. There's nothing wrong with using bands.

    To all the people saying free weights work better, resistance is resistance. Your muscles do NOT know whether you are using bodyweight, free weights, bands etc. Muscles grows in response to stress via resistance to movement. It really doesn't matter how that resistance is achieved. In fact resistance bands can offer a much more consistent and cheat proof resistance for muscles growth. Terrell Owens is a wide receiver in the NFL and he swears by resistance bands. As long as the resistance is high enough (the old rules still apply, find the 1RM and work from there) then muscle will react.

    • @Delta3angle
      @Delta3angle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +bobbypaycheque The issue is that the resistance curve with resistance bands is detrimental when building maximal strength. Dont get me wrong they are fantastic when used as an accessory lift but Weights are superior in almost every other category.

    • @bobbypaycheque
      @bobbypaycheque 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      NDNguitarguy
      My experience is weights are great for dead lifts and situations where the weight is constant. For other exercises like curls, just for example, bands offer the more consistent resistance throughout the movement. If you are slack at the beginning you aren't using a high enough resistance band. With a free weight on a curl the resistance becomes less at the top of the movement. Kinda hard to explain in just text but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

    • @Delta3angle
      @Delta3angle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +bobbypaycheque Again resistance bands are great for accessory exercises. What you are referring to is an example of force curve caused by leverage of the weight. Resistance bands just get hard in the end of the range of motion which make them a poor choice for any sort of maximal strength work. But for prehab and accessory work I absolutely love them.

    • @bobbypaycheque
      @bobbypaycheque 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      NDNguitarguy
      Free weights are not consistent. They do not give the same amount of resistance at the top of a movement during a curl, they lack effectiveness depending on the structure of the movement. Essentially free weights simply rely on gravity, which isn't enough range if strength is the goal. I practice Judo, and almost everyone in Judo uses bands over free weights because high resistance bands round out strength better. Why? Because in Judo it is very unlikely I will have to apply my strength in a structured weight lifting posture. I need to build up 'imperfect' strength. High resistance bands let me start at tension of X lbs and the resistance will increase consistently throughout the motion regardless of my structure. This guy does BJJ and I totally get why he uses bands. If you want to look like a bodybuilder then use free weights. If you want to be wrestler strong use high resistance bands and resisting sparring partners. In a match you will never have perfect footing or perfect posture when you have to use your strength. Free weights are just that, for perfecting lifting heavy weights in a very specific way. Do a lift with free weights wrong and you wreck yourself because you have only built 'perfect' strength. Football players do a lot of resistance band work because they need that explosive power. Terrell Owens is a big proponent of resistance bands. It's really hard to get this across in typing, hoping you are understanding what I'm saying.

    Bands are great for enhancing weight training too, if you have some weights at home but want more resistance, add bands!
    You`ll get progressive resistance too, which is good for extension strength.
    I have weights at home, but I almost only use bands..

    • @rabiesbiter5681
      @rabiesbiter5681 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Even adding some bands to a couple of 30lb dumbbells can be a killer. And there's some clinical evidence to suggest that enhancing weights with bands means more gains than either one alone. Even an increased 1RM. It just works.

    Bought Bobby Hinds' jump rope in the 70's and his "Lifeline Gym" shortly after. Been using cables ever since -- for over 40 years. I called Lifeline to order an additional 80# cable one Saturday morning years ago and Bobby happened to pick up the phone. We had a nice chat and the conversation went to how we were working on some great looking cadavers! ☺ (I'm still at it! ) I have a gym membership, but I hardly ever go. It's too convenient to get my "gym bag" of cables and train wherever I might be. Never miss a workout (and the future "cadaver's" looking pretty good too!)

    Thanks, Darrin, for the clear and informative explanation. I used to think that bands were, gimmicky, and "girlie", and ultimately ineffective. Wrong on all counts. I was born during Ike's administration, am currently semi-retired and drive a school bus. Vehicle driving jobs are high on the list of jobs that promote obesity and all the ills that go with a sedentary life style. Now I carry a band with me and find ever new opportunities to exercise during the frequent periods of dead time.

    Explosive motion and static resistance can most certainly be achieved with "dead weight". To avoid having to argue with fanatics on either side I humbly present the notion....that everyone incorporates both. Constant tension does provide a very unique way to build strength and endurance in muscles but those bands will never activate the core in the specific way dead lifting a barbell will or in the way kettle-bell swings do. Aside from the sales-pitch bollocks and misinformation its a very underutilized method that should be incorporated into a well balanced program.

    • @Vameon
      @Vameon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mzigg61 Yeah I'm with ya, too many guys just ignore the idea of the band, but adding it into your workout can really help, it really made my arms more defined and helped me work on specific areas I couldn't get at as easily with weights.
      Also, it's without question the easiest thing to travel with and I think can be used with weights for awesome results.

    I think of bands as a addition to weights or calisthenics. Bands can easily hit those small supporting muscles and seem easier on the tendons and ligaments. I might just be making up shit cause resistance is resistance, but still. I don't think you can replace olympic lifts or advanced calisthenic movements with bands.

    From personal experience I know it's wrong to duplicate weights exercises with bands. Also, bands are not to be done for reps - they are done for interval timing - that's how you get most of them. Mainly, they are to be used for people who want to improve functional power. I found that they way martial artists train them is the best way to get ripped. (plenty of workouts specifically for rubber bands on the net, do not dublicate weightlifting)

      As a general rule, to recruit as many muscle fibers as possible, you either need to be loading at 90% of your one rep max, or lifting at maximal speed. Since heaviest loads are harder with bands, speed is important. It's also important to train the recruitment of fast-twitch muscle fibers if you're involved with a sport which requires it.

      body building is time under tension. the more time the muscle is stressed the more "damage" is done the more muscle you build, i.e. 10 reps at 5x5 cadence, 5 seconds down, 5 seconds up, takes momentum out of the movement, strength training on the other hand will build some muscle as well but its also training your neuro-muscular response, at higher percentages of your max i.e. 3 sets by 3 reps at 85% of your 1 rep max, you can do plyometrics to build explosive strength, i would recommended reading Timothy Ferris 4hour body and Jim Wendler 531 for more info

    I like this system of stackable resistance Bands, the way the bands are closely locked in to your grip. Other systems are to loose and have like a double lenght textile handles.What is the brand of these bands ?

      +mrs benedict cumberbatch I think so. get a full set of bands from very light to very high resistance. and just use common sense and don't over do anything. Start where you are and do what you can
      and ALWAYS clear it with your DOCTOR!

    Anyone notice in the first few seconds of the video,theres a red orb popping out of the bushes on his right shoulder( the left side from viewers prespective),take a look,the red orb pops out twice then goes back into the bushes.
    It's weird.

    Have you tried stroops bands? I've heard that are safer due to the fabric on the outside of the band. Do you know if they still work as effectivley?

    Great examples of exercise moves but you really need to slow down your rep speed. You're basically guaranteeing injury.

    How do you go about anchoring a triple band handle if you want to do single handed exercises?
