My daughter is 2 I started playing this for her at a week old. It's her favorite song when she's upset or tired or cranky, as soon as she hears it everything goes away and she just listens to the music and lyrics.

I first heard the version by the Clancy Brothers, which is good but they totally mess up the one verse by singing "I will build my love a tower, by yon pure crystal fountain, and on it I will build all the flowers of the mountain" which doesn't even make sense. I'm glad someone did it right while still sounding amazing!

    Will ye go lassie, go?
    And we'll all go together
    To pluck wild mountain thyme
    All around the blooming heather
    Will ye go lassie, go?
I will build my love a bower
    Near yon pure crystal fountain
And on it I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain
    Will ye go lassie, go?
    And we'll all go together
    To pluck wild mountain thyme
    All around the blooming heather
    Will ye go lassie, go?
If my true love she were gone
    I would surely find another
    Where wild mountain thyme
    Grows around the blooming heather
    Will ye go lassie, go?
    And we'll all go together
    To pluck wild mountain thyme
    All around the blooming heather
    Will ye go lassie, go?
    Oh, the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
    And the wild mountain thyme
    Grows around the blooming heather
    Will ye go lassie, go?
    And we'll all go together
    To pluck wild mountain thyme
    All around the blooming heather

RavenX - in ireland, we call it a scottish song. in scotland, they call it an irish song. confused? so are we!! but thre was always a lovely cultural flow between our two cultures so no wonder we think gallagher is an irish name! we think dympna is an irish colleen's name. and even dympna is not irish originally. probably from the celtic state of wales. in the classical irish lingo alphabet, there was no y, you see. anyway, enjoy the music from the six celtic states.

I've listened to several different renditions since.
Then I heard the High Kings. Completely different sound. Tight, clean harmonies, fairly modern, but still classic...
I was really hoping the High Kings had a version of this, and that it sounded as good as my brain imagined it would...
I am NOT disappointed. It's like food for my ears. Thank you Universe!

The Irish have a done great things for the world, one of the greatest generals of the British Empire who defeated Napoleon was an Irishman.
From the poor streets of America, Irish immigrants went to Whitehouse and apposed communism.
An Irishman was the father of chemistry, first man to set foot on American soil was Irish. The Irish have great literature, history and we also have one of the oldest languages in the world which is still used in parts of Ireland today.

+iancqz71 Do not confuse "folk" with "traditional". It's folk, but not trad. The poem on which it's based was written in the early 19th century (don't remember the date) but it was adapted and set to music by an Irishman and published in the fifties. (57, I think). As such, it's not counted as traditional because it's too recent, but it is a folk song, though.

It's a beautiful song but has fuck all to do with Ireland. It is a song about Scotland and its beautiful highlands. Love it by all means but don't associate it with Ireland.

Cousins, eh? Words by a Scot, music by an Irishman. It's a collaboration, init?
