No one can tell a story and portray emotions like Geoff. He's just phenomenal

He's one of a kind. That's for sure.

I feel that’s also true for Cesar, at least as far as portraying emotions. His performance in Creep ripped my heart out. He was phenomenal in Can’t Make You Love Me as well, I just wanted to give him a big hug as soon as he started singing.

Always so musically astounding, but I love the continuity with the costumes from Misty Mountains. He's now done songs from the first two Hobbit movies and he really needs to finish the trilogy with The Last Goodbye. I also love how he's keeping us guessing which octave he's going to use. Eli did the lighting, but he couldn't be there for the shoot, so he put it on a phone app that Kathy could use while filming. It was just the two of them that day.

That's awesome! I love the teamwork right there.

This was filmed in Pattycake Productions studios (co-owned by Layne Stein and Tony Wakim (former VoicePlay member)). The "forest" was a picture/print on a fabric backing, and the boulders were set pieces from Pattycake. Geoff and his wife Kathy spent several hours getting the moss on the boulders and floor covering set up on the day of the shoot. Eli programmed the lights, but set up an app for Kathy to control them because he couldn't be there the day of the shoot. The hairpieces/mustaches/beards were saved by makeup artist Rick Underwood from Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold. The costumes also were saved from that shoot by Kathy, with a few additional touches (and a couple of extra weapons) added for good measure.
IMO, this is the best productions Geoff has done as a solo artist - everything just came together beautifully for the overall look and feel of the video, and of course Geoff allowing the dwarves to show off their individual vocal ranges was the crowning touch!

    Awesome reaction as always Jeffrey.
This was at Pattycake Productions where he and Voiceplay film most of their videos.
The background is a backdrop. The logs are a prop. All the lighting was done by Eli including a flames in the campfire.
Its amazing what these guys go through for their videos. Weeks and sometimes months of hard work. Then a ful day or two of filming. Just for 4-6 minutes.

I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction! And yeah, they film production. You either love it or hate it 😅 I'm always fascinated by the stuff they do!

@@JeffreyHackReactsHe has done many videos outdoors as well - this causes a load of difficulties (gnats, bugs, birds, ... and always the problem of light: clouds and that sun is moving!!😮) So: best way to control as much as possible and that's filming in a studio!

Pattycake Productions owned by Tony Wakim and Layne Stein is the studio that is used predominantly by VoicePlay and Geoff. It is located in a shopping mall and you can catch some of their minis/shorts in the mall interior, such as Wellerman (outstanding), Peaches (Geoff hits new high note of Bb5). Drunken Sailor was the latest VoicePlay done in that studio with Jose Rosario, Jr and a blast from the past, Bucky, who used to be with them when it was 4:2:Five before VoicePlay, is the Drunken Sailor. It is a delight, Geoff does a short tribute to Alan Rickman in Robin Hood which is followed by Eli's line which I won't spoil for you.

Oddly this is one of my favorites that he does as a solo. I just think the register jumps and immaculate care spent on dynamics was awesome in this. The only other one I think is this good is either Ain't no sunshine when she's gone or blackbird

As people have said, there is a backdrop used here at Pattycake Studios. The large rocks are new; Pattycake just had them made for their Fish Out Of Water (Ariel) video. But already they’ve had several customers wanting to use them for a video. Geoff and Kathy dressed them with moss, but that’s just one look they can have.

I just like to think that in the end, there is that last ME ("I hope that you remember...me."), but that low, so we cant hear it.

That is probably a bit more upbeat than my take when listening (as opposed to watching). I tend to hear it Smaug having scooped him up and swallowed him whole.

It adds to the emotional impact of this cover that three of the four characters whom he is portraying died in the coming battle.

I just love this from Jeff I know this song is from the Hobbit but a month ago there was a fire in Lahaina Hawaii these words bring me to tears these words remind me of that brothers and sisters die together😢😢😢😢 if you listen to other singers check out Dan Vasc sing I See Fire also

  • @christinestromberg4057

As has been said below, it's a backdrop, I would iagine that It all has to be set up before he takes his place each time to film each part so it can be seamlessly edited together.

Have you see the version of this song by a cappella singer Peter Hollens? In it own way it is just as amazing. I have to admit that one is my favorite probably only because I saw it first.
