    Thanks for the great video and advice! I just came back from a safari in Kenya. I did not take my binoculars only the camera and it worked out FANTASTIC. On the trip, I said, that I'd come back and let you know that it was fabulous advice! So true! I didn't need them at all. I used my phone or camera. I really appreciated the insight you gave me. I didn't pack as much either.

    Thank you!! Your video is just what I needed👍🏻 I leave June 2 for Botswana, S Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe with a couple of days in Cape Town at the end. I have a 33# weight limit and that is my challenge 😮

      On our safari, there were blankets for the morning so keep that in mind for the morning cold! I hope you have a great time and get to see a rhino!

    So happy I found your video. We are heading to Krueger this week on our honeymoon. I'm struggling getting all my stuff in one Duffle bag. Maybe I don't need several outfits for each day. hahaha. Staying at Tinga Lodge and I'm so excited. Any other safari tips? Thank for the helpful video!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest, on safari, I could have worn the same outfit every single day. You sit in the truck, you don’t get out until lunch, and you are comfortable. That was my biggest takeaway when it came to packing. It can also get a little boring between animal sightings, so bring something to do, or take a little snooze :)

      @tiffanyriley3162 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the advice. Hard to pack for Capetown and Krueger in a small duffel bag. I want cute clothes to wear while in Capetown not my muted safari clothes. hahaha Going to repack today and take stuff out.

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why only a small duffel? We had a carry-on bag like normal!

      Since we are taking a small prop plane that is what we were told. Soft sided duffel under 35lbs. Struggle to pack for 3 weeks.

      @@tiffanyriley3162 definitely get safari clothes into one smaller packing cube and cape town clothes in the other. It will help separate them and condense. And I love to travel in merino wool clothes, because you can rewear them a lot and not have to wash clothes. Mine are from wool& and I have cute dresses and shirts and pants

    Thank you for sharing your packing tips. We are taking the family to Kenya and Tanzania in July and I’ve been watching many videos to learn what we need and don’t need. We are also working with a terrific travel company called Go2Africa. They have been simply amazing! Did you bring a dust jacket for your camera? From what I’ve learned, it’s a good idea. Also, do you have a brand of tripod you like best?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did have a soft camera case and I wrapped it in a fabric shower cap if I wasn’t using that, as a cover. In the vehicle, you really just need something sturdy to help rest when you want clear shots. Even if it was a short mono pod or gorilla pod!

    Seasons differ. Winter can be cold and summer can be really hot. Winter has very few bugs but from October to April bugs and mosquitoes are a real thing

    What camera and lens did you take for photos?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a very very old canon rebel and it was the 55-200 lens :) I wish I had an ever longer one! Sometimes the animals are so far away, and sometimes they are so close and you don’t want to switch lenses in the dusty environment

    I have been on 7 safaris so far and I can tell you it's better to have that stuff (hat, bug stuff, etc) and not use it that to leave it and need it. Layers are best. I usually wear poly/spandex next to my skin as it draws sweat away from you and is easy to wash (like a sink) I wear several of the same shirt and T and pants. (I wear "tactical pants" as they wear like iron and tend to not to pick up burrs or thorns or riders) By wearing the same looking clothes your pictures will have a certain continuity and you need not wonder what to wear today. I bring a down puffy jacket and a Columbia fall jacket as the puffy stores easily and it both light And warm (AM and PM are unpredictable temp wise) and the Columbia has great pockets and it water resistant.

      We have the Sony ZV1! We love it. Very easy. And there’s tons of tutorials on TH-cam too!

      For the Safari, I used an old Canon DSLR that they don’t make anymore with a 75-300 lens. Something comparable for a safari would be:

    You need binoculars. Krugar is a very specific situation of dense vegetation along roads you cant get off of. Any place you can iff road and actually help guides look for animals, many of which might be football fields away, yes bonocs help. Also if its getting that cold in the morning theres no way there will be a lot of mosquitoes. Yes prolonged exposure to cold at 65 is very different than short exposure at 30 degrees and can make you more miserable. All of this is common sense lol

    • @ItsTheKellys

      I didn’t use my binoculars once 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I made this because alot of the information I read before I went made me pack a certain way, and then post trip, there were things I didn’t use, so I was simply sharing what I learned as someone that did it for the first time.
