My only complaints are it's not an action "RPG." and two it seems like some of the bosses the slams don't work on. Now I get you can't slam certain bosses like the turtle but it just seems like a wasted talent if it only works in regular combat. 3 I wanna try it before I say I don't like it it might make it better but I wish there was an option to autolck enemies off and on so you could try both ways.

The draw distance is absolutely insane and goes a long way to making this footage look as good as it does. If it actually looks like this at release and can keep a stable 60fps, it'll set a new standard, at least in terms of graphics.
Don’t you remember how good black desert looked when it first came out compared to other games? This company has the best graphics / optimization ratio I’ve ever seen
TLDW: Crimson Desert is a VERY ambitious game coming from a very capable team. Other than the writing in some cases, it seems that the game is extremely impressive and melds some of the best parts of Zelda, Assassin’s Creed, and the Witcher. While I haven’t personally played the game, I feel that they have been extremely transparent and willing to let the public see the game at various trade shows, which is a very good sign. We will continue to keep a close eye on it, but as for right now I think it’s perfectly reasonable to be intrigued and excited for this. It would not surprise me at all if this ends up being another big hit for a relatively unknown eastern studio.

The game sure does look promising with its stunning visuals and immersive gameplay like Zelda, Witcher, Dragons Dogma etc, but I just hope that it delivers.
that's kind of what worries me about this game and the hype surrounding it. "VISUALS ARE AMAZING AND FEATURES OMG". I don't know, graphics look generic. The particles are literally just the default unreal-generated particles, and the graphics are more focused on looking realistic than actually having a defined art style. It looks like every other AAA game that's been released in recent years. And the features seem way too ambitious that I feel like there's no way most of these wouldn't fail in actual gameplay. Just to remind you, trailers cherry pick what works and what doesn't; even if that trailer is an hour long. Overall, just looks like a game made to hype with these hyper-realistic visuals and pretty sceneries with all the features you've come to love from all the games that came before it that would definitely require the latest gaming hardware to even run. It really does look like a light show that tries the most basic things to impress the audience, and it works. I'd be skeptical, too. Not to mention, it's made by a company that runs an MMO that claims to be a sandbox minus the sandbox.
The only skepticism we should have about this game is greed & microtransactions. I have faith in the game itself they were confident enough to show 52 minutes of gameplay. Only the executives can make this fail.
Why Microtransactions are bad? You get cool skins and weapons and you support the developers and the franchise. Also no one forces any one to buy the Microtransactions. For Example, Ac Valhalla has Microtransactions but the strongest weapons are free to be found on the map ( Varin's axe and House carl's axe) while the skins and the weapons that are payed for are niche from a gameplay perspective. Also you can buy Microtransactions in AC Valhalla with opal which is earned for completing contracts in game for free.
@@fat4eyes Bullshit. The excessive grind is there _only_ for those that look to go into PvP. BDO is very well balanced in terms of progression if you just wanna get to Ascension/Succession as a casual player. I'd know. The end-game is more grindy than most MMOs, but the "exploration" part of it is way more forgiving than most others-even western stuff like WoW. It's really only there to incentivize players to spend money after they ran out of novel content. And as Crimson Desert is a singleplayer game, they simply don't have to do that.
The (former) Publisher of BDO, Kakao Games, is terrible with microtransactions and greed. But Pearl Abyss, the developer, has since acquired the full publishing rights (outside of Korea, iirc), and has made a fair few player-friendly moves since then. And Crimson Desert is also fully self-published. So BDO's greedy history should not be what we base our expectations on.
Pearl Abyss has an office 5 minutes from my house (Gwacheon, Korea) and I saw that they are recruiting translators for this title. Perhaps there is some hope that dialogue will improve if they hire the right people.
Anyone notice lately that youtube's bitrate has become so poor, so bad that 4k looks 1080 now? It's actually been annoying me a lot lately, every time I watch a video I'm convinced that I'm watching it on lower quality. And then I checke the gear icon and it says 4k 60.

With that quest system, I'm curious if you can just... avoid questgivers altogether and just bump into things, "solve" them, and then get rewards from the quest givers the first time you meet them, or at the very least their situation has changed because what they wanted to happen happened
@@huskytzu7709Not really i did one quest in RDR2 were a guy wanted me to get Rid of Some guys causing issues i did before even getting the quest and he came up and thanked me and gave money. if you get the quest off it turns out differnt as you end up in Quick draw duel. @@huskytzu7709 There are games that do that, Skyrim comes to mind. "Help me out with this" "I did it already" "Thank you!" sort of thing. As long as the act itself is rewarding, though, it's not necessary
Pearl Abyss made one of the most popular MMOs. I have full confidence that Crimson Desert (a singleplayer game) is what they show. What I have doubts on is whether the story will actually be engaging enough to complete it.
This. I remember when Crimson Desert was first announced, and I said to myself "This just looks like Black Desert". The story will make or break this game.
@@kylehues8465 Considering how awful it is in BDO and its pacing that moves like room temperature amber, I don't know why you think it would be any better. They should have focused on making a game that didnt play exactly like the friggin mmo.
@@jayg.2066 I could be wrong, considering that after 28 feckin hours the only story I got was "theres a spoopy demon assisting you and he's sooooo mischievous!" and "there are people that need your help with goblins or some shit" The story doesnt move at all, so who knows, maybe it gets good, but I can only think of Shakespeare's line from polonius "brevity is the soul of wit". I'll also point out that you dont need cutscenes, lip sync, or dialogue animations, I am a fan of the zelda series which went 25 years without any of that while delivering serviceable stories, and Ace attorney, which still doesn't do anything of the sort, and has great stories.
@@jayg.2066 Nah, that's not the only thing wrong with BDO story. The actual narrative being told is a mess that's 70% showing you new grind spots, 20% showing you mysteries it will lose interest in couple hours later, leaving them unresolved, and 10% extremely surface level character writing, and if you're not speaking Korean (maybe if you are, idk, I don't), all that is in package of Google translate level clunky sentence structure. If I was a betting woman, Crimson Desert narrative will be somewhat more coherent, but I expect it will land on 'very mid'
On the monetization aspect, I think an interesting comparison might be to look at Stellar Blade and the devs (shift up). The Korean game market has been changing a lot in recent years and we might be seeing companies that were making gacha/mobile/mmorpg games (all with heavy monetization), leveraging those to have the resources necessary for higher quality "marquis" products. Products that build your reputation. This would be a great way for those devs avoid becoming stale while getting some good coverage online. Shift Up made one of the most egregious gacha title out there but they also made Stellar Blade which is definitely not aggressively monetized.
As someone who was working on the game, the studio and this game has so many issues, it's terrible. The last 2 writers quit due to sexual harassment and the game was originally something completely different, which is why they don't have anything but some boss scenes
@@Nimora why are you no longer working there? And do you have any other reason why the game will be terrible besides the writing? The writing isn’t exactly why people played black desert.
@@Crablover132 they clarified multiple times that this isn’t a RPG. It’s an action adventure game. They are leaning away from RPG because they know it isn’t what they are good at.
As someone that played Black Desert Online on day one and for a couple of years and now I occasionally check it out to see what's new, I have no doubts that this game is real and will look amazing when it launches. Black Desert is visually amazing, especially for an MMORPG. It was ahead in visuals by a mile when it was first released and it's only gotten better. With Crimson Desert being a single player game and not an MMORPG, I don't have the worries that I would if they were making another MMORPG. I don't have worries that this game will be grindy. Black Desert is an absolute grind fest but it's also not a single player game. I also don't have to worry about Crimson Desert being pay 2 win like Black Desert cause again, it's a single player game. The only thing we have to worry about is them releasing a completed game with a compelling story. Black Desert's storyline has been changed around quite a lot since it's release, it's gone through entire reworks of systems, questlines and such. Granted, Black Desert is an MMORPG and should be ever changing and being added to but I just hope that they don't do stuff like that to Crimson Desert, a single player game, and they're able to put out a great story (Black Desert's story can be kinda wonky and boring at times, and was especially boring at release). I do hope that they do improve the facial animations to be like those in the trailers from years ago and I'd also like them to add some variations to the sounds enemies make because I watched the whole 50min gameplay video and all of the enemies make the exact same "auugh" sound when they're hit and get thrown around. Though that being said about the facial animations.. it's still a MASSIVE upgrade from the overall animations and cutscenes that're in Black Desert.
The 3 things I didn’t particularly like from what they’ve shown: -The facial animations: the look pretty basic, but to be expected from an rpg -The sprinting: it looks alright in battle as you’re sprinting towards the next foe, but in exploration it looks weird, out of place and kind of over the top -Everything looking so clean: the game looks pretty new and shiny, as other commenters have said, and I don’t know if it fits the vibe Overall this looks really nice though and I am sure that this could get a GOTY nomination if the devs succeed with their vision
Honestly, devs that just showcase the game, no bullsh*t talk,This is a green flag. Sure, this is not perfect but at least they don't lie about their product. Unless they make a downgrade buggy mess at launch.
I love the “no auto lock” or “no camera lock” aspect. It adds a type of skill and feeling of accomplishment when you hit those nice shots that the game didn’t guarantee for you.
What really put Peal Abyss on the radar for me was the insane character creation, which the industry still hasn't really beat all these years later. More than a bit disappointed their next game doesn't have that feature at all.
What most people who’ve never played Black Desert Online might not know is that the game has one of the best character creation systems of all time - so much so that I initially bought the game specifically to make rpg characters for my own projects. With that in mind, it would be an absolute shame if we do not get to create our own characters in this story, using the same or even just slightly upgraded system. But so far, all I’ve seen is the same dude in all of the gameplay footage, so I’m a little worried. If you cant create a protagonist as iconic as Geralt, 2B, or Aloy (and I don’t have confidence that Pearl Abyss can), then you need to let the players create their own characters to fill in the rpg elements themselves.
Having watched fextralife's gameplay impressions, he did mention that there is no character creation. Definitely a huge shame as it's a super enjoyable part for me, and i miss out on most great character creators because well i don't play multiplayer games.
I think the reason this game looks so impossible is that the devs seem to be VERY economical with their priorities. I think far too many games nowadays focus on the absolutely meaningless details. Take something simple like the belts and buckles at 15:46. Those looks so flat. But does it matter? The rest looks pretty good. The motion looks good. You probably didn't even notice. But most AAA devs would cope and seethe seeing and not "fixing" that, spending a week remodelling and making it work. You can find these kinds of "shortcuts" everywhere in the footage. But they are more like... An artist choosing not to render every single point in the painting, only the parts in focus.
In the development process that's definitely true, but things like belts seem somewhat odd to not have physics. Or, for that matter, animals when they're being carried? Just become frozen. With how much attention is paid to all the particles and the fur simulation and such, i don't really see them picking between which details to forgo. Though evidently, as you said. I didn't notice, and even if i likely did if i were playing myself, it'd probably be nothing but a nitpick.
Just because particle sims are better now, doesnt meant you need to turn it all up to 11. I felt sick watching the gameplay because of how all the particles just read as noise.
Ghost of Tsushima added lock on later but I really liked it before that too. The director said it was to add to the feel of being a samurai in a samurai movie where the protagonist often switches targets back and forth through the fight, which translated amazingly to GoT
To be fair, I've played Black Desert about a year ago the last time, and while yes, it is monetitzed out the wazoo, but they've made it much more playable for people who don't want to pay or pay very little, compared to when they had a Western publisher. They often have gift packs, you can get a lot of stuff you normally need to pay for as gifts for regular play etc.. The only thing where I really felt restricted as far as content goes is the houses and ressource management you can do, where you really only have a chance to get the good stuff (at least in my experience) when you pay to get it.
As far as i know, there is no "levels", and you can find and equip weapons and armor in the world, even taking them from bosses you've beaten. Maybe you have a skill tree instead but we haven't seen that yet
I think it actually has a lock-on feature, if you look at around 20:15 the white dot at the center of the screen goes to the head of the enemy and then it comes back, it also happens when de MC is dueling the knight in town.
Ngl, the ability to yeet myself off a mountain (and not end up a puddle when squishy character meets immovable earth) is always going to be a major point in the pro column for me.
Black desert online completely blew me away in 2016 and this game looks to be in line to do the same. The graphics look extremely similar to bdo but a natural evolution to it as well. Very interested to see where this goes
@@manuelrapino5917 That's not true at all. Crimson Desert uses the same engine as BDO (or rather an updated/optimized version), where every armor piece has visual degradation. (Most people turn that feature off, because they like to look shiny all the time.) And Pearl Abyss is VERY good at outfit/armor design. My guess is that Crimson Desert just isn't far enough into the "polish" phase yet to focus on those bits of visual realism.
Been recently working on my first playthrough of rdr2, and besides some of the gameplay issues i have with it, i don't get that feeling of "play and get lost in the world" And i think this is in large part because RDR2 like many open world games, including crimson desert or witcher 3 etc. feature too much guidance on where content is. Watched some youtube video a while back talking about how seeing map markers with highlighted "points of interest" telling you to go there to find the content, which makes the game feel less like a free to use chef's kitchen and more like a buffet. And that's a huge reason why i think games like skyrim damn near perfected it, because besides floating markers hinting at a nearby ruin or camp, exploration is entirely personal incentive. Like Luke said, "see a structure in the distance and be intrigued enough to go see what it is" kind of deal. Elden ring did that rather well too.
@@Verchiel_ How far you a long in the world? So lets take a second to realize that Luke Stephens said himself that rdr2 is one of those games you can get lost in. I happen to agree with him and that is one of my most favorite games to date. My point is that there is 99.9% chance that its one of those games because so many respected people in the video game industry have described it as just that. Just give it some time buddy. Go check it out and explore. There's soooooooo much content and interesting things that happen in the game Also a point I want to emphasize on is Luke Stephens is a great judge/ analyst of video games. Thats not really an opinion as the numbers and subscribers he has is clear evidence of that.
Seems like it, the hunting, fishing, and also how he carries the animal carcass, the horse taming. This game definitely took many ideas from RDR2. Its basically Assassins Creed meets RDR2.
8:30 Yeah, wince youtube removed the resolution to implement those new options videos usually default to 720p (even if you set highest quality on settings)
I don’t normally leave comments but I can really appreciate a “review” or overview of a game through a skeptical lens. Not a lot of people can do this without being overly critical or overly enamored with a game now a days and I really do appreciate this gentleman’s views when discussing a game that he seems interested in since we’ve all been burned by games that did not live up to what we were hoping for.
Black Desert online is far from being the most greedy MMO. You can easily get a massive amount of free stuff that otherwise are locked in the casshshop if you play the even. They give high tier mount, outfit, item for house, XP booster (massive one like a 530%), and many other minor stuff. People have always said this for BDO because they never played it and stopped at the cash shop. Because someone is in the cash shop dont mean that you can easily get it while playing. People also ignore that BDO is one of the rare MMO that have people who only play to commerce, some focus on fishing or going after whale, and some just do their farm stuff.
I'm glad that they have come up with very original names for their games. It really keeps me guessing about what the next game they are going to make is going to be called.
20:30 There seems to be a lock-on actually, you can see it in the footage you put on screen. I don't know if this is an input or if it's dynamic but the crosshair seems to be moving from target to target when the camera turns toward them and then resets when there seems to be no enemy in the center of the screen.
To be completely honest... I don't care what the story is like. I don't care how good the boss fight will or will not be. The game already had my money when I saw how big the world is. Just let me run around in that, run from city to city, beat up some goons and monsters on the way. Let me find some nice loot (the thing Dragon's Dogma 2 failed to do) and I am good. I don't need anything else in a game. lol. A good compelling story or side quests are a nice bonus, though.
My hope is that the monetization side of things is similar to the difference between Stellar Blade and Nikke, where they understand this is a very different type of product and should have everything included in the box price
I don't know how the game will look on release, but if someone has to zoom in on a high res video, just to find some fuzziness to knit pick, then they are picking too much knit.
@18:50 regarding multiple quests with one answer, do you lose out on rewards if you don't talk to every npc beforehand? Might lead to people holding out and grinding npcs before doing anything. Also dialogue. Will someone say something like "thanks for doing my quest" without talking to them previously? Etc.
Well to be fair, Stellar Blade was one of the best releases this year, but Shift Up's other game (NIKKE) is a gacha, with a lot of ways to get your wallet crying. That being said, there was no extra scummy microtransactions in Stellar Blade (even tho they could just sell ever living crap out of Eve skins). I'm really positive about Crimson Desert being just one time purchase, it would one up Capcom's dragon dogma from start, which had paid teleports and so on.
Something I'm deathly curious about is how gear progression, levels (if there are any) and overall exploration rewards factor in. If I explore a cool cave and all I get out of it is a potion or something, I'm gonna get pissed. Also, they have been ADAMANT in letting Kliff only use a sword and a shield as his weapon. Can we use other weapons at all or are we locked to sword and board? I don't mind if we are, but the UI is super unclear about whether or not we can change our playstyle. Do we learn new moves? How's character growth gonna be like, gameplay wise? Things to consider.
Remember Pearl Abyss also had a project that looks like a Pokemon, yeah it's been years since they announce that so I doubt they could finish this one as well. lol.
I'm interested but i've rarely seen anything as "bullshotty" as this. There have been plenty of tense, eventful, impressive game trailers shown over the past few years that just lead to nowhere.
It looks extremely interesting to me. I hope this is not an MMO, or multiplayer. I just found the info I need. It is single player. Now I am truly excited!
If the monetization is like BDO I am never touching this. Don’t even care if the gameplay is amazing. Saying that game is predatory is putting it suuuper mildly
Totally agree. MMO players are more accustomed to dropping a ton of cash on a game they are playing, but if they think the same thing is gonna work with single player gamers they are sorely mistaken.
@@Athasin Far cry. Assassin's creed. Star wars outlaws. Dragon's dogma 2. It has been proven time and time again, people are willing to buy skins and "season passes" for singleplayer games.
@@Verchiel_ dragon's dogma 2 is the worst exemple you could chose. It's the less greedy game capcom made in the past decade, everythings you can buy with realy money are extremely easy to get from playing. this is the one thing that cant be used against dragon's dogma 2.
I feel like up-scaling have impacted the industry rather negatively. Some PS4 games actually look nice and run amazingly without any need of DLSS. RE4 on my PC runs at max 4K almost 100FPS and that game looks awesome fidelity wise. I just think there should be a collective cap on fidelity by the devs to determine a normalized quality level without relying too much on upscaling methods while also maintaining satisfying performance at the very least 60 FPS.
Man, I've played BDO for a while and sincerely, I trust Pearl Abyss with making something amazing, even if their storytelling is quite lacking, BDO has so many things to do and looks so pretty, you can pretty much immerse yourself in the game enough not to care about the rest, and I usually hate MMO's, my dream is that I could have something just like BDO but offline The combat doesn't quite land there, it's far from being the same, but still, everything else just >seems< to be everything I've wanted, so regardless of it's potential weaknesses, I'm very eager for this game
I think it's always worth considering an example like cyberpunk (which I think is a good game for the most part) where the vertical slice shown was arguably the most complex and branching questline in the base game, which set an unrealistic expectation for the rest of the game. The quest line with the bandit camp definitely sounds cool, but will they have continued that type of story telling throughout potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay?
In the dev archives they said they gave every side mission a purpose it seems there putting there all into this there’s only a couple missions I seen people able to play so far.
I played BDO a little, by a little I mean a little too much (48.080hrs yes, forty eight thousand) to know by now that Pearl Abyss is really good in building hype for things, but really bad at delivering them. I'm not hating (i still play that god forsaken game), just keeping it real.
I was extremely skeptical of CD when I first saw it and they talked up everything in it. But this past Gamescom, how confident they were in not just everything they showed off, the volume, the quality, and everyones hands on impressions. Im more than convinced this game is everything said and more. That year they took off, they must have really knuckled down and worked hard on this. It even makes me excited for the potential of DokeV
I like how luke mentioned how we dont get enough good triple a new games that are not sequels and stuff, but then immediately goes to praise BG3. Theres a 3 there because is the third entry in a series aka a sequel
Tbh I’m kinda hyped but the only thing for me it’s that is more focused on Adventure Open World, than RPG Open World, it’s not like the end of the world but at least for me it would be cool to have a character creator, different play styles like weapons, magic, character customization with races, kinda The Elder Scrolls series, but hey, so far looking good
Even watching on a 4K monitor in full 4K quality, YT's compression is still very rough. Anything snow or rain just always looks like trash, same goes for smaller particles or other effects. Rule of thumb is if it's small enough that you wouldn't see it anymore if you applied a strong blur to a frame, it's going to look like shit on TH-cam.
BDO is heavily monetized, yes, but it is also a good game at its core. Good combat, good environment, good graphics for its time, esp for MMO standard, overall a great experience. Hope Crimson Desert can be my next feel good game
I'm interested, but lame stories are something that kinda make me less excited. Writing is really important to me, so Avowed is still the game that makes me most excited for 2025. I guess I'll wait and see.
The thing about the quests sounds too good to be true. I wish it was a thing in games so badly, like multiple people asking you to deal with a problem, and if you miss one potential quest giver but complete the objective anyway they just thank you when you talk to them instead of paying like the ones that asked before you did the objective
The only thing I'd nitpick from the gameplay is your character seems to be floating. If you get hit, cast skills that move wide, your character slides. It's as if your foot isn't touching the ground.
I hope they have some means of multiplayer. If it's a system in which you invite your friends and they can play as one of Kliff's clan members then that would be awesome. I say this because before, we have seen ganeplay of the player using the orc and female characters in combat. Im not asking for something huge, but a 4 player coop where you can play withthe host and do his quets sound nice.
I've seen a *ton* of "too good to be true" games over my twenty plus years of playing video games; in all that time, there have been exactly two that actually lived up to the hype: Dragon Age Origins, and Baldur's Gate 3. @@dr_diddy theyve shown like 2 hrs of gameplay it looks great (well see tho)
The only thing probably will not be good will be the story
since we know PA
that's kind of what worries me about this game and the hype surrounding it.
Skyrim meets BotW meets The Witcher 3 meets Prey..... Color me intrigued.
Remember it's made by a Korean MMO dev. It's not just microtransactions that can be a problem, but hellish K-style grind. Wait for reviews.
@@fat4eyes so u have problem with grind in singleplayer game? it is single player and usually grind at rpg action adventure is a must.
The village scenes remind me a lot about Skyrim. 13 years and you can still see the influence.
Skyrim's legacy is that it is the base and inspiration of literally every open world rpg you see today. From rdr2 to dragons dogma and what not
Pearl Abyss has an office 5 minutes from my house (Gwacheon, Korea) and I saw that they are recruiting translators for this title. Perhaps there is some hope that dialogue will improve if they hire the right people.

With that quest system, I'm curious if you can just... avoid questgivers altogether and just bump into things, "solve" them, and then get rewards from the quest givers the first time you meet them, or at the very least their situation has changed because what they wanted to happen happened
I assume you would need to find the quest givers to trigger events for the quest
thats just weird imo. They would not be obligated to reward you if they never hired you in the first place.
KCD2 will have design like that not sure about.

@@daniel8181 BDO's story was only awful because there are barely any cutscenes, no lip-sync, no dialogue animations, etc.
I’ll always respect studios that are super transparent. Even if their games are bad.
Cool Gazi’s from DL1 pfp :)
@@49HEALTH BD's selling point isn't the same as a standalone action RPG, most people don't play MMO for the story either so what's your point exactly?
Though that being said about the facial animations.. it's still a MASSIVE upgrade from the overall animations and cutscenes that're in Black Desert.
man i love having so many particle effects from a basic attack that i cannot see what the fuck is happening
Yeah, adds atmosphere
I would say they should replace the sword particle effects with streak effects.
If they do the same way than BDO, you will be able to reduce it in tge options
I think you just need to fix your eyes man, they aren't that insane
The 3 things I didn’t particularly like from what they’ve shown:
-The facial animations: the look pretty basic, but to be expected from an rpg
-The sprinting: it looks alright in battle as you’re sprinting towards the next foe, but in exploration it looks weird, out of place and kind of over the top
-Everything looking so clean: the game looks pretty new and shiny, as other commenters have said, and I don’t know if it fits the vibe
Overall this looks really nice though and I am sure that this could get a GOTY nomination if the devs succeed with their vision
i mean aesthetics are personal thing and faces and animations yeah not pleasant to look at lol no reflections on skin aswell only in cut scenes
For me it was the disgusting camera which felt way too high for some reason

It's an rpg like rdr2. You get fixed characters like John and Arthur
That fight at 13:00 reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus 👀
That's because it is, lol.
Just because particle sims are better now, doesnt meant you need to turn it all up to 11. I felt sick watching the gameplay because of how all the particles just read as noise.
HOPEFULLY , you can turn it off
You can definitely turn it off if you play on PC
The very wide scope and ultra detail of the draw distance, including the shadows of every tree, is indeed truly impressive.
This game is 100% going to be capped at 30FPS on consoles. If it isn’t then we’re gonna have another ac unity or cyberpunk situation
Honestly the only things right now I'm curious about are the progression and the monetization. Otherwise this is a game I really want to be hyped for.
Want to be hyped for, or hyped for??? Make up your mind foo

Am I the only one that is bugged out by how shiny and new everything looks? From the NPC clothing to the houses, walls, etc?
In plywell people have a high standard of cleaning and they always like to dress up fresh
that's what you get when you use the standard pre-baked assets and effects that every other korean/chinese-style game uses.
Finally. Thought im the only one.
I guess medieval stuff should have been new in some point in story 🤣🤣
I just want it to have that red dead factor where you feel like you can just get lost like what you were talking about
Been recently working on my first playthrough of rdr2, and besides some of the gameplay issues i have with it, i don't get that feeling of "play and get lost in the world"
And i think this is in large part because RDR2 like many open world games, including crimson desert or witcher 3 etc. feature too much guidance on where content is.
Also a point I want to emphasize on is Luke Stephens is a great judge/ analyst of video games. Thats not really an opinion as the numbers and subscribers he has is clear evidence of that.
Seems like it, the hunting, fishing, and also how he carries the animal carcass, the horse taming. This game definitely took many ideas from RDR2. Its basically Assassins Creed meets RDR2.

This looks like what we'd hoped a next gen Elder Scrolls would eventually become. Here's hoping it can live up to the hype, and has mod support.
If I hadn't put a couple hundred hours into Black Desert, I wouldn't have nearly as much faith in this game actually functioning.
BDO's world looks amazing for a game that old, Crimson Desert run on an improved version of the same engine
21:10 Did he just RKO that guy? 😂
If this game turns out to be great that will be another win coming from a SK developer these guys have been are on a roll so far.

Totally agree. MMO players are more accustomed to dropping a ton of cash on a game they are playing, but if they think the same thing is gonna work with single player gamers they are sorely mistaken.

Hopefully the pop ins aren't as bad as in black desert. It's so bad it's immersion breaking
Hope they release a demo..!
Man, I've played BDO for a while and sincerely, I trust Pearl Abyss with making something amazing, even if their storytelling is quite lacking, BDO has so many things to do and looks so pretty, you can pretty much immerse yourself in the game enough not to care about the rest, and I usually hate MMO's, my dream is that I could have something just like BDO but offline
The combat doesn't quite land there, it's far from being the same, but still, everything else just >seems< to be everything I've wanted, so regardless of it's potential weaknesses, I'm very eager for this game
Well it looks better than Starload-field
I think it's always worth considering an example like cyberpunk (which I think is a good game for the most part) where the vertical slice shown was arguably the most complex and branching questline in the base game, which set an unrealistic expectation for the rest of the game.
The quest line with the bandit camp definitely sounds cool, but will they have continued that type of story telling throughout potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay?
In the dev archives they said they gave every side mission a purpose it seems there putting there all into this there’s only a couple missions I seen people able to play so far.
Yes this is the next one I’m interested in.
I just need it to run decent enough cause those particle effects are BONKERS. Need it.
I played BDO a little, by a little I mean a little too much (48.080hrs yes, forty eight thousand) to know by now that Pearl Abyss is really good in building hype for things, but really bad at delivering them. I'm not hating (i still play that god forsaken game), just keeping it real.
Dawg that’s 5 and a half years
You need help, brother.
But yes, Pearl Abyss is the "ideas guy" of game developers.
Looks awesome, but can you customize your character? Or you just pick pre-made one?
I like how luke mentioned how we dont get enough good triple a new games that are not sequels and stuff, but then immediately goes to praise BG3. Theres a 3 there because is the third entry in a series aka a sequel
Dropping 50mins of gameplay, shows the devs trust their product
the question Luke, is what is sitting in that can to the right of the screen? :)
I hate boss fights but looking forward to play this on my plain PS5 . Thanks for the video❤
I am curious.. What is the purpose of two keyboards on the desk?
BDO is heavily monetized, yes, but it is also a good game at its core. Good combat, good environment, good graphics for its time, esp for MMO standard, overall a great experience. Hope Crimson Desert can be my next feel good game
I'm interested, but lame stories are something that kinda make me less excited. Writing is really important to me, so Avowed is still the game that makes me most excited for 2025.
I guess I'll wait and see.
Luke have you played Black Desert? If yes, what did you think?
Any magic!?!? or just melee/bow?
The thing about the quests sounds too good to be true. I wish it was a thing in games so badly, like multiple people asking you to deal with a problem, and if you miss one potential quest giver but complete the objective anyway they just thank you when you talk to them instead of paying like the ones that asked before you did the objective
The only thing I'd nitpick from the gameplay is your character seems to be floating. If you get hit, cast skills that move wide, your character slides.
It's as if your foot isn't touching the ground.
The game will be at twitch con too, they want everyone to try the game
I hope they have some means of multiplayer. If it's a system in which you invite your friends and they can play as one of Kliff's clan members then that would be awesome. I say this because before, we have seen ganeplay of the player using the orc and female characters in combat. Im not asking for something huge, but a 4 player coop where you can play withthe host and do his quets sound nice.
a game announced 5 years ago is going to be released (maybe) next year. could just end the video there IMO.
🤓
I've seen a *ton* of "too good to be true" games over my twenty plus years of playing video games; in all that time, there have been exactly two that actually lived up to the hype: Dragon Age Origins, and Baldur's Gate 3. All the other games promising something novel proved to be just regular ole' games of one type or another.
